Description
Mayor's Press Conference - September 13, 2023
A
A
B
C
C
C
In
sports
we
got
a
Morgan's
message:
field
hockey
game
on
Friday
at
3,
P.M
they're,
having
free
pizza
for
all
attendance
that
are
attained
to
the
game
and
they
are
having
rapid
for
free
prizes
and
admission
is
all
free
and
Saturday.
It's
also
their
return
gold
game
for
breast
cancer,
childhood
awareness,
Cancer
Month,
and
then
next
week
we
got
soccer
at
home
and
volleyball
at
home.
Next
week.
B
No
all
right
thanks,
Kyle
and
I
know
that
you'll
be
there
for
return
of
gold.
This
is
turn
it
gold
or
at
least
Childhood
Cancer,
Awareness,
Month
and
the
turnit
gold
organization
has
been
in
here
in
Athens,
for
you
know,
almost
10
years
now
raising
awareness
for
kids
that
are
living
with
and
recovering
from
Childhood
Cancer.
So
it's
going
to
be
cool
I,
don't
know!
Do
you
know
if
the
football
players
are
gonna
yeah.
B
B
B
They
will
be
going
through
area.
One
area
two
will
be
the
week
after
that,
the
23rd
through
the
27th
and
then
area
three
will
be
the
30th
through
the
third.
So
please
don't
rake
out
any
Halloween
trick-or-treaters
on
the
31st
because
they
will
be
out
that
evening.
Halloween
trick-or-treat,
neighbor
trick-or-treating
is
on
the
31st,
but
regardless
so
there's
the
schedule.
It
will
continue
to
push
this
out,
so
people
are
aware
of
not
only
the
areas
but
the
schedule
in
which
leaf
pickup
will
be
taking
place.
B
Some
things
going
on
in
the
Arts
world
there's
going
to
be
paint
a
mug
class
at
Arts
West.
This
is
kind
of
interesting,
it's
time
that
time
of
year
to
Get
Cozy
with
a
warm
drink,
and
you
might
as
well
just
decorate
your
own
right.
So
the
registration
for
this
will
run
up
until
October
4th
and
then
the
painting
classes
will
be
or
the
classes
will
be,
on
Sunday
October,
8th
from
3
to
5
PM
at
guess,
where
Arts
West
it'll
be
in
the
lower
Gallery.
So
this
is
going
to
be
in
the
lower
level.
B
Another
thing
that's
going
on
this
weekend,
which
is
one
of
my
I,
have
so
many
favorite
events.
You
know,
I
should
probably
just
stop
saying
that
and
say
a
great
event
is
the
papa
Fest
Papa
Fest
will
start
on
Friday
and
run
through
Sunday
I
will
be
judging
the
pawpaw
cook-off.
Yet
again,
with
two
of
my
favorite
people,
Chris
riddle,
the
wub,
the
voice
of
wub
and
Davey
McMillan,
who
is
the
chair
of
the
Athens
Commission
on
disabilities
and
with
the
three
of
us
in
whatever
category
we're
we're?
B
Judging,
we
always
have
a
great
time,
that's
at
11
o'clock.
So
if
you're
at
Papa
Fest,
please
stop
by
the
pawpaw
tent
and
I'm
sure
that
it
will
be
a
fun
time
for
all,
especially
Chris
riddle,
Davey
and
myself,
Mount
Zion
Church,
you
may
have
noticed
if
you've
driven
past
Mountain,
giant
design,
church
or
walk
past.
The
church
you'll
see
they're
scaffolding
all
over
the
church.
B
They
are
in
the
process
of
removing
the
stained
glass
windows
which
we
will
be
putting
in
safe
keeping
in
one
of
the
city
sites,
while
they
are
basically
being
rebuilt
and
brought
back
to
life
again.
They're
amazing
stained
glass
windows,
the
Rosetta
window,
which
is
the
large
round
one
I,
have
been
told,
is
appraised
at
approximately
a
million
dollars.
B
The
all
of
the
stained
glass
in
Mount,
Zion
Church,
is
beautiful
and
it's
great
to
see
that
it's
getting
the
TLC
that
it
needs.
The
scaffolds
are
up
there
like
I,
said
removing
the
stained,
glass
and
they're
going
to
put
it
all
back
together.
Again,
you
know.
Part
of
this
is
removing
the
lead
base
on
the
outside
of
the
building.
There's
a
lot
of
lead
based
substances
that
went
in
back
in
the
day.
You
know
we're
talking
a
building
that
was
basically
the
Cornerstone
being
laid
in
in
1909.
B
Something
else
I
want
to
share,
which
is,
in
my
opinion,
equally
important.
