Mayor's Weekly Update - February 3, 2021
A
Welcome
once
again
to
the
mayor's
weekly
update,
if
you
haven't
been
outside
it's
chilly,
but
it's
really
really
pretty
beautiful
outside
blue
blue
skies,
sunny
kyle!
If
you
would
give
us
an
update,
please
the
what
the
next
seven
days
are
going
to
look
like.
B
thursday,
mostly
cloudy
slight
chance
of
a
shower
late
high
of
43..
Tomorrow
night's
rain,
snow
12,
29.
friday,
cloudy
much
colder
high
of
33
friday
nights,
probably
cloudy
low
of
25
saturday,
probably
quite
a
high
of
35.
sunday
nights
mostly
cloudy
low
21
sunday
morning,
clouds
followed
by
afternoon
sun
high
of
30.
B
B
A
B
B
A
A
I
am
in
almost
daily
communication
with
jack
pepper
who's,
the
administrator
at
the
athens
city,
county
health
department-
and
you
know
the
health
department
is,
in
my
opinion,
doing
an
outstanding
job
when
it
comes
to
getting
the
vaccine
out
as
they
get
it,
making
sure
that
they
are
getting
the
word
out
that
the
vaccination
clinics
are
going
on
some
of
some
of
the
things
that
I
want
to
share
that
one
when
it
comes
to
the
highlights.
A
Our
high
points
from
the
athens
city
county
health
department
is
that
they've
will
be
administering
over
1100
vaccine
vaccinations
to
the
k
through
12
staffers
faculty
and
support
staff
in
the
school
districts.
That's
going
to
be
going
on
friday,
and
that's
everybody
in
that
category.
That
is
opting
or
wants
to
be
vaccinated.
A
A
The
they
have
not
wasted
one
single
dose
of
vaccine.
They
have
a
waiting
list
of
people
that
they
will
contact
if
they
know
that
they've
got
during
the
shot
clinics.
They
know
that
they
are
going
to
have
enough
to
do
more
people
than
are
on
the
current
list,
and
so
they
who
are
currently
signed
up,
they
will
bring
more
people
in.
A
We
have
moved
that
down
on
to
west
union.
They
needed
something
to
help
direct
people
to
the
proper
parking
area.
So
that's
where
it
is
temporarily.
We
will
put
that
back
on
back
on
court
street
once
they
are
done
with
this
significant
shot
clinic
that
they
are
having.
So
again,
they
are
doing
wonderful
things,
as
are
all
the
pharmacies
that
are
involved
in
administering
the
vaccine,
having
the
vaccine
what
they
get.
A
One
of
the
problems-
and
I
this
is
important
to
note
that
one
of
the
problems
that
the
health
department
and
the
pharmacies
are
experiencing
is
again
getting
enough
doses
down
here.
There
is
limited
supply
that
comes
in,
but
just
know
that
when
they
do
get
it
they're
giving
it
it's,
you
know
shots
and
arms.
A
B
Tonight,
womans
are
back
home
against
kent.
State
at
six
men's
are
at
bowling
green
at
5
p.m.
On
saturday,
all
your
wrestling
is
at
1
o'clock
on
sunday.
Softball
starts
next
week.
The
super
bowl
game
is
sunday
against
kansas
city
chiefs
in
the
timber
bay
buccaneers
down
in
tampa
bay
area.
In
the
month
from
tomorrow.
A
Super
bowl
I
mean
it.
Does
it
almost
doesn't
seem
fair
that
one
of
the
teams
is
actually
in
their
their
hometown
on
on
their
field,
but
it
is
what
it
is.
Yes,
it
should
be
good
kyle
as
usual.
Thank
you.
Thanks
for
updating
us
on
the
weather,
covet
19
as
well
as
ou,
and
now
pro
ball
athletics.
So
thanks,
kyle
you're,
welcome.
A
Let's
see,
updates
from
engineering
and
public
works,
the
stimson
avenue
project
the
work
for
this
week.
Aep
will
continue
with
a
lot
of
work
in
that
corridor.
The
other
things
going
on
will
columbia.
Gas
is
still
doing
work
on
the
lateral
lines,
and
that
will
be
basically
on
the
south
side
of
stimson
avenue,
replacing
sidewalk
on
palmer
street
things
of
that
nature.
Aep,
like
I
said,
we'll,
be
working
primarily
at
the
intersection
of
cornwall
street
state
street
with
stimson.
A
A
I've
mentioned
the
traffic
plan
that
westbound
traffic
will
always
be
maintained
during
the
project.
It
will
switch
from
the
south
side,
or,
I
should
say
the
eastbound
lane
at
when
they
start
working
on.
The
north
side
of
the
street
same
holds
true
for
when
they're
working
on
the
south
side
of
the
street,
so
they'll
keep
flipping
back
and
forth
the
detour
for
those
who
want
to
go
eastbound
is
going
to
be
east
state
street.
A
So
keep
that
in
mind
the
something
that
that
came
up
recently-
and
I
know
this
was
mentioned
during
city
council-
is
the
introduction
introduction
of
a
new
app
here
in
the
city.
A
Thank
you,
ryan.
What
you're
looking
at
is
a
screenshot
of
the
athens
ohio
city
source.
A
A
lot
of
you
are
familiar
with
us
using
city
source
in
the
past
and
the
ease
at
which
people
can
report
different
issues.
Everything
ranging
from
potholes,
damaged
street
signs
graffiti
litter
things
of
that
nature,
but
also
able
to
make
requests
for
street
light
requests,
damaged,
trees,
parking
meters
and
a
whole
slew
of
other
things.
The
app
is
easy
to
do,
and
now
you
can
find
it
at
google
play
or
the
apple
app
store
again
just
plug
in
athens,
ohio
city
source,
and
it
will
pop
right
up
for
you.
