Description
Mayor's Press Conference - February 22, 2022
A
Thank
you
good
afternoon
and
welcome
once
again
to
the
weekly
update
with
Kyle
Johansen
and
the
mayor.
You
know
Kyle
one
of
these
days.
We
have
to
get
Scott
and
Ryan
to
do
a
green
screen
to
where
we
can
kind
of
up
our
game.
What
do
you
think
Scott?
You
know
we
can't
do
anything
and
that
way:
Kyle
you're,
actually
there
and
you're,
showing
the.
B
A
Coming
in
and
the
radar
and
how
Ryan's
doing
down
on
the
Bahamas,
you
know
all
that
kind
of
stuff,
Kyle
I
know
it's
crazy.
Today.
Do
we
have
more
of
this
in
store
of
this
heat
wave
that
we
have
going
through?
We
do
yeah.
B
A
B
Please
so
today
we
got
melee
quiet,
guys,
high
of
71.
So
now
we
got
overcast
with
showers
at
times
12
58.
Tomorrow
we
got
mostly
sunny
skies
high
of
77
well
for
83
Friday.
We
got
mostly
quality
they're,
probably
close,
guys
High,
47,
well,
27.
narrative,
again,
mostly
quiet,
Skies,
High,
52,
12,
32.
Sunday.
We
got
probably
close
guys
High,
57,
well,
38
Monday.
We
got
rainy
conditions,
high
of
64.
low
40,
chance
of
rain
80
percent
Tuesday.
We
got
mostly
signing
schedule,
which
is
the
last
day
of
the
month
already.
B
and
then
next
Wednesday
major
gospel
spring,
which
is
going
to
be
probably
call
these
guys,
High
52
low
of
33
degrees,
we're
trying
to
believe
March
is
next
month,
and
then
we
got
daylight
savings
time
about
two
weeks
away,
which
this
should
be
our
last
time,
which
means
our
winter
Sunrise
will
be
an
hour
away
like
at
nine
o'clock
in
the
morning,
instead
of
eight
o'clock
yeah
or
the
way
that
usually
well
done.
Basketball
now
covers,
we
don't
have
time
with
Kobe
anymore.
B
It's
all
over
Now,
Sports
immense
has
got
the
question
spot
for
the
Mac
tournament
in
Cleveland
March
9
41,
because
they
won
against
Northern
Illinois
last
night
78
to
67,
which
is
good,
and
we
got
one
more
home
men's
game.
Next,
Friday
night
tip
up
is
at
eight
o'clock
on
CBS,
Sports,
Network
and
then
two
more
women's
games.
Next
Wednesday
and
next
Saturday
and
basketball
to
die
at
home
and
baseball
starts
at
home
about
two
weeks
from
now
crazy.
A
You
know
I
I
agree
with
you.
It
was
crazy.
It's
like
next
week
is
March
I
know
I
just
must
flying
by
wow.
You
got
to
stop
making
the
year
go
so
fast.
All
right.
We
don't
have
a
whole
lot
today.
I
do
want
to
speak
briefly
to
our
Wellhead
protection
area
and
the
city's
drinking
water.
I
know,
there's
been
a
lot
of
concern
out
there
with
the
things
that
have
happened,
the
train
derailment
up
in
East,
Palestine
Ohio
and
certainly
getting
a
lot
of
national
attention.
A
It's
got
the
state's
attention,
that's
for
sure,
and
so
our
water
department,
as
well
as
service
safety,
director,
Andy
Stone,
put
this
together,
and
so
let
me
just
kind
of
read
it,
so
everyone
can
at
least
understand
what
the
situation
is
here
in
Athens,
which
is
great.
A
So
let
me
just
share,
while
the
situation
in
East
Palestine
is
a
devastating
ecological
disaster
affecting
air
water,
qual
and
water
quality
around
Eastern
Ohio,
the
city
of
Athens,
well,
fields
are
safe
and
have
additional
measures
in
place
to
continue
to
provide
Clean
safe
drinking
water
to
our
residents.
Even
if
the
disaster
were
to
strike
here
in
Athens,
which
it
isn't
the
city's
source
of
water
protection,
the
cities
Source
water
protection
area
is
in
Western
Athens.
A
We
have
an
extremely
aggressive
water
source,
Protection
Program
here
in
the
city,
which
you
can
easily
go
online
and
find
that
information
or
Scott.
We
should
make
sure
it's
front
and
center
for
for
some
time,
with
a
team
of
City
officials,
Health
Department
officials
and
outside
Consultants,
who
monitor
potential
threats
and
take
preemptive
action
to
mitigate
them.
