Description
Mayor's Press Conference - May 3, 2023
A
B
Good
afternoon
and
welcome
to
the
weekly
update
with
Kyle
Johansen
and
the
mayor
Kyle,
we
I
don't
know
if
we
dodged
a
bullet
this
morning
or
not.
You
know,
I
think
people
are
thinking.
Okay,
well,
maybe
we'll
get
a
dusting
of
snow.
I
know
that
Terry
Smith
he
had
pushed
out
something
from
1997
to
where
I
think
it
was
near
the
end
of
April.
They
ended
up
getting
a
foot
of
snow
here
in
Athens
which
again
and
the
reality
is
That's
Not
Unusual,
but
no
snow.
B
C
Next
Tuesday
we
got
scarish
storms,
Hive,
82,
low
58,
and
next
Wednesday.
We
got
scared
of
storms
high
of
78
53.
Sports.
We
got
big
weekend
coming
up
so
tomorrow
on
Friday.
It's
also
the
fan
PSU
night
for
baseball.
There's
a
dollar
hogdo
nights
they're,
also
getting
out
free
t-shirts
for
the
first
150
fans.
C
It's
a
double
header
at
one
baseball
versus
Ball
State
at
six
and
also
they'll,
be
fridge,
beach,
balls
and
foam
graduation
caps
for
our
support
as
fast
and
then
Sunday
is
also
the
last
home
game
for
supper
and
baseball
is
also
a
senior
day
for
both
softball
and
baseball
park
in
the
park
day.
Sunday
September
May
7th
at
noon
for
softball
against
Buffalo,
in
baseball
at
one
against
Ball
State
Advanced
can
donate
drike
or
canned
dog
food
at
the
main
entrance
to
the
free
and
receive
up
to
four
free
tickets.
C
So
the
game
also
freak
dog
gift
bag
for
the
first
50
fans
and
also
not
only
have
to
have
gosh
cover
Seasons
roughly
a
month
away
and
football
starts
about
three
and
a
half
miles
away.
A
couple
starts
before
class
starts
so
California.
First,
they
go
to
California
in
August,
okay,
really
San
Diego.
There.
B
That
right,
yeah,
okay,
did
not
know
that.
So
the
other
thing
is
it's
graduation.
B
B
C
B
They
just
they
just
sling
them
through
here,
here's
your
diploma,
so
it's
huge
and
then
h-comp
the
Heritage
College
of
osteopathic
medicine
has
their
commencement
the
weekend
after
so
Saturday
morning
and
I
will
be
attending
a
dinner
Friday
evening
for
the
Heritage
College
of
osteopathic
medicines,
big
event
recognizing
all
the
future
Do's
out
there,
which
will
go
on
to
residencies
and
all
kinds
of
additional
training
and
whatever
their
specialty
areas
are
going
to
be.
So
it's
big
time
here
in
Athens
just
worth
mentioning
the
traffic.
B
Thank
you,
traffic,
not
only
traffic,
but
also
just
all
the
U-Haul
trailers
that
we're
going
to
be
seeing
here
in
the
city
of
Athens.
In
particular
this
weekend
with
everyone
moving
out
and
that's
Everybody.
By
and
large
I
shouldn't
say
everybody.
There
are
a
number
of
students
who
stick
around
during
the
summer,
but
by
and
large
you're
going
to
see
a
large
Exodus
of
individuals,
a
lot
of
parents.
B
Here
in
town
we
will
have
the
street
sweeper
out
sweeping
up
and
down
Court
Street
and
the
laterals
coming
into
Court
Street
on
Friday,
Saturday
and
Sunday
mornings.
We
may
even
come
back
around
on
Monday
morning
and
speaking
of
street
sweeping
I
mentioned
this
at
Council
the
other
night.
This
is
pretty
cool.
B
The
street
department
has
purchased
a
good
size,
sidewalk
street
sweeping
street
sweeper,
not
enough
for
lack
of
a
better
way
to
frame
it,
and
it
will
be
cruising
up
and
down
Court
streets,
vacuuming
sweeping
the
sidewalks
in
the
Uptown
area,
which
is
amazing,
so
just
note
that
that
will
be
in
addition
to
our
arsenal
of
ways
in
which
we
try
to
continue
to
improve
the
appearance
of
the
city
and
the
Uptown
area.
B
Excuse
me,
Roosevelt
water,
outage,
Roosevelt,
Drive
that
this
just
came
in
so
the
after
they
were
going
to
be
completing
the
work
on
Thursday
May
4th.
It
may
result
in
low
water
pressure
up
there
on
Roosevelt.
The
work
will
be
completed
by
or
it
will
be
underway
from
four
a
or
8
A.M,
not
4
a.m.
That'd
be
terrible,
8
A.M
to
4
P.M
and
a
boil
order
will
be
issued
once
the
work
is
completed.
B
B
We
had
a
groundbreaking
for
the
cacosing
solar,
formerly
third
sun,
solar,
there's,
an
image
of
the
the
groundbreaking
and
know
that
large
pile
of
dirt
isn't
something
that
we
did.
