Mayor's Weekly Update - June 2, 2021
A
Good
afternoon
and
welcome
once
again
to
the
athens
weekly
updates
with
the
mayor
and
kyle
johansen
kyle,
you
know
I
know
last
weekend
was
really
getting
up
and
down
and
all
over
the
place
you
know
from
memorial
day
weekend
was
really
nice,
but
the
two
days
prior
saturday
and
sunday
was
a
little
bit
different
felt
like
fall
again.
So
what
do
you
have?
What
are
we
looking
forward
to
in
the
next
seven
days,
kyle.
B
B
monday
night,
probably
cloudy
well,
64.
tuesday,
probably
cloudy
hot
high
93,
tuesday
night,
isolated
storms,
low
of
65
next
wednesday,
probably
quite
a
high
of
90
and
a
low
of
66
with
ice
weather,
storms,
chronovirus
cases
in
ohio.
Today
there
have
been
now
334
new
positive
chronic
virus
cases
in
the
state
of
ohio
in
the
last
24
hours
brings
a
total
of
1
million
100
000
hundred
and
sixty
four
cases.
B
A
And
I
think
that
everyone
likely
knows
by
now-
or
some
of
you
may
not-
that
the
governor
has
lifted
a
large
number
of
the
state
orders
that
were
in
place
to
include
face,
masks
and
here's.
A
statement
made
by
governor
mike
dewine
indicating
that
over
5
million
people
have
received
their
at
least
one
dose
of
the
vaccine
and,
as
I
understand
it,
roughly
four
million
who
have
completed
both
first
and
second
doses.
A
A
So
that
all
said
you
know
we're
still
really
encouraging
people
to
wear
face
coverings.
A
Some
other
things
coveted
19
related,
is
that
the
athens
county
municipal
court
has
a
covet
19
update,
and
that
is
due
to
the
pandemic.
The
athens
athens
county
municipal
court
has
limited
the
number
of
individuals
in
the
courtroom
and
on
the
second
floor
hallways
or
in
the
second
floor
hallways,
I
believe
that
they
are
also
still
requiring
people
to
have
face
coverage
when
they
come
into
the
judge's
courtroom.
A
If
you
have
any
questions
about
municipal
court
and
their
protocol,
we
encourage
people
to
reach
out
to
them
at
592-3328,
again
592-3328
the
and
again,
there's
still
lots
of
vaccine
out
there
at
both
the
pharmacies
and
the
public
county,
athens,
county
city,
county
health
department.
It's
a
mouthful,
the
athens
city
county
health
department.
So
we
encourage
people
to
call
ahead,
but
I
think
a
lot
of
the
pharmacies
are
doing
walk-ins
to
get
the
vaccine,
but
it's
always
a
good
idea
just
to
call
ahead
and
find
out
what's
available.
A
There
you
go
there,
you
go
all
right!
Thank
you,
kyle,
as
usual
speaking
of
sorry
kyle.
What
was
that
see
you
next
week
see
you
next
week,
kyle
speaking
of
ohio
university
likely.
Most
people
are
aware
that
dr
hugh
sherman,
the
former
dean
for
the
business
school
college
of
business,
has
been
appointed
to
a
tier
year
two-year
term
as
president
of
ohio
university,
making
him
the
22nd
president
of
ou.
A
Another
big
change
going
on
in
the
city
is
that
micah
mccary
has
been
appointed
by
the
athens
county
democratic
party
to
fulfill
the
unexpired
term
of
former
council
member
beth
claudefelter,
so
you'll
see
a
new
face
on
city
council
during
city
council
meetings.
But
as
a
reminder,
city
council
will
be
going
on
recess
for
the
month
of
july,
so
right
around
the
corner,
but
you
likely
will
be
seeing
council
member
mccary
at
the
council
meetings.
