Description
Mayor's Press Conference - April 5, 2023
A
Wednesday
welcome
to
the
weekly
update
with
Kyle
J
Hansen,
the
mayor
as
Kyle
and
I
were
just
discussing
it's
almost
hot
outside,
but
it
certainly
is
Pleasant.
Although
I
wish
it
were
less
cloudy,
but
it
is
nice
out
there
Kyle.
What
is
the
seven-day
forecast
look
like
for
us
here
in
Athens
Ohio,
so.
B
Today
we
got
a
mix
of
clouds
and
sun
a
stray
sour
or
thunderstorm
as
possible,
high
of
87
degrees.
So
now
wake
up
thunderstorms
this
evening,
followed
by
occasional
showers
overnight,
a
few
storms
may
be
severe.
Storms
may
be
capable
of
it
as
a
golf:
ball-sized
hail,
75
mile,
an
hour
ones
or
a
cup
of
isolated
tornadoes
or
two
tomorrow
we
got
Morning
Rain,
High,
56,
well,
38
Friday.
We
got
mostly
cloudy
skies,
High
61,
low
34.
B
B
and
sports.
The
sovel
team
won
against
Ohio
State
last
night
from
1-0,
and
the
softball
team
is
in
first
place
in
the
Mac.
So
far,
right
now
in
the
professional
team
loss
against
Morehead
State
last
night
15-2,
but
the
baseball
team
beat
against
Eastern
Michigan
this
past
weekend
as
well.
We'd
be
against
Eastern
Michigan
this
past
week
and
next
week,
there's
a
lot
of
Home
OU
Flex
events.
Next
week
we
got
baseball
softball,
the
cherry
blossom,
Invitational
spring
game.
That's
everything.
A
B
B
Saturday
will
be
my
fourth
year
that
we're
gonna
quite
out
now
I'm
talking
about
I,
get
to
go
back
next
Tuesday
for
the
first
time
in
two
months,
and
then
shortly
after
all,
oh
yeah,
Flex,
home
stuff
are
back,
are
done.
Gosh
copperheads
are
like
less
than
two
months
away
and
I
heard
on
another
like
five
home
firework
nights
and
there's
a
mascot
dash
at
the
Android
Oso
as
well.
B
A
Right
very
good,
some
things
happening
around
the
city.
We've
talked
about
this
in
the
past,
the
spring
cleanup
and
the
Athens
Hawking
Solid
Waste
districts
recycling
day
so
April
17th
through
the
21st
here
in
Athens
people
can
place
out
an
unlimited
number
of
bags
at
your
curb
during
your
day
in
which
your
refuse
and
recycling
is
picked
up.
So
keep
that
in
mind.
If
you've
got
something
that
is
oversized,
there
will
be
a
special
charge,
special
Hall
charge,
which
is
15.75
per
cubic
yard.
A
So
keep
that
in
mind,
building
materials
tires
and
liquids
will
not
be
allowed
at
the
curbside.
They
won't
be
picked
up.
So
that's
one
thing.
The
other
thing
is
we
do
this
every
spring
and
that
is
putting
a
dumpster
down
at
the
service
garage
which
is
located
at
387
West
State
Street,
and
we
just
ask
that
anything.
You
drag
down
there
to
get
rid
of
that.
You
bring
a
valid
driver's
license,
as
well
as
your
local
utility
bill,
and
you
will
be
able
to
throw
whatever
you
want
to
into
it.
A
Let's
see
the
Saturday
April
22nd
9
A.M
to
1
p.m,
that
is
the
Hawking
recycling
or
Hawking
Athens
Hawking
County
spring
recycling
day.
There.
You
see
all
the
info
that
you
ever
wanted
to
see
in
regards
to
what
you
can
drop
off
and
what
you
can't.
There
is
fees
for
certain
things.
You
may
please
make
note
of
that
flat
screen:
TVs
tube
TVs
fluorescent
tubes,
compact
bulbs
as
well
as
tires.
A
You
know,
if
they're
on
rims
four
bucks,
if
they're
not
on
rims,
it's
50
cents
per
tire,
not
to
exceed
10
Tires
Blaze,
so
take
advantage
of
that
as
we
are
all
cleaning
out
our
well
I
shouldn't
say
all
well.
Some
of
us
are
cleaning
out
things
that
just
get
placed
somewhere
in
your
garage
or
your
basement
or
wherever
and
is
spring
is
here
we
sit
there
and
go.
You
know
what
I
got
to
make
room
for
other
stuff.
A
Last
night
was
the
Athens
City
boards
commissions
and
councils
meeting.
All
City
councils,
boards
and
and
commissions
got
together,
or
at
least
representation
from
most
of
them,
there's
over
20
different
boards
commissions
and
and
councils.
A
So
it's
a
great
turnout.
We
had
40
plus
people
that
were
there,
it
was
at
the
community
center
and
I
think
it
was
a
real,
fruitful
conversation
to
be
had,
but
it
was
really
just
giving
recognition
and
certainly
thanking
those
who
volunteer
to
serve
on
our
various
boards
councils
and
commissions
for
doing
that.
A
You
know
often
thankless
job
of
of
making
our
city
a
better
place,
they're
kind
of
the
unsung
heroes
when
it
comes
to
the
commission
on
disability,
sustainable
environment,
sustainability,
commission,
the
affordable
housing
commission,
the
shade
tree
commission,
you
know
I
can
go
on
and
on
and
on
with
all
the
different
boards
and
commissions
the
Athens
Municipal
Arts
Commission,
but
they
do
amazing
work
and
it
was
a
big
event
to
thank
them
for
their
service
and
we'll
continue
to
have
these
events
and
hopefully
grow
them
in
the
future
to
where
we
have
even
more
engagement
upcoming
meetings.
A
We
have
several
the
and
the
city's
sustainability
commission
is
going
to
be
meeting
today
here.
In
council
chambers,
from
6
to
7
pm,
Athens,
City
Council,
of
course,
we'll
be
meeting
on
Monday
April
10th
here
in
council
chambers,
7
p.m,
and
the
Athens
Board
of
zoning
appeals
will
be
meeting
here
in
council
chambers
at
7
pm
on
Tuesday,
April
11th,
so
keep
those
in
mind
and,
as
Kyle
indicated,
there's
the
Earth
Day
Parade.
There
is
take
back
the
night
which
is
tomorrow
evening
on
OU
campus.
A
There
is
also
the
international
Street
Fest
and
the
parade
of
flags
which
will
start
at
Baker,
Center,
I,
believe
at
10
p.m
or
10
a.m,
not
a
p.m.
10
a.m.
10
in
the
morning
the
parade
will
kick
off
and
be
walking
up
in
a
Northerly
Direction
on
Court
Street
and
then
it'll
turn
onto
West
Union
Street,
which
is
where
all
the
festivities
will
take
place
so
make
sure
you
come
up
for
that.
I
will
be
speaking
at
that
event.
A
I
will
also
be
walking
with
the
for
the
the
flags
during
that
event,
something
that
I
really
enjoy
every
single
year:
minus
covid,
but
that's
behind
us.
So
thanks
for
tuning
in
Kyle.
Thank
you
as
usual.
Congratulations
on
your
four-year
anniversary
at
Quito,
and
your
three
and
a
half
year
anniversary
of
sitting
here
with
me
doing
our
weekly
updates.
So
please
join
Kyle,
Johansen
and
myself
next
week.