A
It
uses
gps
to
recognize
the
actual
site
that
to
where
the
problem
is
that
you're
identifying
it
that
the
public
is
identifying.
You
can
upload
pictures,
you
can
upload
video.
A
You
can
also
make
sure
that
on
the
menu
there's
a
lot
of
common
quality
of
life
conditions
that
you
can
select
from
in
terms
of
what
the
issue
is.
So
this
is
great.
I
know
that
scott
and
ryan
have
been
pushing
for
a
long
time
to
make
sure
that
this
is
able
you're
more
able
easily
able
to
get
a
hold
of
this
uploading.
A
This
app
and
now
you
can
do
so
again,
just
simply
put
in
athens,
ohio
city
source
using
google
play
or
the
apple
app
store
to
download
this
app.
Please
use
it,
please
do
it,
please
use
it.
It's
just
one
more
way
in
which
the
city
can
be
even
more
responsive
to
the
concerns
that
you
may
have.
A
It
also
gives
you
follow-ups
on
what
is
you
know
that
it
was
received?
You
know
the
action
completed
if
there
if
it
was
an
actionable
item,
something
that
need
to
be
repaired,
you'll
be
updating
that
as
well.
It's
a
great
app!
A
A
You
can
reach
out
at
592-3337
or
email
t
timberman.
That
would
be
t.

at
c
I
dot
athens.oh.u.s
to
reach
out
to
tina
timberman,
who
is
our
tax
administrator,
some
filing
deadlines
to
get
that
out
there
to
everyone.
A
Just
reminders:
income
tax
returns
april,
15th
extension
for
filing
deadlines
also
need
to
be
end
by
april
15th
and
then
returns
on
extension
would
be
october,
15th
so
again
reach
out
to
the
athens
income
tax
department
via
email
or
calling,
but
they
are
currently
closed
to
the
public
due
to
the
pandemic
or
it's
parks
and
rec.
A
They
are
going
to
start
smart
basketball
registration.
This
is
ages
3
through
5..
It's
going
to
be
open
until
march
1st.
The
program
prepares
individuals,
children
between
the
ages
of
three
and
five
for
organized
basketball.
Parent
participation
will
be
required.
Children
will
be
learning
ball,
handling,
dribbling,
passing
catching
and
running
agility
skills.
So,
if
you're
interested
please
reach
out
to
the
community
center
on
that
at
592-3325
instructional
basketball
registration-
this
is
grades
k
through
second,
this
also
will
be
opened
until
march.
A
1St
program
is
designed
to
help
kids
k
through
12
k
through
2,
not
12,
k
through
2
to
hone
their
basketball
skills
again
improving
dripping,
dribbling,
passing,
shooting
and
defense
agility
skill
sets
crafter
nunes
again.
This
is
for
children
k
through
third
grade
they're,
going
to
be
doing
shrinky
dinks.
A
This
is
wednesday
february
3rd,
so
check
that
out.
If
you're
interested,
there
is
a
19
registration
fee
for
that,
and
you
can
register
at
this
on
the
city's
website
for
crafternoons
shrinky
dinks,
hippo,
hoppo
dance.
A
This
will
be
the
second
session.
This
will
be
tuesday,
tuesdays
february.
9Th
is
the
next
one
at
the
community
center
exercise
studio.
So
come
check
that
out.
There
is
a
price
for
that
as
well,
and
it
is
25.
A
A
A
If
you're
interested
at
the
city
council
will
be
next
monday
at
7,
00
pm
as
usual,
that
is
february
8th
and
then
the
mortar
zoning
appeals
will
meet
february
9th
at
7
00
pm,
if
you're
interested
in
watching
happenings
with
the
board
of
zoning
appeals
for
anyone
who
has
has
seen
the
athens
news.
There
is
an
article
on
the
front
page
and
it
speaks
to
the
city
working
with
the
racial
equity
coalition.
A
In
our
efforts
to
address
systemic
racism,
we'll
be
working
with
them
to
look
at
things
like
the
city
code
as
well
as
city
policies
and
they're,
going
to
again
help
with
with
kind
of
doing
a
an
assessment
as
to
how
we
are
doing
and
certainly
recommend
changes
as
they
may
be
identified,
so
that'll
be
great
working
with
the
racial
equity
coalition
as
we
move
forward.
A
A
I
will
do
my
best
to
make
sure
you
can
see
it,
but
anyway
yeah.
It
looks
like
a
just
a
typical
bottle,
but
this
is
a
bottle
that
was
used
by
a
company
here
in
athens
back
in
between
the
years
of
1906
and
1923,
and
it
was
called
the
star
mineral
water
works
here
in
athens,
ohio
and
that's
what
it
says
on
the
bottle
itself
and
as
I
was
told
by
this
deputy
service
safety
director
andrew
chicky,
that
they
did
certainly
mineral
waters,
they
did
seltzer
waters.
A
They
also
did
made
something
called
hard
seltzer,
which
is
kind
of
fascinating
kind
of
a
real
early
precursor
to
things
that
you
can
find
in
the
grocery
stores
now,
with
hard
ciders
and
hard
all
kinds
of
adult
beverage
things
out
there.
So
this
is
pretty
cool,
a
really
interesting
piece
of
city
history
that
I
will
keep
in
the
office
and
cherish
and
hand
it
on
for
mayors
to
come
as
kind
of
an
interesting
piece
of
our
fascinating,
fascinating
city,
history.
A
That's
pretty
much
all
I
have
for
today.
So
thank
you
for
tuning
in
for
those
of
you
who
did
and
hopefully
you'll
tune
in
again
next
week
for
the
next
weekly
update
with
the
mayor.
Stay
safe,
be
careful
social
distance,
wear
a
mask
when
you're
out
and
about.