A
A
This
was
through
the
northeast
ohio,
public
energy
council,
some
of
their
programming
that
they've
got
what
you're
looking
at
is
a
personal
device
locker
that
can
service
electrically
up
to
10
devices,
possibly
even
more,
if
you
put
multiple
devices
in
a
singular
locker.
But
again
I
don't
know
that
for
a
fact,
but
it's
free
mobile
device
charging.
This
is
pretty
cool.
This
is
from
again
the
northeast
ohio,
public
energy
council
and
it
securely
charges
your
phone.
So
these
are
lockable
devices.
Where
you
get
a
code
you,
the
door
opens
up.
A
If
there's
one
available
you
plug
in
your
device,
shut
it
and
away,
you
go
to
go
work
out
to
work
rock
on
the
track
to
do
whatever
you're
going
to
do,
plus
it
sanitizes
your
device.
While
you
are
working
out
and
your
phone
is
being
charged
or
your
tablet
or
whatever
it
is.
You
carry
around
with
you,
so
this
is
pretty
cool,
some
other
updates
for
the
city.
A
A
So
keep
that
in
mind
at
the
pool,
and
I
believe
that
the
pool
will
also
be
operating
at
full
capacity
as
of
today,
as
a
matter
of
fact,
so
keep
that
in
mind
with
the
pool
the
couple
other
things
that
I
will
be
engaged
in
tomorrow
afternoon.
A
I
will
be
going
up
to
zanesville
for
a
meeting
of
southeast
ohio
mayors
with
senator
sherrod
brown
to
discuss
infrastructure
needs
and
other
needs
in
southeastern
ohio,
so
that
will
be
an
interesting
engagement
and
then,
on
monday
I
have
a
meeting
with
governor
dewine
up
in
columbus,
very
similar
to
discuss
some
of
the
needs
that
we
are
certainly
seeing
in
southeast
ohio
and
across
the
state
with
that
meeting,
so
pretty
pretty
interesting
to
be
able
to
engage
with
the
governor
on
southeast
ohio
needs.
A
Other
things
that
are
happening
is
that
the
athens
city
sustainability
commission
will
be
meeting
today
from
six
to
seven
p.m,
so
feel
free
to
check
that
out
and
then
the
joint
place
advisory
council
is
going
to
be
meeting
june
3rd
tomorrow
at
5
00
to
6
p.m.
And
then
city
council
will
meet
monday
evening
june,
7th
with
a
committee
meeting
to
be
followed
by
a
regular
session
of
council
and,
as
I
mentioned,
council
will
be
going
on
recess
during
the
month
of
june
july.
A
So
what
you're
likely
to
see
is
a
number
of
of
special
sessions
if
needed,
as
we
move
forward
with
legislation
that
we
need
to
get
off
of
the
docket
before
council
goes
into
recess.
A
The
last
thing
that
I
wanted
to
share
is
a
proclamation
office
of
the
mayor
proclamation,
whereas
the
city
of
athens
is
committed
to
creating
a
community
that
is
inclusive
of
all
identities
and
intersections
of
identities.
And
whereas
the
city
of
athens
has
been
and
continues
to
be,
a
proud
supporter
and
participant
in
the
athens,
pride
fest.
And
whereas
the
city
of
athens
is
committed
to
supporting
those
impacted
by
violence
and
to
collaborately
work
through
throughout
the
city
to
end
anti-lgbtq,
plus
attacks
of
any
kind.
A
And
whereas
the
city
of
athens
celebrates
the
lives,
experiences
and
contributions
of
lgbtq
plus
individuals
to
the
vibrancy
of
our
community,
not
only
during
the
month
of
june,
but
throughout
the
year.
And
whereas
the
city
of
athens
has
a
history
of
supporting
the
lgbtq
community
through
policies
such
as
our
inclusive
non-discrimination
policy,
domestic
partner
registry,
their
proclamations
in
support
of
marriage,
equality
and
fairness,
ohio
act
and
whereas
the
city
of
athens
affirms
that
lgbtq
plus
young
people
are
the
now
of
our
community
and
not
just
the
future.