That's
something
kosing
did,
but
you
know
the
visual
looks
good
makes
it
look
like
I
work,
even
harder
for
City,
Source
or
city
resources
here
in
the
city
anyway,
this
is
going
to
be
a
substantial
solar
array,
it'll
be
in
several
phases,
but
the
phases
are
kind
of
going
on
concurrently.
B
The
other
thing
I
want
to
share
I
shared
this
at
City
Council
on
Monday
night
and
is
our
new
Billing
System
and
payment
system.
More
importantly,
simple
to
use
online
software,
that's
out,
there
is
scan
the
QR
code
and
you
can
pay
online
and
take
care
of
all
your
business.
It
accepts
you
know:
MasterCard
Visa,
Discovery,
PayPal
venmo,
whatever
your
choice
of
paying
your
bills
accepts
them
all.
So
please
take
advantage
of
this.
B
This
is
a
great
new
feature
down
at
Utility
Billing,
which
gives
you
much
more
flexibility
with
how
you
go
about
paying
your
City
utility
bill.
As
summertime
approaches,
we've
got
a
series
of
outdoor
summer
concerts,
which
is
always
wonderful.
There.
You
see
the
dates:
May,
18th,
June,
15th
and
July
20th,
and
then
the
closeout
will
be
on
the
17th
of
August
Scott.
Help
me
out:
when
is
the
Athens
Community
Arts
and
Music
Fest.
It's
kind
of
in
that
August
time
frame,
if
I'm
not
mistaken,.
B
B
B
We
kind
of
roamed
it
around
a
little
bit
last
year
and
I
think
they're
going
to
try
to
consolidate
it
more
this
year,
youth
baseball
there
you
have
the
flyer
35
dollar
fee
per
child
May
1st
through
June
3rd,
is
the
registration,
and
there
you
see
the
dates.
The
practices
June
12th
through
the
22nd
games
are
going
to
be
June
26th
through
August
1st.
So
a
lot
of
time
to
play
go
down
to
the
community
center.
You
can
sign
up
in
person
or
you
can
call
in
and
get
your
child
signed
up
and
there.
B
You
can
also
see
the
online
way
of
finding
out
more
about
this
and
getting
your
children
involved
in
t-ball
and
coach
pitch.
Those
are
the
two
t-ball
being
five
and
six
year
olds
coach
pitch
seven
through
nine-year-olds
and
there
you
see
the
dates
and
times
in
which
to
play.
Let's
see
the
last
thing
I
have,
if
I'm
not
mistaken,
is
our
upcoming
meetings.
We
have
several
of
them.
B
The
Athens
sustainability
commission
is
meeting
today
and
that
will
be
in
the
first
floor
conference
room
in
what
we're
renaming
the
Edward
and
Martha
Berry
conference
room
in
the
city
building,
and
that
is
from
6
to
7
PM
Planning
Commission
will
be
meeting
tomorrow
here
in
council
chambers,
and
that
is
from
noon
until
we're
finished.
Typically
it's
around
one,
but
sometimes
we
go
a
little
bit
longer.
We
could
go
until
1
30.,
so
that's
that
time
frame
preservation
board.
Its
regular
meeting
is
going
to
be
May
8th.
B
That
will
be
in
the
the
Edward
and
Martha
Berry
conference
room
here
in
the
city
building
the
former
front
conference
room
and
that
is
5
30
to
6,
30
pm
and
Athens
Council,
always
here
in
Kelsey
Chambers.
It
will
be
on
May,
8th,
7
PM.
I
should
note
that
there
are
five
Mondays
in
the
month
of
May,
and
so,
as
is
typical,
we
don't
have
unless
we
have
to
have
a
special
session.
B
We
don't
have
a
council
meeting
on
that
fifth
Monday
shade
tree
commission
is
going
to
going
to
be
meeting
here
in
council
chambers
and
that
will
be
on
Tuesday
May
9th.
So
there
you
have
the
full
week's
worth
of
boards
and
commissions
and
city
council,
so
I
want
to
can
give
a
big
congratulations
to
the
graduating
class.
The
class
of
2023
I'm
graduating,
like
I,
said
this
weekend.
Both
graduate
and
undergraduate
students
know
this.
That
Athens
is
always
your
home
and
you
will
always
be
a
part
of
bobcat
Nation.
B
B
As
your
decree
potentially
implicates
I
think
you
will
be
doing
doing
and
engaging
and
moving
forward
thanks,
Scott
and
Ryan,
as
always
for
doing
an
outstanding
job
of
helping
the
city
government
get
the
word
out
to
our
community
through
Facebook,
live
through
Twitter
through
Facebook,
through
YouTube,
through
everything
and
obviously
through
Channel
1024
on
the
government
channel
here.
So
thank
you
guys.
You
do
a
great
job
thanks
for
joining
Kyle
and
I.
Please
join
us
again
next
Wednesday
for
the
next.
