Description
Mayor's Weekly Update - October 7, 2020
A
Weekly
update
with
the
mayor,
kyle
johansen,
won't
be
joining
me
today.
He
has
had
a
conflict,
so
I
am
going
to
be
walking
you
through
the
weather.
It's
it's
it's
great
outside.
If
you
haven't
been
outside
70
degrees
is
our
high.
Today
our
low
is
going
to
be
chilly.
It's
going
to
be
down
to
44
degrees,
10
chance
of
rain
going
into
thursday.
Our
high
is
going
to
be
a
little
bit
lower.
It
will
be
69
degrees
with
a
low
of
43.
A
A
So
it
looks
like
it
might
be:
a
wet
one,
come
sunday
into
monday,
73
degrees,
a
high
of
a
high
of
73,
a
low
of
58
a.m,
showers,
tuesday,
a
high
of
75
and
a
low
of
54
degrees
with
partly
cloudy
skies
and
a
20
chance
of
rain
and
then
going
into
wednesday
of
next
week.
71
degrees
is
the
high.
The
low
is
48
with
partly
cloudy
again
and
20
chance
of
rain
covet
19
updates.
I
have
been
tracking
since
early
march
if
we
can
get
the
graphic
up
on
the
screen.
A
I
I
just
really
wanted
to
point
out
the
increase
that
we
saw
back
in
the
july
time
frame
to
where
we
had
a
high
number
of
active
cases,
which
is
the
blue
line.
Blue
line
indicating
active,
the
gray
bar
total
and
the
orange
or
gold
line
is
recovered
cases.
The
active
cases
peak
in
july
was
176
cases.
A
A
It's
been
a
slower
slope,
but
a
rise.
All
the
same.
So
don't
hear
me
as
saying
that
there's
a
difference
in
terms
of
cases
ruth
duding
at
the
health
department,
just
posted
the
most
recent
state
and
county
updates
for
athens,
county
statewide,
we've
got
163,
say:
162,
seven
176.
A
Seventy
three
two
thousand
cases
plus
almost
173
000
cases
with
4970
deaths
in
the
state
of
ohio
for
athens,
county
we're
at
887,
confirmed
or
probable
cases.
Two
deaths
are
related
to
covet
19.
The
current
active
cases,
as
I
may
have
mentioned,
is
176,
so
we're
up
in
active
cases
by
two
from
yesterday,
so
we're
on
were
that's
the
same
level
as
we
experienced
at
the
peak
in
july
and
709
recovered
cases.
A
So
that
is
the
the
update
and
again
I
I
again
can't
stress
this
enough.
You
know
gotta
wear
a
mask
when
you're
out
in
public,
you
need
to
be
wearing
a
mouse
when
you're
in
business
is
open
to
the
public.
A
You
know
it's
the
one
thing
that
we
can
certainly
do
to
protect
each
other
and
reduce
the
spread,
as
well
as
frequent
hand,
washing
social
distancing
and
just
being
mindful
of
of
maintaining
all
of
those
from
face
masking
to
social
distancing
to
hand
washing
stimson
avenue
columbia.
Gas
is
still
working
in
the
the
stimson
avenue
corridor.
A
Today
they
are
working
by
and
large
in
front
of
hawking
valley
bank
on
the
parking
lot
that'll
be
through
tomorrow
october.
8Th
campbell
street
stimpson
avenue
intersection
is
expected
to
be
closed.
Friday
october,
9th,
from
8am
to
elliott
street
from
cornwall
street
to
stimson
avenue
is
expected
to
be
closed
to
through
traffic,
also
on
friday,
between
8
a.m
and
5
p.m.
Again,
for
the
columbia
gas
project,
if
you've
got
any
questions,
you
can
always
feel
free
to
call
engineering
and
public
works
at
593-6737
or
7636,
or
you
can
contact
columbia,
gas
at.
A
614-309-7576
to
get
updates
on
that
particular
project,
hydrant
flushing.
That
will
continue
on
its
merry
way
here
in
the
city
of
athens,
there
will
be
hydrant
flushing
on
longview
heights
and
mulligan
road,
and
that
will
be
going
on
this
week,
starting
tomorrow.
