Description
Mayor's Weekly Update - February 24, 2021
A
Like
it's
like,
truly
late
spring,
outside
right
now,
temperature
wise,
it's
extremely
comfortable.
Why
you-
and
I
are
indoors
doing
this
broadcast-
is
beyond
me,
but
regardless
kyle,
what
what
is
the
current
weather
and
what
is
the
seven
day
outlook.
B
B
A
It
really
feels
good
outside
right
now,
so
it's
so.
It's
always
encouraging
when
you
have
great
days
like
today
and
sure
we're
gonna
have
some
rain
in
store
in
the
seven
days
ahead,
but
also
some
pretty
tolerable
weather
temperatures
in
comparison
to
what
we
just
came
out
of
with
this
significant
cold
front
that
moved
through
kyle
give
us
an
update
if
you
would
on
the
coronavirus
numbers
as
of
today.
A
Yeah-
and
I
don't
know
if
you've
noticed
or
not,
but
the
flags
are
flying
at
half
staff
from
now
started
today
actually
may
have
started
yesterday,
but
it'll
be
for
the
next
five
days
to
where
our
flags
are
flying
at
half
mast.
It
was
it
started
yesterday
so,
and
that
is
in
recognition
of
the
half
a
million
people
that
we
have
lost
due
to
the
coronavirus.
A
And
locally
we
had
this
is
as
of
yesterday,
as
of
yesterday,
we
had
12
new
cases
here
in
athens,
county
and,
unfortunately,
a
new
one,
more
death.
As
of
yesterday,
which
brings
our
total
up
to
31
people
who
have
perished
in
athens
county
due
to
due
to
the
coronavirus,
kyle
oeu
athletics,
anything
new,
any
updates
on
ou
sports.
B
So
tomorrow
the
men's
are
home
again
against
eastern
michigan
at
2
p.m.
At
the
convo
friday
fastball
begins
at
barbarian
stadium
against
morehead
state
saturday
senior
day
men's
basketball
game
at
2
p.m.
Against
buffalo
sunday
baseball
is
at
morehead
state
kentucky
in
a
week
from
tomorrow.
All
your
soccer
begins
at
home
at
chesterfield
at
3
p.m,
against
miami.
A
Nice
good
luck
to
the
bobcats
this
spring
season
for
all
sports
and
all
athletes,
certainly
a
challenging
time
for
athletics
and
how
it
was
last
year
will
be
again
this
year,
but
my
they've
got
my
full
support.
A
Updates
for
things
going
on
around
the
city,
a
few
things
that
are
mo
notable
again,
the
stimson
avenue
project
update
phase
one
is
still
underway,
where
all
local
traffic
on
stimpton
avenue
between
the
roundabout
and
estate
street
will
be
restricted
to
westbound.
Only
eastbound
traffic
will
be
detoured
onto
east
state
street.
Again,
that
is
the
plan
for
phase
one.
A
I
believe
that
they
are
still
have
flaggers
grant
street
will
be
closed
from
stimson
avenue
at
stimson,
avenue
and
morris
avenue
at
that
intersection
march
1st,
through
the
mark
through
march
4th.
So
keep
that
in
mind
north
court
street.
This
is
something
that
just
came
up
that
there
will
be
a
lane
closure
today.
It
has.
It
started
this
morning
at
eight
and
we'll
wrap
up,
hopefully
at
3
30
this
afternoon
so
shortly
this
is
the
west.
A
This
is
between
west
state
street
and
carpenter
street.
So
keep
that
in
mind
that
there
is
a
lane
closure-
and
this
is
for
the
street
crews
to
get
in
and
do
some
street
repairs
on
the
north
court
street
block
any
questions
about
that
feel
free
to
reach
out
to
engineering
and
public
works
at
593-7636.
A
The
athens
city
income
department
is
open
and
ready
to
assist
taxpayers,
so
they
are
open
monday
through
friday,
from
8
to
4
p.m.
So,
please
reach
out
to
them.
I
would
encourage
you
to
call
first
at.
A
We
still
want
to
continue
to
to
encourage
people
who
might
be
in
need
of
rent
relief,
that
there
is
a
program
that
is
still
in
place.
A
A
the
eligibility
you
must
be
at
or
below
80
of
the
county's
median
income
level,
which
varies
by
county
and
size
of
the
household,
also
demonstrate
the
risk
of
experiencing
homelessness
or
or
housing
instability
and
have
experienced
financial
hardship
due
to
covet
19.
So
I
want
to
make
sure
that
that
is
out
there
for
people
to
take
advantage
of.
If
you
need
to
arts
parks
and
recreation
has
still
has
a
few
spots
available
in
their
preschool
program,
you
know
stop
by
the
community
center
and
enroll
your
child.
You
can
sign
them
up.
A
A
A
A
So
please
join
me
as
well
as
council
president
chris
nisly
and
all
of
your
ward
and
at
large
representatives
at
that
meeting.
That's
all
I
really
have
for
today.
So
as
usual,
you
know
please
be
safe.
A
Please
continue
to
wear
your
mask
mask
up
wash
your
hands
frequently
in
social
distance
as
we
continue
down
this
road
to
recovery
from
the
corona
virus
pandemic.
But
it's
we've
got
a
long
road
ahead
of
us.
So
don't
let
your
guard
down
when
it
comes
to
all
things.
Coven
19.!
I
should
also
mention
the
second
round
of
vaccinations.
Speaking
of
coping
19
for
all
athens,
school
districts,
teachers
and
staff
will
be
this
friday.
A
So
that's
good
news
too,
to
where
they
will
have
their
second
round
of
vaccinations
for
that
group
of
individuals,
and
hopefully
there
will
be
more
face-to-face
instruction
as
we
round
out
the
spring
semester
for
k-12,
thanks
for
tuning
in
and
please
join
us
again
next
week
for
the
next
athens
weekly
update
with
the
mayor.
