From YouTube: Mayor's Press Conference 10-05-16
Description
City of Athens Ohio Live Stream
A
Good
afternoon
and
welcome
once
again
to
the
mayor's
weekly
press
conference,
it
is
October
fifth
at
about
20
6
p.m.
it's
77
degrees
outside
and
beautifully
sunny
I
just
walked
the
length
of
court
street
down
to
Baker,
Center
and
back,
and
believe
me,
it's
ridiculously
nice
so
get
outside
I.
Don't
know
why
you're
watching
me
right
now.
You
need
to
get
outside.
A
Aside
from
that,
we
have
a
number
of
things
going
on
in
the
city
when
it
comes
to
engineering
and
public
works,
as
well
as
other
departments
and
just
events
across
the
city
so
we'll
take
them
in
turn.
Are
the
the
engineering
and
Public
Works
Columbus
Columbus
road
bike
paths?
/
a
long-awaited
for
bridge
will
be
here,
the
metalwork
the
superstructure
will
be
coming
in
next
week
and
we'll
begin
actually
constructing
and
putting
the
bridge
itself
together.
A
The
bridge
contractor
expects
the
installation
to
occur.
Like
I
said
next
week
there
will
be
some
temporary
traffic
delays
in
Columbus
road,
as
that
bridge
is
being
trucked
into
the
city.
The
again
projects
going
on
in
terms
of
the
water
line
improvement
project,
which
consists
of
grand
park
east
state
street
to
dalton
and
alton
avenue
grand
park
boulevard
avon
place
so
that
project
is
still
underway.
York
paving
is
the
contractor
on
that
particular
project.
A
Residents
of
Grand,
Park
and
Dalton
within
this
project
may
experience
some
brief
water
outages
that
throughout
that
time
we
encourage
everyone
to
certainly
go
to
the
city's
website
as
well
as
look
for
any
placards
that
we
would
put
up
with
regards
to
any
Boyle
orders,
you
can
certainly
call
5945
078
for
any
updates
on
that
particular
project.
Franklin,
Avenue
infrastructure,
improvement
projects-
this
too
is
still
underway.
Aep
is
currently
moving
utility
poles
in
that
area,
so
you
can
expect
some
rerouting
of
traffic
through
franklin
avenue.
A
A
The
fire
department,
it's
the-
is
kicking
off
their
campaign,
a
campaign
during
fire
protection
week,
which
is
october
nine
through
the
15th.
The
national
theme
is
don't
wait
check
the
date
which
encourages
people
to
check
the
manufacture
date
on
their
smoke
alarms.
If
the
data
your
smoker
smoke
alarm
is
more
than
ten
years
old.
The
entire
unit
needs
to
be
replaced
to
keep
you
safe
smoke,
alarms
are
less
expensive
or
x-art.
A
Sorry
less
effective,
then,
after
a
ten-year
period
of
time,
less
effective
and
being
able
to
detect
smoke
in
your
house,
some
other
events
coming
up
through
the
fire
department
october.
Twenty
second,
there
will
be
a
smoke
detector
drive
and
on
october
26
the
fire
department
headquarters.
I
don't
know
if
this
is
including
station
too,
but
they
are
going
to
be
having
an
open
house.
So
everyone
please
come
on
down
to
headquarters
on
columbus
road
for
the
open
house
and
come
out
check
out
the
equipment
check
out.
A
The
West
neighborhoods
is
going
to
be
october,
21st
through
the
28th
November
14th,
through
the
18th
and
December
5th
through
the
9th
area
3,
which
is
pretty
much
all
the
south
side
of
the
city.
Leaf
pickup
will
be
October
thirty-first
through
November.
Fourth
November
21st
through
the
23rd
and
December
twelfth
through
the
16th
final
sweep
throughout
the
city,
will
be
a
December
nineteenth
through
the
22nd
I'm
sure
this
will
be
up
on
the
city's
website.
If
not,
it
will
be
shortly
so
that
everyone
can
find
a
link
to
that
for
the
leaf
pickup
schedule.
A
This
is
going
to
be
a
busy
weekend.
This
is
ohio
university's
homecoming.
A
couple
things
going
on
in
the
early
am
on
saturday,
the
eighth
there's
a
class
gate,
ribbon-cutting
ceremony
that
will
be
taking
place
so
everyone's
encouraged
to
come
to
that
I
know
that
Joe
Lolley
vice
provost
pamban,
aight
myself,
as
well
as
president
roderick
mcdavis,
will
be
speaking
at
that
event
again
830
a.m.
on
saturday
morning
and
then
starting
promptly
at
ten
a.m.
that
morning
is
the
homecoming
parade.
A
Another
thing
I
want
to
make
sure
that
I
stressed
everyone
is
that
the
new
parade
route
this
year
is
will
be
using
washington
street.
