Description
Mayor's Press Conference - April 19, 2023
A
A
That's
hard
to
believe
that
we're
more
than
halfway
through
April
and
you're
here
with
Kyle
Johansen
and
the
mayor,
so
welcome
Kyle,
it's
gorgeous
outside
I.
Don't
know
why
we're
in
here
doing
this,
but
do
we
have
more
of
this
in
store
for
the
next
seven
days?
Yes,.
B
We
should
have
some
of
these,
so
today
we
got
plenty
of
sunshine,
high
of
77
degrees,
winds,
white
and
variable,
and
I
mainly
clear
skies,
while
48
winds,
white
and
variable
tomorrow.
We're
going
mostly
sunny
skies
have
87
well
56
Friday,
mostly
cloudy
high
of
83
level.
52
Saturday
Morning
Rain
I
have
59
well
37.
B
Next
Monday,
we
got
mostly
sunny
skies,
High,
57,
well,
32,
next,
Tuesday,
probably
qualities
guys
high
of
64
over
40
and
next
Wednesday.
We
got
morning
showers,
High,
55,
65,
12
46.
in
sports.
We
have
no
home
Sports
this
week,
but
there
is
a.
There
was
quite
a
tons
of
events
this
past
weekend,
oh
yeah,
we
had
the
cherry
blossom
Invitational,
which
that
was
like
there
was
a
good
crowd.
There
was
also
a
kid
fest
versus
a
big
crowd.
There's
the
spring
game
was
a
good
crowd
and
awesome
baseball.
B
So
there
were
tons
of
people
out
and
about
there
as
well
like
they
had
like
all
kinds
of
good
stuff
at
the
spring
game:
a
lot
of
people.
There
was
like
all
kinds
of
events
going
on
this
past
weekend,
but
there's
a
break
of
it
all.
But
this
weekend's
a
big
separation.
We
got
the
Earth
Day
Parade
weekend,
Saturday
at
noon,
near
Pickering,
Hall
of
basketball
courts
in
front
of
it.
A
Apparently
Jackie
O's
is
releasing
a
a
beer
for
the
Copperheads
I.
B
A
B
A
B
A
Yeah
yeah
I
heard
about
that
all
right,
so
other
things
going
on
around
the
city,
the
north
Shafer
Street
storm
water,
Improvement
project,
you
know,
I,
know
that
they
finished
the
underground
work
and
McKee
Paving
is
over
there
repaving
that
site,
and
hopefully
that
will
be
put
to
get
to
bed
knock
on
wood.
This
Friday
so
just
know
that
there's
flaggers
in
the
area
they
are
pouring
asphalt
because
they
did
complete
that
the
underground
work
in
that
project,
which
was
a
pretty
heavy
duty
project.
A
It
was
deep
to
get
that
storm
tunnel
repaired
and
get
everything
opened
up
again.
I
also
noticed
today
and
yesterday
that
for
the
ODOT
project,
that's
taking
place
at
the
Stimson
Avenue
33
32
50,
interchange
that
they
are
pouring
asphalt
there
as
well
for
a
new
roundabout
yeah,
which
will
certainly
be
interesting
to
see
and
experience
that
newer,
roundabout
to
get
on
to
50
heading
towards
Belpre,
so
50
East
will
certainly
be
an
improvement
over
the
old
way
of
trying
to
do
that
from
Stimson
Avenue.
A
So
anyway,
that
project
just
beware:
they
are
putting
asphalt
down
and
but
that
the
underground
work
is
done.
City
of
Athens
spring
cleanup
and
the
Athens
Hawking
Solid
Waste
recycling
day
I
think
Ryan
has
a
slide
for
there.
It
is
we've
talked
about
this
plenty,
but
don't
forget
that
is
going
to
be
happening.
A
The
the
spring
cleanup
for
the
city
of
Athens
is
currently
underway
only
two
more
days
for
those
who
have
trash
recycling
picked
up
on
Thursdays
or
Friday
to
set
out
as
many
bags
as
you
want
to
just
keep
in
mind
that
it
is
a
15.75
charge.
If
you
have
large
items
again.
This
is
the
standard
special
Hall
minimum
charge,
but
we
also
have
like
I
said
the
Athens
Hocking
County
spring
recycling
days.
A
This
weekend
will
be
the
Athens
County
recycling
day,
which
will
be
at
the
fairgrounds.
So
you
have
all
kinds
of
stuff
that
you
can
get
rid
of,
and
I've
mentioned
this
before
the
dumpsters
are
available
out
at
387
West
State
Street,
that
is
the
City
Garage.
A
We
have
a
dumpster.
It
is
open
for
people
to
discard,
building
materials,
scrap
metal
and
so
on
and
so
forth,
and
it
is
open
from
7
30
to
3
30..