8
a.m,
to
4
p.m
and,
as
usual,
you
might
experience
some
discoloration
in
your
water
but
know
that
that
is
largely
due
to
just
sediment
being
disturbed
within
the
water
lines.
A
A
A
A
You
know
make
sure
you
turn
your
porch
light
off
porch
lights
on,
for
those
who
are
gonna,
be
giving
out
candy.
So
just
do
so
responsibly,
please,
arts,
parks
and
recreation.
I've
mentioned
this
in
the
past
and
they
are
introducing
meditation
time
at
the
athens
community
center.
The
times
are
mondays
from
6
to
7
pm
tuesdays
from
9
00
to
10
a.m;
wednesdays,
6,
to
7
p.m,
thursdays
9
to
10
a.m,
fridays
from
2
to
3
p.m,
and
also
on
saturdays
from
11
a.m,
to
12
p.m.
A
A
Indicating
that
the
meditation
time
is
over,
it's
limited
to
10
people
each
hour
and
you
need
to
reserve
in
advance.
So
you
need
to
call
the
community
center
at
592-3325
to
reserve
time
for
the
meditation
hour.
The
other
thing
at
arts,
parks
and
recreation
is
they've.
Got
these
spooky
membership
deals
available
through
october
31st.
A
To
take
advantage
you
need
to.
You
can
either
select
the
trick
package,
which
includes
a
month's
membership
for
25
or
the
treat
package
which
includes
three
months:
membership
for
60
dollars
and
again
encouraging
you
to
call
the
community
center
at
592-3325
or
come
down
to
the
community
center
to
renew
a
membership.
A
Do
it
today,
other
things
all
things
committees
now.
This
is
always
something
that
we
post
on
the
city's
website
of
upcoming
meetings.
All
meetings
are
are
via
zoom.
I
know
that
scott
and
ryan
at
the
government
channel
have
been
working
feverishly
on
putting
up
all
kinds
of
zoom
meetings.
The
ones
that
are
coming
up
is
the
athens
city
sustainability.
Commission
will
meet
today
from
six
to
seven
pm.
A
A
Again,
you
can
find
that
on
the
city's
website
and
then
after
the
city
council,
as
is
usual,
the
first
through
the
fourth
mondays
of
every
month,
save
their
recess
time,
and
things
can
certainly
we'll
certainly
see
a
change
in
the
schedule
as
we
move
into
the
latter
part
of
december,
but
their
next
meeting
will
be
october
12th
at
7
p.m.
A
Again
as
usual,
another
meeting
is
the
athens
county,
regional
planning,
commission
that
is
tomorrow
morning,
that
is
from
8
a.m,
to
roughly
9
to
9
30
a.m.
Some
of
the
agenda
items
for
the
athens
county.
Regional
planning
commission
are
the
u.s
50
corridor,
expansion,
project,
electric
aggregation,
the
athens
county,
land
bank,
age
friendly
initiative,
and
we
always
tend
to
talk
about
the
covet
19
pandemic
and
things
going
on
throughout
our
county
as
they
pertain
to
the
covenant
19
pandemic.
A
Now,
therefore,
I
steve
patterson,
the
mayor
of
the
city
of
athens,
ohio,
do
hereby
proclaim
the
week
of
october
4th
through
the
10th
2020
as
ohio
lions
centennial
week
of
service
in
honor
of
lions,
ohio
lion's
100th
year
celebration
of
serving
others
in
need,
100
years
here
in
the
state
of
ohio-
that's
all
I
have
for
today,
and
so
I
really
appreciate
those
of
you
who
have
tuned
in
for
today's
weekly
update
and
hopefully
you'll
tune
in
again
next
week
for
the
next
installment
and-
and
you
know-
maybe
maybe
we
can-
I
can
convince
the
governors
of
the
government
channel
with
ryan
to
maybe
go
down
to
the
richland
avenue,
pedestrian
passageway
and
maybe
we'll
do
a
live
remote
down
there.
A
Taking
a
look
at
the
progress,
that's
been
made,
weather
dependent,
of
course,
but
they're
getting
close.
That
project
will
hopefully
wrap
up
on
october
17th,
but
maybe
we'll
go
remote
next
week.
That's
again,
all
I
have
for
today.
So
hopefully,
you'll
join
us
next
week
for
the
next
weekly
update.
