Description
Mayor's Press Conference - October 6, 2021
A
B
and
in
the
last
24
hours,
there's
been
over
6
200
new
positive
chroniclers
case.
In
the
last
24
hours
we
have
passed
the
peak
of
delta
search,
including
the
new
variant
surge,
which
all
these
cases
started
to
come
down
all
50
states.
We
have
seen
out
a
hundred
thousand
new
cases
a
day
in
the
united
states
alone
and
after
the
county,
athens
county
senior
at
this
case
is
coming
down.
B
Last
monday
we
had
over
a
thousand,
and
now
we
are
less
than
700
and
that's
a
good
sign,
because
more
vaccinations
are
going
up
and
more
people,
students,
students
and
staff
and
ov
ordained
the
vaccines
before
the
deadline
is
next
month
and
oh
yeah
flex.
We
got
soccer
tomorrow
at
4pm,
fall
by
the
yell
like
hell,
pep
rally
on
college
ring
from
6
to
8
pm,
and
we
got
volleyball
on
friday,
trengold
from
four
to
six
pm,
and
then
we
got
the
parade
volleyball
and
football
on
saturday.
A
And
you
mentioned
turning
gold
so
that
volleyball
is
turnip
gold
and
always
worth
reminding
everybody
that
turn
it.
Gold
is
to
raise
awareness
for
childhood
cancer
and
so
check
that
out.
I
know
that
the
armory
has
the
turnit
gold
flag
flying
in
front
of
the
armory,
which
we
do
every
year
to
again
raise
awareness
and,
if
I'm
not
mistaken,
I
think
scott
thompson
lit
up
the
cupola
green
for
ou
homecoming,
which
again
is
this
weekend.
The
homecoming
parade
will
be
saturday
morning.
A
And
to
that
point,
as
well
as
as
many
others
and
kyle,
you
mentioned
this
as
well
with
the
coronavirus
cases.
A
A
And
people
who
are
fully
vaxxed
in
athens
county,
it's
44.21
percent
we've
got
to
continue
to
get
those
numbers
up
and
I
think
more
importantly,
well
equally
important.
Not
more
importantly,
equally
important
is
you
know
we
need
to
continue
to
wear
face
coverings.
You
know,
wear
a
face.
Mask
wear
a
face
mask
when
entering
into
businesses
open
to
the
public.
A
You
know
it's
it's
on
us.
You
know
to
police
ourselves,
you
know,
put
a
mask
on
you
know.
The
alternative
could
really
hurt
you,
you
know
get
get
the
vaccine
wear
a
mask.
I
was
just
walking
up
to
get
something
to
eat.
A
I
even
wore
the
mask
up
to
get
something
to
eat,
even
though
I
am
fully
vaccinated
and
have
been
for
quite
some
time
and
when
you're
outdoors
a
mask
is
not
necessary,
although
you
know,
I
know
that
there's
a
lot
of
people
on
court
street
this
time
of
day,
and
so
I
certainly
wore
a
face
covering
when
I
was
out
and
about
also
coveted
19
related-
is
again
getting
the
vaccine.
The
vaccine
clinic
there
will
be
one
on
friday
october,
8th
at
8
30
to
11
30
a.m.
A
This
will
be
at
heritage
hall,
which
is
at
191
west
union
street
here
in
athens,
they're
offering
the
f
in
both
pfizer
and
the
j
and
j
vaccine
pfizer
is
the
two
dose
and
j
and
j
is
one,
so
you
know
get
the
vaccine.
It's
free.
If
you
have
any
questions,
please
call
the
athens
city
county
health
department.
You
can
reach
them
at
592-4431.
A
Well,
let's
see
we
just
got
this
in
and
this
being
a
traffic
message
from
dr
tom
gibbs,
the
athens
city,
school
district
superintendent,
as
well
as
the
athens
police
department,
police,
chief,
tom
pyle,
and
I'd
like
to
read
it
to
everyone:
east
elementary
school
parents.