A
The
Wellhead
Protection
Team
meets
monthly,
so
so
just
know
that
that
we
are
always
monitoring
always
Vigilant,
but
we
also
have
an
exercise
that
is
going
to
be
happening
in
May,
where
the
live
exercise
is
kind
of
around
a
rail
derailment,
a
hypothetical
rail
derailment
and
how
we
would
manage
a
situation
like
that.
So
just
want
that
out
there
for
people
to
know
shifting
gears
completely
from
water
to
soccer
registration
for
ages.
Three
through
five
begins:
February
20th,
so
it's
already
begun.
It's
35
dollars
per
child.
A
The
start.
Smart
soccer
teaches
children
ages,
three
to
five
the
basic
motor
skills
necessary
to
play
organized
soccer,
while
they
also
work
one-on-one
and
spend
quality
time
with
their
parents.
So
this
is
great,
please,
you
know
if
you're
interested
in
that
or
your
kiddo
might
be
interested
in
it
partake
in
it.
It's
it's.
A
good
program
is,
as
is
all
of
our
programs
at
the
Arts
Parks
and
Recreation
Department.
A
The
other
thing
I
want
to
mention
is
the
Ohio
University
is
holding
discussions
on
the
ridge's
future.
This
is
going
to
be
March.
24Th
they've
already
had
two
meetings
or
two
events
where
they
had
the
the
public
and
the
University
faculty
staff
and
administration
come
in
and
look
at
potential
designs
for,
or
concepts
for,
The
Ridges.
So
this
this
is
The
Ridges
development
strategy
and
it's
intended
to
move
the
richest
framework
plan
forward.
You
know
it
was
approved
in
2015.
A
and
now
it's
time
to
really
get
to
work
on,
implementing
or
creating
a
mixed
use
of
The
Ridges,
so
encouraging
people
to
come
to
us
it's
up
at
the
Regis
building
14.
On
the
second
floor,
it
is
from
2
P.M
to
4,
P.M
I,
know
that
can
be
challenging
for
those
of
you
who
are
working
and
not
able
to
get
away,
but
please
see
what
you
can
do
to
attend.
This
I
think
it'll
be
vital
as
we
look
at
how
The
Ridges
can
move
forward
in
being
redeveloped
historically
held
in.
A
You
know
the
historical
buildings
staying
as
they
are,
but
but
renovating
them
into
to
other
uses
with
mixed
use
as
I
understand
it.
It
can
be
housing,
it
can
be
retail,
it
can
be
educational
purposes,
it
can
be.
You
know
you
name
it.
Restaurants
could
go
in
there,
so
they're
really
kind
of
figuring
out
how
to
really
get
this
forward
and
find
the
right
developer
to
take
this
on,
so
so
check
that
out
again,
it's
up
at
The,
Ridges,
building
14
second
floor,
two
to
four
pm
on
March
24th.
A
The
last
item
I
have
today
is
one
I
really
enjoy
going
through
and
I've
got
guests
who
are
in
the
audience
here
with
me
today.
This
is
a
proclamation
declaring
this
month,
developmental
disabilities,
Awareness
Month
Office
of
the
mayor
Proclamation,
whereas
March
has
been
recognized
as
natural
developmental
disabilities
awareness
month
since
1987..
A
And
whereas
policies
must
be
developed.
Attitude
shaped
opportunities
offered
that
allowed
people
with
disabilities
developmental
disabilities
to
live
as
independently
and
productively
as
possible
in
our
community
and
whereas
the
city
of
Athens
is
proud
of
Community
Partners
such
as
the
Athens
County
Board
of
developmental
disabilities,
whose
vision
is
an
integrated
and
inclusive
Athens
County,
and
provides
vital,
vital
support
and
resources
to
nearly
700
residents
with
developmental
disabilities
and
their
families.
A
And
whereas
we
encourage
all
citizens
to
Foster
and
support
opportunities
that
include
access
to
education,
housing,
employment
and
recreational
activities.
Now
therefore,
I
Steve
Patterson,
the
mayor
of
the
great
city
of
Athens
Ohio,
do
hereby
Proclaim
March
of
2023
as
developmental
disabilities
awareness
month
and
offer
full
support
to
efforts
that
assist
people
with
developmental
disabilities
to
make
choices
that
enable
them
to
live
successful
lives
and
realize
their
potential
I
urge
all
citizens
to
join
in
the
Celebration
by
spreading
awareness
of
the
many
many
contributions
offered
by
people
with
developmental
disabilities
right
here
in
our
community.
A
Oh
right!
Well,
that's
pretty
much
a
wrap
for
today
Kyle!
So
for
those
of
you
who
are
tuning
in,
we
encourage
you
to
join
us
next
week
for
the
next
installment
of
the
weekly
update
with.