It
will
be
coming
further
up
court
street
and
then
taking
a
right
onto
washington
street
right
in
front
of
the
parking
garage
and
the
city
building,
and
so
we're
encouraging
people
who
are
going
to
come
and
use
the
parking
garage
to
observe
or
participate
in
the
homecoming
parade
that
please
get
there
early,
because
it
will
be
closing.
That
section
will
be
closing.
I
believe
around
9
45.
A
Also
to
make
note
if
you're
going
to
use
the
parking
garage
for
the
homecoming
parade
be
prepared
to
be
there
for
the
duration
of
the
parade,
because
once
the
parade
starts
there
will
be
no
one.
No
one
will
be
allowed
to
exit
from
the
parking
garage
so
anticipate
being
in
that
parking
garage
from
1030-1045
on
to
noon
at
thee
and
possibly
a
little
bit
sooner
depending
on
when
the
tail
of
the
parade
passes
by
the
city
building
in
the
parking
garage.
A
A
In
addition,
in
additional
ways
beyond
our
veteran
population-
and
we
want
to
reach
out
to
help
all
in
need
or
capable
of
assisting
and
whereas
a
stand
down
the
stand,
downs
have
been
used
as
an
effective
tool
in
reaching
out
to
people
who
are
homeless,
both
veterans
and
non-veterans.
By
connecting
them
with
resources.
A
Now,
therefore,
I
Steve
Patterson,
the
mayor
of
the
city
of
Athens,
do
hereby
proclaim
Thursday
octobre,
13
2016
as
lions
world
sight
day
in
the
city
of
Athens,
and
call
upon
our
citizens
to
join
with
the
Athens
Lions
Club
in
their
efforts
to
promote
vision.
Elf,
along
with
that,
the
Lions
Club
is
encouraging
people
to
recycle
their
use
glasses.
They
can
do
so
at
kroger
and
at
Walmart
I
know
as
well
as
the
Athens
County
Library.
A
A
Clubhouse
org
/
site,
/,
Athens,
Ohio,
/,
page
eight
dot,
PHP,
that's
pretty
much
all
I
have
in
terms
of
announcements.
One
last
announcement
that
I
do
want
to
make
the
month
of
October
is
Breast.
Cancer,
Awareness,
Month
I
believe
the
cupola
is
lit
up
pink
for
the
month
of
October,
but
I
also
want
to
point
out
to
everyone
that
is
a
fund
drive
or
campaign
for
breast
cancer
awareness
month.
We
have
these
fantastic
t-shirts
that
are
on
sale.
The
Athens
fire
department,
fire
rescue
as
well
as
Chi
Omega,
have
teamed
up
this
year.
A
These
t-shirts
are
fifteen
dollars
a
piece
and
the
money
again
goes
to
benefit
the
breast
cancer
survivors
network
of
southeastern
Ohio.
So
that
said,
please,
if
you
see
fit
to
donate,
to
that
particular
cause
and
plus
you
get
a
really
nice
t-shirt.
I
happen
to
buy
two
one
for
myself
and
one
for
my
wife.
That's
all
the
announcement
that
I
have
now
I'm
going
to
turn
it
over
to
the
post.
That
has
some
questions
today.
I
believe
right.
Yeah,
I'm,.
B
A
Well,
the
the
connector
concept
has
come
forward
because
there
is
an
opportunity.
There
is
some
funding
that
came
from
funding
that
was
coming
into
the
east
state
street
improvements,
and
so
the
idea
was
to
think
about
possibly
having
a
connector
that
would
connect
to
home
either
kind
of
circumventing
the
public
library
or
cutting
across
between
the
river
and
the
library
in
between
the
bike
path
and
the
library
and
connecting
to
home.
A
The
thought
was
that
it
could
help
with
having
traffic
flow
coming
into
the
community
center
in
a
different
way
versus
having
them
all
come
in
off
of
east
state
street
drive.
But
again
it's
just
a
concept.
There's
nothing
moving
forward.
There's
no
planning
that's
going
on
for
that,
but
it
was
something
that
came
forward
and
knowing
that
there
was
funding
that
we
could
look
to
see.
How
could
we
improve
traffic
flow
to
and
from
the
community
center
unto
itself.
A
I
mean
there,
there
are
some
other
options
that
could
be
thought
through
and
it
was
also
shared
during
City
Council.
You
know
with
the
news
what
will
be
the
new
Stimpson
Avenue
round
about
you
know
the
possibility
of
connecting
the
roundabout.
You
know
across
through
again
the
further
out
than
home
street
going
further
on
down
in
that
area
area
connecting
Stimson
kind
of
thinking
ahead
in
terms
of
traffic
flow,
but
even
that
received
some
concern
from
citizens
in
the
city.
All.
