Mayor's Weekly Update August 19, 2020
A
Gorgeous
outside
temperature,
wise,
it's
sunny,
it's
great
and
kyle,
give
us
the
seven
day
outlook
and
hopefully
you're
going
to
tell
us
it's
going
to
be
like
this
for
the
next
seven
days.
B
Well,
it's
going
gonna
dry,
so
today
it's
gonna
be
sunny
skies,
so
the
high
of
81.
tonight
clear
skies
below
53
degrees
tomorrow,
mostly
sunny.
I
have
85
tomorrow
night,
mostly
cloudy
low
62
friday,
cloudy
skies
stray
shower
or
storm
is
possible.
I
have
86
friday
night
storms,
late
low
65
chance
of
rain.
Fifty
percent
saturday
scattered
storms
highs
81,
chance
of
rain
60
percent
saturday
night
scattered
storms,
low
64.,
chance
of
rain
40
sunday,
scattered
storms,
high
82,
chance
of
rain
60
percent
sunday
night,
partly
cloudy
low
64.
A
So
we're
not
gonna
get
blistering
hot
weather,
like
we've
had
already
this
summer,
just
seems
pretty
pretty
steady
throughout
the
remaining
seven
days
or
a
seven
day,
outlook
yep,
so
kyle
as
we
usually
do.
Do
you
want
to
walk
us
through
what
the
numbers
are
looking
like
when
it
comes
to
covet
19,
not
only
here
but
around
the
globe.
B
So
today
you
know
there
have
been
955
new
cases
of
chronovirus,
which
brings
a
total
of
110
000
cases.
999
almost
4500
deaths,
united
states
nationwide.
There
are
now
5.6
million
cases,
172
000
deaths
in
global.
There
are
now
over
22
million
two
hundred
thousand
cases
and
almost
nine
hundred
thousand
deaths
wow.
A
Well,
that's
that's
encouraging!
That's
certainly
encouraging.
I
know
that
here
in
athens
we
held
steady.
You
know
at
least
the
past
two
days
where
we
had
didn't
see
any
new
cases
and
that's
not
to
say
that
things
won't
change
as
we
move
forward
we're
hoping
we
can
stay.
A
You
know
to
where
we
at
least
plateau
for
a
while,
but
and
there's
a
multitude
of
reasons
why
that
is
the
case.
You
know,
I
think,
first
and
foremost,
you
know
people
wearing
masks,
absolutely
helps
keep
things
down.
A
A
I
have
a
few
items
to
share.
I
think,
first
and
foremost,
we
feel
that
a
number
of
calls
from
individuals
wanting
to
know
if
a
letter
that
they
had
received
that
has
a
portland
oregon
return
address
on
it.
If
it
is
legitimate,
it
has
to
do
with
a
notice
of
security
incident
here
in
the
city
of
athens,
and
it
is
legit.
A
You
know
if
you
did
not
receive
a
letter,
then
obviously
there's
no
need
to
do
anything
about
it.
If
you
did
receive
one
of
the
letters
you
know
please
review
and
follow
all
the
instructions
in
that
letter
to
enter
enroll
in
a
no-cost
online
credit
monitoring
service
for
one
year.
If
you
feel
it
is
necessary
to
protect
your
information,
the
letter
has
an
activation
code
for
people
to
sign
up
again.
If
you
choose
to,
and
but
one
more
time
I
mean
it
is
the
letters
that
everyone
received.
A
A
But
it
is
legitimate
if
you
have
any
further
questions
about
that,
you
can
certainly
feel
free
to
call
the
deputy
service
safety
director
and
the
director
can
be
reached
at
athens
area
code.
A
We
are
continuing
on
with
our
fire
hydrant
flushing,
which
is
something
that
we
do
every
summer
around
this
time,
it'll
be
going
on
in
the
area
of
west
union
street
hospital
drive
as
well
as
columbus
road,
and
that
will
be
august
18th
through
the
20th
and
it's
typically
between
the
hours
of
eight
and
four
pm.
Eight
a.m
to
four
p.m.
A
A
It's
an
introductory
introductory
program
for
skills,
development
and
youth
soccer
parents
are
expected
to
actively
participate
with
their
kids.
Kids
will
learn
simple
sucker
skills
such
as
kicking,
dribbling,
running
and
agility,
throwing,
etc.
No
games
are
going
to
be
played
in
this
program,
yet
rather
focus
on
developing
skills
for
the
kids.
A
A
virtual
parent
meeting
for
those
who
are
registered
or
have
signed
up
will
take
place
thursday
september
10th
at
5
30
p.m.
Some
things
to
note
no
spectators
or
extra
children
are
allowed.
During
each
section
session,
adults
will
wear
masks
the
whole
time
the
kids
will
wear,
masks
wearing
masks
will
be
at
the
description
of
their
parents
and
at
least
one
parent
is
expected
to
participate
with
the
child
so
know
that
that
is
is
going
to
be
happening.
A
A
The
last
thing
I
want
to
share
is
that
hapcap,
the
hawking
athens
perry
community
action
has
released
its
press
release
in
regards
to
the
emergency
relief
grant
program
for
city
of
athens
residents.
This
is
the
grant
program
that
came
through
city
council
in
which
hapcap
was
was
granted.
Twenty-Five
thousand
dollars
to
create
this
program
on
behalf
of
the
citizens
of
athens.
The
application
will
begin
on
august
19th
for
the
emergency
room
relief
grant
program.
A
Individuals
struggling
to
pay
their
rent
or
mortgage
due
to
a
loss
of
employment
or
other
covet
19
related
impacts
in
our
residence
of
the
city
of
athens,
provide
documentation
of
job
loss,
reduced
hours,
layoff
or
hardship
due
to
covet
19
and
have
documented
past
due
rent
or
mortgage
payments.
So
this
is
a
good
program
to
have
offered
using
the
cares
act,
relief
funds
that
the
city
of
athens
received.
So
again.
This
is
not
using
taxpayer
dollars
or
anything
like
that.
It
is
using.
The
cares
act.
A
We
are
likely
to
explore
a
couple
other
grants
or
grant
mechanisms
that
we
want
to
get
out
as
well
to
help
citizens
in
other
ways,
possibly
exploring
something
along
the
lines
of
utility
city
utilities,
so
more
to
follow
on
that
when
it
comes
to
the
karazak
copen
relief
fund-
that's
all
I
have
for
today.
So
thanks
for
tuning
in
on
the
weekly
update
with
the
mayor
and
hopefully
you'll
tune
in
again
next
week
for
more
updates
on
happenings
around
the
city.
Take.