A
I
am
writing
today
about
an
ongoing
concern
related
to
afternoon
student
pickup
at
east
elementary
school,
the
school
district
and
the
city
of
athens
are
routinely
receiving
complaints
about
vehicles
that
are
lining
up
and
down
in
front
of
the
school
and
around
the
corner
and
down
maplewood
as
much
as
40
to
50
minutes.
Before
the
end
of
each
school
day.
A
Unfortunately,
drivers
are
not
pulling
into
parking
spaces,
but
are
blocking
the
roadway
and
private
drives
of
the
residents
on
maplewood
watt
and
wallace
streets.
While
this
is
certainly
an
inconvenience
for
those
residents,
it
also
poses
a
safety
hazard,
as
it
would
make
it
nearly
impossible
for
emergency
vehicles
to
access
any
addresses
in
the
immediate
area.
A
Additionally,
most
of
the
vehicles
running
during
that
time,
the
exhaust
of
as
many
as
for
of
as
many
vehicles
for
a
20
to
40
minute
period
of
time
is
problematic
for
multiple
reasons:
climate
change
for
one
you
know
idling
vehicles.
We
we
have
a
no
idle
policy
in
the
city
of
athens
and
you
know
for
city
vehicles.
So
so
you
know
your
car
you're,
just
idling
it
there
and
exhaust
is
billowing
out
the
back
of
your
car.
A
A
A
Parking
on
roadways,
highways,
roadways
and
streets,
so
you
know
please,
you
know
do
all
that
you
can
do
to
arrive
at
3
15
or
later
and
again.
If
you
see
that
there's
no
parking
spaces
on
the
sides
of
the
street,
then.
A
A
All
right.
Moving
on
smith
street
speaking
of
traffic
flow
smith,
street
traffic
pattern
change.
You
know
this
began
on
august
16th
and
is
running
through
october
16th,
and
that
is
that
smith
street
has
become
one-way,
southbound
from
bayern
to
west
union
street.
A
I've
mentioned
this
before,
but
it's
worth
reminding
people
again
northbound
traffic
on
smith
street
will
be
closed
from
west
union
street
to
buyer
during
demolition
of
an
adjacent
building.
This
is
the
wu
sock.
Building
at
ohio
university
foster
street
will
remain
open
to
traffic,
but
may
only
turn
south
onto
smith
street.
A
A
A
A
While
we
are
seeing
numbers
dropping
in
athens,
we
still
have
over
600
cases
active
cases
throughout
the
county,
so
we
will
not
be
closing
down
the
street
traffic.
There
are
no
band
stands,
there
are
no
stages,
there
is
no
acts.
There
is
really
nothing
that
will
be
taking
place
on
court
street.
The
neighborhood
trick-or-treating
will
be
happening
october,
31st
from
5
30
to
7
00
pm.
A
That
is
sunday.
You
know,
and
obviously
it
is
halloween
and
we
just
encourage
people
to
who
choose
to
distribute
candy
or
to
go
door-to-door.
Please
do
it
safely.
Social
distance
get
creative.
If
you're
going
to
deploy
candy,
we
saw
some
very
creative
ways
of
getting
candy
into
kids
goodie
bags.
Last
year
with
you
know,
pvc
pipes
and
people
hanging
treats
from
their
tree
branches
that
are
low,
low
hanging
tree
branches.
A
You
know
people
putting
little
suckers
into
the
ground
in
their
on
their
property
for
kids
to
come
by
and
pluck
them
out
of
the
ground.
You
know
whatever
you
choose
to
do.
Do
it
safely
again
that
will
be
october
31st
in
the
neighborhoods
from
5
30
to
7
pm
on
the
31st
leaf
pickup,
I
think
ryan's
got
a
there.
It
is
the
visual
again
just
as
a
reminder
that
leaf
pickup
is
happening
or
will
be
happening.
A
A
Then
the
area
2
west
side,
highland
congress
area
university
estates
and
uptown
neighborhoods
that
will
be
october
18th
through
the
22nd
and
then,
as
you
can
see
two
other
rounds
and
then
area
3,
which
is
south
side
old
coach
in
blackburn
hills,
neighborhoods
that
will
be
october
25th
through
the
29th
and
then
again,
two
other
rounds
after
that
and
we've
talked
about
this
before
as
well.
