Description
Mayor's Press Conference June 3, 2020
A
B
A
Kyle,
thank
you.
Thanks
for
the
weather
updates
and
thanks
for
giving
us
the
update
on
numbers
when
it
comes
to
kovat
19,
so
thank
you.
Kyle
all
right
I've
got
a
couple
important
things
to
bring
up
today
for
those
of
you
who
are
viewing
the
composting
program.
You
know
it's.
First
and
foremost
as
you're
aware,
the
city
recently
passed
the
new
trash
and
recycling
contract
with
Athens
Hawkin
recycling
center,
which
also
includes
the
curbside
composting
program,
which
will
begin
July
1
of
2020.
A
So
in
less
than
a
month
for
all
non-commercial
residents,
they
will
automatically
even
be
enrolled
in
the
program.
The
comp,
the
composting
program
residents
will
receive
a
composting
container
delivered
to
their
address,
and
the
composting
fee
will
appear
on
your
utility
bill
when
you
receive
it
in
August
the
there.
No
additional
steps
that
anybody
needs
to
take
as
a
resident
in
order
to
be
part
of
the
program.
If
you
do
not
want
to
be
enrolled
in
the
composting
program,
please
contact
the
city
at
compost.
A
That's
Co
MP

your
name,
your
address
and
as
to
whether
you
want
to
the
address
that
you
want
to
opt
out
from
and
also
your
account
number.
If
you
have
it,
you
may
also
be
contacted
by
the
city,
the
the
utility
billing
office
for
any
additional
information.
So
again,
if
you
want
to
opt
out,
please
contact
the
city
at

A
If
you
have
it
so
there
you
go,
we've
been
getting
a
lot
of
inquiries
about
that.
A
lot
of
people
calling
and
wanting
to
be
opted
out
of
that
program.
So
you
need
to
do
it
through
compost
at
CI,
Athens,

some
info,
or
at
least
updates

can
be
purchased
online
or
by
reservation
this
summer
programs,
the
summer
camp
will
start
the
week
of
July
6th,
and
it
will
run
for
five
weeks
and
again,
I
would
recommend
that
you
reach
out
to
the
community
center
after
the
city
community
center
for
more
details
on
the
summer
camp.
A
I
have
something
I
want
to
bring
up,
that
is
for
individuals,
citizens
who
would
like
to
volunteer
their
time
on
any
of
the
boards
and
commissions.
We
have
several
vacancies
among
our
20-plus
boards
and
commissions
in
the
city,
the
Historic
Preservation
Commission.
We
do
have
a
vacancy
within
that
commission.
You
can
certainly
contact
the
city
with
your
desire
to
be
considered
for
being
a
member
of
the
Historic
Preservation
Commission.
The
joint
police
advisory
council
also
has
a
vacancy
again.
You
can
contact
my
office
if
you
are
interested
in
serving
on
the
joint
place.
A
Advisory
Council
there
are
several
City
Council
appointments
to
some
of
the
boards
and
commissions
to
which
I
would
ask
that
you
contact
city
council
president
Kristin
Isley,
the
Affordable
Housing
Commission
currently
has
two
vacancies
for
someone
who
would
like
to
serve
on
the
Affordable
Housing
Commission,
the
community
relations
Commission's
has
one
vacancy
environment
sustainability.
Commission
has
one
vacancy
and
the
housing
Appeals
Board
has
a
vacancy.
A
So
again,
if
you're
interested
in
serving
on
any
of
those
boards
or
commissions,
please
feel
free
to
contact
either
my
office
or
you
can
contact
City
Council
for
council
appointed
boards
or
commissions
which
again
the
ones
that
I
just
listed
there:
the
affordable
housing,
Commission
the
environment
and
sustainability
Commission
and
the
housing
Appeals
Board.
You
can
contact
president
nicely
or
W
Walker
Clerk
of
Council.
A
Finally,
I
have
a
proclamation
that
I
would
like
to
read,
and
that
is
a
proclamation
declaring
Athens
Pride
Month
office
of
the
mayor
proclamation.
Whereas
the
city
of
Athens
is
committed
to
creating
a
community
that
is
inclusive
of
all
identities
and
intersections
of
identities.
And
whereas
the
city
of
Athens
has
been
and
continues
to
be,
a
proud
supporter
and
participant
in
the
Athens
pride
fest.
A
And
whereas
the
city
of
Athens
recognizes
the
need
to
continue
to
foster
a
community
in
which
all
people
feel
a
sense
of
belonging
and
can
express
themselves
without
fear,
shame
or
threat
of
violence.
And
whereas
the
city
of
Athens
is
committed
to
supporting
those
impacted
by
violence
and
to
collaboratively
work
throughout
the
city
to
end
anti
lgbtq+
attacks
of
any
kind.
And
whereas
the
city
of
Athens
celebrates
the
lives,
experiences
and
continuances
and
contributions
of
the
lgbtq+
individuals
to
the
vibrancy
of
our
community.
Not
only
during
the
month
of
June
but
throughout
the
year.
A
We
must
also
acknowledge
that
the
need
for
education,
awareness
and
open-minded
and
open-minded
remains
vital
to
end
discrimination
and
Prejudice.
Now,
therefore,
I
Steve
Patterson,
the
mayor
of
the
city
of
Athens
Ohio,
do
hereby
proclaim
June
2020
as
Athens
Pride
Month,
and
encourage
all
of
our
residents
to
respect
honor
and
celebrate
our
ongoing
effort
to
actualize
that
genuine
equality
truly
means
all
are
equal.
A
Thank
you
for
tuning
in
to
the
mayor's
weekly
press
conference,
I
appreciate
those
of
you
who
do
tuned
in
it's
great
to
always
be
able
to
update
you
on
things
going
on
around
the
city.
It's
always
wonderful,
being
able
to
read
proclamations
during
the
time
of
virtual
engagement
and
also
know
that
in
time
we
will
slowly
start
to
be
able
to
open
things
up
and
go
back
to
our
face
to
face
new
reality
as
we
roll
forward
thanks
for
tuning
in
and
please
tune
in
again
next
week
for
the
next
installment
of
the
mayor's
week.
