Description
Mayor's Weekly Update - March 10, 2021
A
Good
afternoon
and
welcome
once
again
to
the
weekly
update
with
the
mayor
and
with
kyle
johansen,
I
am
speaking
to
you
live
from
my
house
today
and
I
was
in
the
city
building
this
morning
and
when
I
left
to
come
here
for
the
broadcast,
I
noticed
that
it
is
incredibly
nice
outside
kyle.
What
is
what's
today's
weather
and
what
is
the
seven
day
outlook.
B
A
Nice
getting
warmer
so
kyle,
we
typically
spend
some
time
talking
about
covet,
19
updates,
but
before
we
get
into
that
march,
13th
is
daily
savings.
B
A
There
you
go
daylight
savings
time
and
again
that
is
spring
forward,
so
we're
going
to
lose
an
hour,
but
we
just
wanted
to
get
that
out
there
and
make
sure
people
were
reminded.
It's
also
a
good
time
to
change
the
batteries
in
your
smoke
detectors
and
carbon
monoxide
detectors
so
kyle.
Let's
talk
give
us
an
update
on
covet
19.
Please.
B
So
today
there
have
been
and
sixty
eight
new
colonial
virus
cases
in
the
state
of
ohio
in
the
last
24
hours
approaching
17
600
deaths
nationally
over
29
million
cases
in
over
a
quarter
of
them
over
525
000
deaths
globally.
There
are
now
over
117
million
cases
and
roughly
approaching
2.9
million
deaths,
and
now
we
have
a
vaccine
mass
clinics
coming
in
the
state
of
ohio,
beginning
next
wednesday
in
15
sections,
cleveland,
columbus,
mansfield
dayton,
cincinnati,
chillicothe,
akron
wheeling
and
all
the
other
little
royal
areas.
A
And
then
there's
the
mobile
vaccine
unit
that
is
going
to
be
deployed,
there's
four
of
them
across
the
state
and
athens
will
have
a
mobile
vaccination
clinic
and,
as
I
understand
it,
it
will
be
the
j
and
j
vaccine
to
where
we
can
get
that
out
into
some
of
the
the
areas
that
certainly
have
difficulty
in
trying
to
find
transportation
to
get
into
athens
county
or
to
pharmacies
throughout
the
county
into
athens
city.
Rather,
so
that's
great
news
too
for
the
the
city
of
athens.
A
A
So
it's
that's
always
great
to
see
that
our
numbers
appear
to
be
steadily
dropping.
But
again
I
say
this
every
time
it
doesn't
mean
that
we
are
anywhere
near
out
of
the
woods
or
into
a
safer
place,
so
we
just
gotta
keep
wearing
a
face
covering
and
protecting
each
other
kyle
athletics.
What's
going
on
at
ou
sports
within
ou
sports.
B
So
today,
the
all
oil
women's
basketball
team
is
in
cleveland
for
the
mac
tournament
first
round.
Tomorrow
the
men's
are
at
the
mad
tournament.
First
round,
friday's
men's
and
women's
are
for
the
semifinals
and
then
saturday,
it's
the
actual
finals
for
basketball
and
soccer
is
back
at
home
at
chesterfield
or
penis
city
at
4
p.m,
and
volleyball
is
back
home
next
wednesday.
A
A
We
have
some
pretty
important
information
to
share
with
you
today
and
again.
Don't
have
a
lot
of
updates,
but
always
good
to
bring
these
things
forward.
The
athens
city
county
health
department
has
announced
that
they
are
now
scheduling.
A
I
know
that
we've
got
a
lot
of
preschools
and
day
cares
throughout
the
city,
so
child
care
service
workers
will
be
eligible
to
get
that
vaccine,
which
again
is
great
news.
You
can
always
call
down
to
the
health
department,
and
I
believe
this
is
where
you
would
call
to
schedule
as
well
at
592-4431
again
the
athens
city
county
health
department
to
schedule
a
vaccination
appointment.
A
A
A
593-7636
some
general
news
utility
billing
office
has
resumed
the
selling
of
the
athens
public
transit
bus
passes.
So
if
you
are
an
avid
ethics,
public
transit
writer
and
want
to
get
your
pass,
you
can
certainly
do
so.
I
just
would
encourage
you
to
call
to
make
an
appointment
for
the
utility
billing
office
to
meet
with
you.
The
you
may
purchase
these
wednesdays
and
thursdays
from
10
a.m.
To
noon
so
call
in
advance
to
set
up
something
with
utility
billing
to
come
down
and
pick
up.
A
Your
bus
passes,
parks
and
rec
has
several
things
that
they
are
announcing,
they're,
introducing
the
muscle
up
challenge.
This
challenge
will
run
the
entire
month
of
march,
and
all
you
need
to
do
is
go
to
the
front
desk
to
sign
up,
or
I'm
sure
that
you
can
call
592-3325
and
and
register
that
way
or
you
can
probably
go
online
and
register
online
through
the
community
center.
A
The
oh
and
the
other
thing
for
arts
parks
and
rec
is
they
have
their
new
spring
2021
activity
brochure
hot
off
the
press.
So
I
would
encourage
you
to
check
that
out
as
well
as
they
say.
There's
something
for
kids
and
adults
alike.
And
you
can
view
that
by
going
to.
A
Www.Ci.Athens.Oh.U.S
and
look
at
the
spring
2021
activity
brochure
for
the
community
center
and
likely
all
things,
arts,
parks
and
recreation,
the
city
of
athens,
we're
currently
hiring-
and
this
is
arts
parks
and
recreation
specific,
I
believe,
but
they're
currently
hiring
for
seasonal
positions,
lifeguards
pool
cashiers
summer
day,
camp
counselors
park,
maintenance
and
cemetery
maintenance.
So,
if
you're
interested
in
any
of
those
seasonal
positions,
please
contact
the
city
at
592-3367.
A
Again,
that's
five,
nine,
two,
three
three
six
seven!
This
is
that
time
of
year,
when
we
are,
are
really
starting
to
ramp
up
our
seasonal
employees.
For
things
like
the
swimming
pool,
which
will
is
scheduled
to
be
opened
this
summer
upcoming
meetings,
we
have
the
municipal
arts
commission
is
going
to
be
meeting
today
this
evening
from
5
30
to
7
00
pm.
A
I
will
be
at
that
meeting
shade
tree
commission
is
meeting
on
the
11th
at
7,
00
p.m
and
at
the
city
council
as
usual,
except
for
the
fifth
friday
of
the
month,
we'll
be
meeting
at
7
p.m.
March,
15th.
So
this
coming
monday,
that's
pretty
much
all
I
have
for
today
as
kyle.
A
It
indicated
it's
really
pleasant
outside
so
hopefully
you're
taking
advantage,
but
we
will
be
seeing
some
precipitation,
I'm
sure
over
the
next
several
days,
but
regardless
enjoy
now
continue
to
wear
a
face
mask
please
when
you're
out
in
public
or
entering
into
a
business
that
is
open
to
the
public
and
keeping
the
mask
on
social
distance
as
best
you
can
and
stay
healthy.
Please
stay
healthy
stay,
safe,
have
a
great
rest
of
your
week
and
hopefully
you'll
tune
in
again
next
week.
