Description
Mayor's Press Conference - November 3, 2021
A
Good
afternoon
welcome
to
the
weekly
update
with
the
mayor
and
kyle
johansen
kyle
it's
gorgeous
outside
and
before
we
get
into
the
weather.
I
just
got
to
say
I
think
I
have
seen
you
out
and
about
more
this
past
week
with
with
the
university
of
miami
university
of
ohio
playing
ou,
and
I
know
that
you
have
been
out
and
about
hopefully
getting
a
chance
to
hang
with
your
your
favorite
favorite
person
of
all
time
rufus.
A
But
I
just
want
to
stay
on
the
front
end
that
I
know
how
engaged
you
are
when
it
comes
to
ou,
sports
and
and
but
that's
a
whole
aside
to
today's
update
kyle,
give
us
an
idea
as
to
how
much
more
frigid
if
it
is
going
to
get
more
frigid.
The
weather
is
going
to
be
at
night
time,
in
particular,
moving
forward
over
the
next
seven
days.
B
B
Elementary
school,
kids
and
middle
school
kids
could
get
the
500
vaccine
and
it
can
be
very
vaccinated
before
christmas
time,
then
before
they
go
back
to
spring
semester
and
nationwide,
our
seven
average
cova
cases
count
has
been
dropping
since
september
and
we're
supposed
to
keep
going
on
down
throughout
the
winter
and
plus
it
hits
the
below
five
thousand
in
case
a
day
nationwide.
Before
we
hit
the
end
of
january
and
also
that
shot
65
years
and
older
will
be
ending
by
the
end.
B
B
The
band
will
be
announced
before
tip-off
begins
at
2pm,
and
also
so
don't
forget.
Saturday.
Before
you
go
to
bed
change
your
clocks,
small
corn,
bars
and
radius
batteries,
then
we
got
more
basketball
at
home
next
tuesday
night
7pm,
and
we
got
two
more
volleyball
games
at
home
next
week
and
we
got
two
more
football
games
away
and
one
more
home
football
game
at
home.
On
the
16th
to
be
announced,
it
could
be
at
7,
30,
pm
or
8
p.m,
even
though
david
zingstein,
that
would
confuse
people.
A
B
A
Number
one
yeah
props
to
the
big
congratulations
to
women's
soccer
as
they
move
forward.
I
think
they
have
another
game
coming
up
against
bowling
green,
if
I'm
not
mistaken,
but
you
know
it
just
it's
amazing
and
worth
mentioning
to
everybody
to
kind
of
follow
up
on
kyle's
numbers.
There
you
see
the
numbers,
people
who
have
the
percentage
that
have
started
the
vaccine
and
the
percentage
that
has
completed
the
vaccine.
A
I
was
just
talking
to
president
hugh
sherman
the
other
day,
and
he
has
indicated
to
me
that
the
average
for
everyone
at
ohio
university
is
above
80
percent,
which
is
outstanding
in
terms
of
numbers.
A
So
again
the
as
kyle
indicated
the
active
counts.
This
is
as
of
yes
yesterday
in
athens,
county
is
264.
A
vastly
different
than
three
or
four
months
ago.
When
we
were
in
the
thousands
dropping
down.
Unfortunately,
we
do
have
one
additional
death
with
a
total
of
89
deaths.
I
also
was
at
a
meeting
where
I
was
listening
to
a
report
out
from
obelina's
hospital
and
they
had
indicated
that
they
have
very
very
few
people
in
the
icu
at
oblena's
hospital,
and
that
was
interesting
news
and
finally,
in
the
coveted
19
realm,
you
know
we
constantly
get
well
twice
a
week.
A
We
get
an
update
on
our
viral
load,
sampling
that
goes
on
in
the
the
four
sample
sites
for
the
city
of
athens,
as
well
as
the
five
sample
sites
on
campus
and
for
the
city
sample
sites,
the
sample
sample
recordings.
The
assays
coming
from
the
viral
load
testing
is
that
they
are
continued
to
trend
downward,
which
is
a
really
great
indicator
that
those
are
going
down,
as
kyle
indicated,
with
a
vaccine
that
is
available
for
individuals
that
are
age
5
to
11
that
november
12
from
1
to
6
p.m.
A
At
heritage
hall,
which,
as
you
see
on
the
slide
191
west
union
street
here
in
athens,
there
is
no
cost.
You
bring
your
insurance
card,
an
id
for
the
kids
that
are
five
on
up.
