Mayor's Weekly Update July 9, 2020 (Discussing Facial Coverings in Public Places)
A
A
We
worked
rather
hard
all
week,
long
to
take
basically
the
language
of
the
Dayton
ordinance
and
working
with
what
we
could
to
create
an
ordinance,
or
at
least
the
language,
for
a
potential
ordinance
to
where
we
could
implement,
hopefully,
a
face
covering
ordinance
here
in
the
city
of
Athens.
We
have
pretty
much
put
together
a
draft
after
many
hours
of
looking
and
making
sure
that
we
are
doing
the
best
thing
possible.
A
A
Nothing
has
been
set
at
this
point
in
time,
but
I
am
encouraged
in
encouraging
council
to
take
it
back
up
for
first
reading
Monday
evening,
so
that
we
can
get
this
implemented
as
quickly
as
possible.
The
details
I
can
share
at
this
point
in
time
is
that
the
ordinance
would
be
a
again
it'll,
be
a
face
covering
ordinance
speaking
specifically
to
the
covering
of
both
nose,
nose
and
mouth.
That
would
be
mandatory
for
people
being
in
all
outdoor
public
spaces,
as
well
as
people
entering
into
businesses
that
are
open
to
the
public.
A
It
will
require
a
real
team
effort
to
get
this
through.
It'll
also
require
all
of
us
working
very
hard
together
to
make
sure
that
we
are
encouraging
everyone
to
continue
to
wear
masks.
But
again,
this
will
be
a
mandate
if
again
successful
in
getting
council
to
adopt
this,
whether
you're
tracking
this
or
not.
As
of
this
week,
we
have
gone
from
63
cases
to
79
cases,
and
today
Thursday
we
are
up
to
90
cases
with
56
active
cases
and
I
believe
33
recovered
cases.
A
So
it
has
really
never
been
more
important
than
right
now
to
have
an
ordinance
such
as
this
go
before
Council
for
councils
final
approval,
so
again
tomorrow
evening,
anyone
can
tune
in
it
will
be
live
streamed
on
the
city's
website.
It
will
also
be
live
streamed
on
the
city's
Facebook
and
also
on
cable
for
anyone
who
wishes
to
watch
the
council
proceedings
as
this
moves
forward
and
again,
I
can't
stress
the
importance
of
this
as
well
as
I
can't
stress
the
importance
of
everybody.
A
Continuing
to
you
know
social
distance
when
you're
outside
and
near
other
people,
distance
yourself
minimum
of
six
feet
as
well
as
wearing
a
face
mask
when
you're
out
and
also,
if
you're,
not
feeling.
Well,
you
know,
the
thing
that
you
need
to
do
is,
if
you
aren't
feeling
well
or
think
that
you
may
have
been
exposed,
is
to
contact
your
family
physician
and
they
at
that
point
in
time.
A
Your
family
physician
will
go
through
and
ask
diagnostic
questions
of
you
looking
asking
about
symptoms,
and
then
your
physician,
if
deemed
necessary,
will
refer
you
to
the
testing
site
for
having
you
effectively
tested
for
koban
19
I'm,
encouraging
people
because
they
think
they
may
have
covered
19,
but
don't
have
any
symptoms
or
you're
nervous
about
possibly
being
exposed
to
not
go
down
to
the
emergency
room.
They
have
seen
a
rather
large
increase
and
people
coming
down
to
the
emergency
room
again.
A
The
most
important
thing
to
do
is,
if
you
feel
it,
you
may
have
covered
19
just
to
contact
your
family
physician
and
have
your
physician
go
through
the
criteria
that
they're
looking
for
to
identify
whether
or
not
someone
needs
to
be
tested
and
will
refer
you
to
the
testing
site
for
bonus,
Hospital
and
Ohio
Health.
That
said
again,
I
encourage
everyone
to
continue
to.
Please
remain
safe
and
do
the
right
thing
by
protecting
yourself
as
well
as
protecting
others.
A
This
face,
covering
ordinance
is
just
that
it's
everyone
doing
their
responsible
duties
to
protect
each
other,
so
that
can
mitigate
the
spread
of
Kovac
19
throughout
the
city
of
Athens.
Thank
you
for
tuning
in
and
again
I
really
encourage
you
to
tune
in
tomorrow
night
at
5
p.m.
again.
You
can
watch
it
on
the
government
Channel
via
cable.
You
can
certainly
watch
it
on
the
city's
website
or
you
can
watch
it
on
the
Facebook
streaming
through
the
city's
Facebook
account.
Thank
you
for
watching
tonight,
and
hopefully
you'll
tune
in
tomorrow.
Stay
safe.