The
holiday
tree
pickup
will
take
place
between
december
27th
of
2021
and
run
through
january.
A
Another
display
that
I
know
ryan
has
for
us
is
the
halloween
movie
night
and
the
first,
the
the
movie
will
be
the
addams
family,
so
you
can
come,
hang
out,
it's
free,
no
charge,
no
advance
registration
needed
to
grab
your
lawn
chairs
or
blanket
or
whatever
you
want
and
hang
out
at
the
community
center.
I
believe
that
this
is
outdoors.
It
is
the
fields
behind
the
community
center
and
check
out
the
addams
family,
again
free
something
interesting
to
do.
A
If
you
have
any
questions,
you
can
always
reach
out
to
arts
parks
and
rec
at
592-3325
and
enjoy
a
movie
I
am
reaching
out
and
looking
for
people
who
might
be
interested
in
serving
on
some
of
our
boards
and
commissions.
A
I
know
that
the
municipal
arts
commission
will
be
having
a
vacancy
at
the
end
of
this
year.
So
will
the
rec
advisory
board
will
have
a
vacancy
at
the
end
of
the
year
and
shade
tree
commission
will
have
three
vacancies
at
the
end
of
the
year.
So,
if
you're
interested
in
serving
on
the
municipal
arts,
commission,
the
rec
advisory
board
or
the
shade
tree
commission,
please
reach
out
to
my
office
and
express
your
interest,
and
you
can
call
my
office
at
592-3338.
A
Again,
always
looking
for
individuals,
we
we
have
some
fine
candidates
who
counsel
approved
to
serve
on
the
board
of
zoning
appeals.
A
Ben
lachman
and
kelly
sauber
have
both
indicated
that
they
wanted
to
serve
on
the
bza
and
council
voted
to
approve
them
as
a
slate.
So
congratulations
to
those
two
for
serving
speaking
of
of
boards
and
commissions.
The
planning
commission
will
be
meeting
tomorrow
here
in
council
chambers
at
noon,
from
noon
to
1,
30.
A
A
We
have
some
changes
that
we
have
made
based
upon
the
testimony
in
opposition,
as
well
as
supporting
the
off-street
parking,
and
I'm
hopeful
that
people
will
be
in
attendance
here
for
that.
As
we
work
through
the
the
changes
to
the
proposed
off-street
parking
that
came
before
us,
we
did
have
a
public
hearing.
The
public
hearing
was
extremely
informative
in
terms
of
people's
thoughts
about
that
particular
amendment
to
the
off
street
parking,
and
so
please
come
tomorrow
and
join
us.
A
Board's
regular
meeting
will
be
monday
october
11th
that
will
be
at
5,
30,
5
30
to
6
30
in
the
front
conference
room
and
finally,
athens
city
council
will
be
in
committee
monday
october
11th
at
7
pm
and
as
usual
right
here
in
council
chambers,
kyle,
always
wonderful
having
you
with
me
today,
as
you
have
been
for
what
two
and
a
half.
B
A
Two
and
a
half
years
time
flies
when
you're
having
fun
and
we're
also
always
trying
to
dream
up
new
things
and
and
different
ways
of
presenting
information
to
the
viewing
audience.
So
don't
be
surprised
if
we
get
a
little
tricky
with
some
green
screen
work
in
the
near
future,
hopefully,
and
the
other
thing
that
we
need
to
do
one
of
these
days
soon
kyle
is
maybe
take
our
our
press
conference
on
the
road
somewhere,
maybe
have
it.
I
might.
A
Tailgate
park
that'd
be
cool,
yeah
tail
great
park.
Who
knows
you
never
know
where
we'll
show
up
next
thanks
for
tuning
in
and
please
join
kyle,
and
I
next
week
for
the
next
weekly
update
and
press
conference
with
the
mayor
and
kyle
johansen
take
care.