They
have
the
pfizer
vaccine
and
kids
under
the
age
of
18,
which
would
be
by
and
large
a
lot
all
those
kids.
You
must
be
accompanied
by
a
guardian
or
a
parent.
A
All
right,
stimson
avenue,
engineering
and
public
works
updates.
This
is
great
to
be
able
to
share
the
final
course.
The
top
course
of
asphalt
was
completed
yesterday
afternoon
at
2
pm.
I
believe
so.
A
The
asphalt
work
is
complete
next
week
they
will
start
the
lane
marking
and
once
they
get
the
lane
marking
down,
they
will
then
transition
to
back
to
two
lanes
or
two
ways
of
traffic,
both
the
eastbound
and
the
westbound,
as
opposed
to
just
the
westbound.
Currently
they'll
continue
doing
sidewalk
work
pouring
concrete
and
other
things
within
that
project
corridor,
but
again,
good
news
that
they,
you
know,
were
able
to
get
the
asphalt
put
down
well
before
the
asphalt
plants
start
to
close,
which
is
typically
mid
to
late
november.
A
A
Other
street
improvements
we
have
the
crack
ceiling,
that's
going
to
be
going
on.
I
mentioned
this
last
week
to
where
the
company
that's
working
on
that
street
improvement
project
is
mckee,
paving
they're
going
to
hit
hillcrest
strathmore
boulevard,
2nd
street
west
state
street
south
may
avenue,
northwood
drive,
cable
lane,
stroud's
run
road
and
richland
avenue,
so
there'll
be
flaggers
as
they
are
out
there
with
their
their
crack
seal
wands.
Putting
crack
seal
down
you
know
tonight
is
going
to
be
a
very,
very
cool
event.
A
A
I
will
be
emceeing,
like
I
said,
along
with
dave,
davey
mcnally,
so
we're
asking
you
to
tune
in.
A
I
think
if
I'm
not
mistaken,
the
government
channel
is
going
to
be
broadcasting
that
live
along
with
likely
having
it
on
all
of
our
other
streaming
and
or
recorded
platforms
to
make
sure
that
gets
out
to
everybody,
but
this
year
what
is
truly
special
about
it
is
that
the
athena
award
itself
has
a
whole
different
look
and
I'm
not
going
to
give
away
any
secrets
that
would
require
you
to
tune
in
and
watch
it,
but
the
award
has
been
redone
in
past
years.
A
It
was
a
glass
flame,
a
hemp,
a
blown
glass
flame
sitting,
atop
a
hand
turned
wooden
pedestal,
but
this
year
it
is
not
that
so
you
know
it'll
be
a
really
fun
evening.
Previous
winners
include
patty.
Mitchell
of
passion
works,
ohio
university,
professor
j.w
smith.
A
It
also
is
a
past
recipient.
Elsie,
stanford,
founder
of
the
athens
photographic
project
in
2018,
was
the
recipient
so
tune
in
the
winter
crisis
program
at
hapcap,
hawking,
athens,
prairie
community
action
is
going
to
begin.
It
has
begun,
so
residents
can
call.
A
740-868-1908
for
an
appointment-
and
this
is
an
interesting
program
where,
where
they
will,
with
limited
amounts
of
funding
and
or
limited
amounts
of
fuel,
it's
a
subsidy
to
help
with
a
10-day
supply
of
firewood
25
tank
supply
of
bulk
fuel,
such
as
propane
natural
gas.
A
Coal
or
kerosene,
so
you
know
check
this
out.
There's
also
benefits
amounts
for
utility
relief
for
regulated
utilities
up
to
175
dollars,
and
that
would
be
companies
such
as
aep
or
columbia,
gas
non-regulated
utilities,
750,
and
that
would
be
companies
like
south
central
power
or
gloucester.
Electric
bulk
fuels
up
to
nine
hundred
dollars
for
a
one-time,
fill
propane
fuel
oil,
etc
and
firewood
up
to
550.
A
And
speak
with
robin
hampton,
and
she
will
give
you
more
info
on
that
program.
We've
talked
about
this
a
lot
of
times.
It's
always
good
to
remind
people
about
our
leaf
pickup
here
in
the
city
of
athens,
great
service,
to
where
you
can
have
your
leaves
raked
out
to
the
curb
or
in
front
of
your
home
on
the
street
and
our
leafer.