A
You
just
need
to
bring
a
photo
ID
and
a
copy
of
your
utility
bill
showing
that
you
do
live
in
the
city
of
Athens,
the
recycling
Athens
Hocking
recycling
day
that
will
be
9
A.M
to
1
p.m,
so
take
advantage
accessibility,
grants
I've
talked
about
this
before
that
the
city
is
now,
has
posted
accessibility
grants
for
up
to
fifteen
thousand
dollars
for
businesses.
A
This
is
being
basically
conducted
through
the
Athens
City
Commission
on
disabilities
to
make
sure
that
businesses,
if
they
choose
to
remodel
a
bathroom
that
is
not
ADA
Compliant
to
be
ADA,
Compliant
or
access
into
the
front
of
their
building
or
whatever.
As
long
as
it's
an
ADA
Initiative
for
that
business,
individuals
can
apply
for
up
to
fifteen
thousand
dollars
or
renovations.
A
Arts,
Parks
and
Rec
I
know
that
the
rec
department
put
out
a
whole
slew
of
things
on
Facebook
today
and
probably
other
media
Outlets.
But
there's
a
lot
going
on.
The
most
notable
thing
that's
going
on
at
the
community
center
is
the
new
solar
array.
This,
the
large
portion
of
this
array
will
be
in
the
farmer
large
dog
park
down
at
the
Community
Center
campus
right
off
of
East
Park
Drive.
A
There
will
also
be
a
solar
array,
canopy
that
is
put
up
over
the
pool
parking
area
or
a
portion
of
the
swimming
pools
parking
area.
There
will
be
solar
panels
put
on
the
roof
of
the
community
center.
That
will
happen
as
soon
as
the
re-roofing
of
the
community
center
is
done,
and
then
they'll
put
that
up.
So
there's
a
lot
going
on
new
pickleball
and
tennis
courts
will
be
coming
at
some
point
soon.
That
will
be
also
on
the
community
center
campus.
A
So
a
lot
a
lot,
that's
happening
at
the
community
center
and
I
know
that
they
are
just
chomping
at
the
bit
to
get
ready
for
opening
the
pool
which
will
be
happening
around
Memorial
Day,
as
is
typical
I
know
they
have
been
truly
Staffing
up
with
lifeguards
and
other
staff
at
the
pool
so
more
to
come
on
that
I
think
Ryan
has
a
an
image
to
show
you
and
it
is
for
inclusive
Sports
here
in
the
city
of
Athens.
This
was
sent
to
me.
A
It
is
a
survey
for
inclusive
sports
for
Ohio
youth
with
disabilities
to
where
they're
looking
for
people
who
are
K
through
12
in
the
Ohio
public
school
system,
youth
with
disabilities
in
grades,
K-12,
parents,
caregivers
of
youth
with
disabilities
K
through
12
again,
and
then
also
School
professionals,
to
fill
the
survey
out.
So
they
can
have
an
idea
as
to
what
exists.
What's
what
shortcomings
are
there?
What
is
needed
and
things
of
that
nature
so
take
out
your
cell
phone
aim
it
at
your
camera
at
the
QR
code.
A
There
you
know
it'll,
take
you
straight
to
that
survey
and
help
them
out
events
or
meetings
that
are
taking
place.
A
commission
on
disabilities
is
meeting
today
at
5
30
to
6
30.,
the
rec
Advisory
Board
is
meeting
tomorrow.
The
20th
that
is
5
30
to
7
P.M
here
in
council
chambers
and
Athens
city
council,
will
be
meeting
on
the
24th
of
April
at
7
pm
here
in
council
chambers
and
Kyle.
You
mentioned
the
Earth
Day
parade
Saturday
right,
which
is
Saturday
well
I've
got
a
proclamation
to
share
with
everybody.
A
Ryan
I
think
you've
got
a
copy
of
this
as
well
I'll,
just
paraphrase
off
of
a
couple
of
the
items
of,
whereas
is
whereas
the
Athens
environment
and
sustainability,
commission
and
the
office
of
sustainability
at
Ohio.
University
are
making
great
strides
to
protect
the
environment,
including
joining
together
to
celebrate
Earth,
Day
and
Arbor
Day,
and
to
share
progress
on
sustainability
initiatives
on
campus
and
in
our
community.
A
All
right,
that's
all
we
have
for
today,
Kyle
we'll
see
each
other
on
Saturday,
we'll
see
each
other
on
Saturday.
Yes,
we
will
I
will
be
in
the
parade
Kyle.
A
I'm
gonna
do
the
whole
parade
will
be
there
who
will
roof?
Of
course,
Rufus
will
be
there
I,
don't
think
you
wouldn't
be
there.
If
Rufus
wasn't
there,
would
you
all
right
thanks
for
joining
Kyle
and
I,
and
please
join
us
next
week
for
the
next
weekly
update
with
College
of
Hanson
in
the
mayor?
Take
care.