Today
is
the
one
year
anniversary
for
our
hiring
Lacey
Rogers
to
serve
as
the
city's
first
diversity,
Equity
inclusion,
accessibility,
training
coordinator.
She
has
been
able
to
accomplish
a
lot
in
the
year
that
she's
been
with
us
and
continues
to
engage,
not
just
with
our
city
employees
when
it
comes
to
racial
Equity
training,
but
also
beginning
to
be
more
public
facing
and
helping
with
with
conflict
resolution,
also
helping
with
training
in
the
school
system
here
in
Athens
and
other
places.
B
So
Lacey
Rogers
is
been
an
amazing
employee
for
the
city
and
you're
likely
to
see
more
press
coming
out
about
the
things
that
Lacey
has
accomplished.
Let's
see
what
else
do
I
have
meetings?
B
We
have
some
upcoming
meetings.
The
Athens
Municipal
Arts
commission
will
be
meeting
today
at
Arts
West
at
5
30
pm
the
Athens
shade
tree
commission
is
going
to
be
meeting
tomorrow
that
will
be
in
council
chambers
right
here.
Athens
city
council
is
going
to
be
meeting
on
Monday
and
that's
as
usual
at
7
pm
and
Scott.
Correct
me.
If
I'm
wrong,
it
will
be
a
regular
session,
we'll
be
bringing
forward
ordinances
which
Council
will
bring
up
as
either
third
second
or
first
readings
on
Monday
evening
and
then
the
Athens
Commission
on
disabilities.
B
I
should
probably
mention
this
shouldn't
I
the
Athena
award.
You
know
the
only
award
the
city
gives
out,
which
is
a
very
prestigious
War
award
this
these
days
for
individuals
who
are
working
with
people
living
with
all
abilities.
The
Athena
award
recognizes
those
who
go
above
and
beyond
either
individuals,
organizations
or
businesses
that
are
helping
individuals
again
with
varying
abilities
here
in
our
amazing
community
I.
Have
we
have
some
special
guests
with
us
today?
We
have
Matt
bear
bohrer.
B
B
Children
do
not
know
where
their
next
meal
is
going
to
come
from
and
whereas
everyone
needs
nutrition,
nutritious
food
to
serve
to
thrive
and
in
every
community
in
America,
people
are
working
hard
to
provide
for
themselves
and
their
families.
Yet
in
2021,
34
million
people,
that's
one
in
ten,
including
nine
million
children,
one
in
eight
faced
food
insecurity
here
in
the
United
States
and
whereas
the
city
of
Athens
is
committed
to
working
with
the
Southeast
Ohio
food
bank.
B
In
the
as
a
food
bank,
a
member
of
the
feeding,
America
Nationwide
network
of
food
banks
in
educating
people
about
the
role
and
importance
of
food
banks
and
addressing
hunger
and
raising
awareness
of
the
need
to
devote
more
resources
and
attention
to
hunger
issues
and
whereas
more
than
11
000
individuals
in
Athens,
County,
11,
000
individuals
in
Athens
County
receive
food
assistance
provided
by
the
members
of
the
Southeast
Ohio
food
bank
annually.
B
Now,
therefore,
ICE
Steve
Patterson,
the
mayor
of
the
great
city
of
Athens
Ohio,
do
hereby
Proclaim
September
15th
2023
as
hunger
action
day
in
the
city
of
Athens
Ohio
and
call
and
I
call
this
observance
to
the
attention
of
all
of
our
citizens.
So
I'm
going
to
give
this
to
both
of
you.
Thank
you.
B
All
right
all
right,
one
last
thing
to
throw
up
there
if
you
could
Ryan-
and
that
is
just
as
a
reminder
to
everybody-
use
the
City
Source
app.
The
Athens
Ohio
City
Source
app
easy
to
get
easy
to
find
just
go
to
Google
Play
or
to
the
Apple
App
Store
put
in
Athens
Ohio
City
Source
app,
and
you
will
have
at
your
fingertips
a
way
in
which
you
can
report
things
that
you
see,
that
might
be
broken,
need
to
be
paid
attention
to
a
litter.
Stray
animals
whatever
use
it.
B
City
Source
app
is
awesome,
we're
seeing
more
and
more
people
using
it.
We
really
encourage
the
incoming
class
at
Ohio
University
to
use
this
particular
app
because
they
will
probably
find
it
extremely
beneficial,
as
they're
migrating,
not
only
around
campus
but
throughout
the
city
of
Athens
Kyle
as
usual.
Thank
you.
My
friend
I
will
be
up
your
street
in
the
near
future
as
I
continue
on
my
Trek
across
the
city
going
door
to
door.