A
The
leaf
truck
will
go
around
and
suck
those
up,
we're
looking
at
zone,
one
or
area
one
which
is
north
side
near
east
side,
far
east
side
neighborhoods
that
is
going
on
this
week
next
week.
It
will
go
to
area
2,
which
is
the
west
side,
university
estates
and
uptown
neighborhoods,
and
then
the
week
of
the
15th
will
be
the
south
side,
old,
coach,
blackburn
hills,
neighborhoods
and
and
then
they
will
continue
on
their
cycle
for
another
round
of
picking
up
leaves
because
they
are
a
fallen
medical
supplies.
A
We
talked
about
this
last
week
worth
reminding
people,
medical
supply
and
equipment,
recycling
event
that
is
going
to
be
this
saturday
from
10
a.m,
to
2
p.m.
At
the
athens
community
center
things
that
they're
looking
for
that
are
acceptable,
are
wheelchairs,
walkers,
crutches,
oxygen
equipment,
cpap
machines
and
many
other
things
things
they
will
not
take.
Is
medical
waste
or
medications
and
they're
asking
please
no
rusted
equipment
so
again,
the
community
center
november
6
saturday
from
10
a.m
to
2
p.m.
A
We
had
to
postpone
the
adams
family
movie.
It
was
going
to
be
the
29th
of
october.
That
did
not
happen
and
it
has
been
moved
to
november
5th,
so
still
engaging
with
reggie
rock
and
reggie,
who
will
be
playing
music
and
then
the
movie
will
begin
at
7,
00
pm,
so
come
down
behind
the
community
center
on
our
new
inflatable
screen
and
check
out
that
movie
some
dates.
A
We
want
people
to
remember
when
it
comes
to
your
trash
and
recycling
pickup,
as
well
as
composting
veterans
day,
is
coming
up
next
week
november
11th,
so
thursday
hrc
will
be
closed,
which
means
then
that
there
will
be
a
delay
in
having
your
trash
picked
up.
It
will
be
on
friday
instead.
So
please
keep
that
in
mind
the
thanksgiving
for
the
november
25th
again,
that
is
a
thursday
and
so
hrc
will
be
closed.
Thursday
it'll
be
a
one-day
delay
for
those
routes.
A
Christmas
day
again
a
delay
it'll
be
closed
on
friday,
actually
no
delay.
I
apologize
for
that
because
it
is
a
friday,
so
there's
no
delay
and
then
the
same
holds
true
for
for
new
year's
day
that
there
is
no
delay.
They
will
be
closed
on
friday.
So
we'll
make
sure
we
get
that
out
on
heavy
rotations
where
people
can
check
it
out.
If
I'm
not
mistaken,
that
is
also
on
the
city's
website.
A
Yeah
I'm
getting
the
big
head
nod
from
the
person
who
keeps
me
in
line
scott
thompson
upcoming
meetings.
Shadetree
commission
is
meeting
november
4th
due
to
veterans
day,
so
that's
going
to
be
happening
tomorrow.
It'll
be
7
to
8
p.m.
Here
in
council
chambers
open
to
the
public,
so
if
you're
having
a
hard
time
getting
to
sleep
or
have
indigestions,
come
down
and
watch
the
shade
tree
commission
that
may
help
athens
city
council's
going
to
be
meeting
monday
november,
8th
here
in
council
chambers
at
7
pm.
A
The
board
of
zoning
appeals
is
going
to
be
meeting
tuesday
november
9th
7
p.m.
Here,
in
council
chambers,
a
couple
of
chambers
of
the
hop
in
place,
the
joint
police
advisory
council
is
going
to
be
meeting
tomorrow.
This
is
tomorrow,
and
it
will
be
at
the
oupd
meeting
room,
which
is
118
ridges
circles.
This
is
up
at
up
at
the
ridges,
that
is
from
5
to
6
p.m.
A
Again,
the
joint
police
advisory
council,
the
arts
parks
and
recreation
board
will
be
meeting
wow
there's
a
lot
going
on
tomorrow.
A
It
is
tomorrow
as
well
that
is
5
30
to
6
30
at
the
athens
community
center
activity,
room
c-
I
don't
know
if
the
new
director
catherine
ann
jordan
will
be
there
or
not,
but
hopefully
she
will
be
able
to
attend
that
meeting.
But
again,
that
meeting
is
also
open
to
the
public.
It
is
tomorrow
evening,
5
30
to
6,
30
p.m,
athens,
community
center
activity,
room
c
for
the
recreation
advisory
board.
