Description
Mayor's Press Conference - December 8, 2021
A
Good
afternoon
happy
wednesday
and
welcome
to
the
weekly
update
with
the
mayor
and
kyle
johansen
kyle
today
was
kind
of
a
funny
day
when
it
comes
to
weather.
Like
this
morning
I
got
up
and
it
was
in
the
mid-20s
and
right
now
it
seems
a
little
bit
warmer
than
that,
but
it's
we're
kind
of
we're
kind
of
ping-ponging
all
over
the
place.
What's
the
seven
days,
gonna
look
like
ahead
of
us.
B
B
But
now
the
omicron
variant,
it's
more
than
20
states
right
now
so
far
known,
ohio
yeah,
but
it's
in
michigan
and
surrounding
other
states
around
us
right
now
and
besides
the
pomegranate
bearing
it's
not
quite
as
deadly,
but
it's
not
quite
there
as
a
depth
bearing
but
more
transmitted,
but
it's
only
showing
a
lot
of
symptoms
for
all
people
in
the
united
states.
Right
now.
So
that's
the
problem.
B
B
Then
we
got
man's
basketball
home
again
on
the
21st.
That's
the
noon
game
tip-off
time,
and
then
we
got
one
more
home
game
of
the
20-21
year
against
eastern
michigan.
That's
at
7
p.m,
and
that's
the
first
mac
game
of
the
2021-2020
season
and
then
women's
basketball
won
this
past
saturday
against
the
richmond
spiders
and
the
men's
team
won
against
saint
francis
this
past
saturday
and
was
bringing
on
the
bobcats
in
the
where
he
won
six
games
and
only
lost
one
game.
So
fluttershy
anderson,
like
I,
want
more
home
games,
left
to
go.
B
A
Hard
to
believe
you
know,
time
is
absolutely
flying
this
month
as
we're
winding
down,
and
this
is
finals
week
at
ou
as
well.
So
good
luck
to
all
the
bobcats
that
are
taking
their
finals
as
well
as
the
class
that's
going
to
be
going
through
commencement,
which
is
awesome.
So
here
are
some
numbers
again.
We
show
these
try
to
show
these
weekly
with
the
vaccination
rate,
the
those
started
and
those
completed
and
again
it's
just.
A
It
seems
to
be
such
a
slow
creep
in
terms
of
the
increase
in
the
the
people
starting
their
vaccination
and
those
that
have
completed
both
shots,
one
and
two
of
the
moderna
and
the
pfizer
or
the
just
getting
the
shot
for
j
and
j
and
and
as
kyle
mentioned
getting
the
booster.
If
you,
which
most
people
are
booster
eligible.
A
A
The
I
know
that
I
took
my
daughters
down
there
to
get
their
second
dose
and
they
I've
never
seen
my
daughter
so
happy
to
get
a
shot
before
to
get
the
second
dose
the
sites
for
athens
county,
offering
the
coveted
19
vaccine
for
the
five
to
11
year
olds.
You
know
you
can
see.
We've
got
the
athens
city,
county
health
department,
obama's
hospital.
A
You
can
go
to
walmart,
kroger
or
holster
clinic
to
get
that
second
dose
or
to
get
your
first
dose
so
get
it
get
get
the
vaccine.
We
keep
shrinking
the
ages
in
which
people
are
eligible
to
get
the
vaccine.
You
know
which
clearly
is
leaving
our
infants
up
to
four-year-olds,
but
and
kyla
had
to
laugh
when
you're,
sharing
the
weather
and
I'm
thinking
so
saturday
we're
going
to
be
looking
at
a
shift
from
basically
60
some
degrees,
all
the
way
to
just
south
of
of
30
degrees.
A
You
know
with
29
degrees
and
that's
that's
a
huge
swing,
but
you
know
it's
that
time
of
year,
not
a
whole
lot
to
update
on
for
things
happening
around
the
city,
but
just
as
a
reminder
to
everybody
during
the
holiday
season,
the
city
does
have
free
parking
in
the
on
every
thursday
and
saturday
after
5
p.m.
You
know
in
the
parking
garage
and
on
the
street,
so
keep
that
in
mind.
You
know
take
advantage
of
that.
The
other
thing
it's
always
good,
to
remind
people.
A
You
know,
as
we
will
migrate
into
the
colder
temperatures
except
for
saturday
with
that.
You
know
the
chance
for
snow
increases,
clearly
and
just
a
reminder
when
we
do
have
snow
events
that
we
have
on
the
books,
a
city
ordinance
that
requires
people
to
remove
the
snow
from
their
sidewalks
businesses
and
residential
areas.
So
just
make
sure
that
you
get
the
snow
removed
after
snowfall
ends
to
clear
that
passageway,
especially
for
those
who
are
older
or
people
with
with
living
with
all
abilities,
so
that
they
can
easily
ambulate
through
our
city
sidewalks.
A
Some
other
things
just
to
keep
in
mind
in
the
uptown
area.
It
is
the
only
area
where
riding
a
bicycle
or
skateboards
or
rollerblades
or
whatever
on
the
city.
Sidewalk
is
not
permissible,
and
it's
largely
because
of
the
density
of
pedestrian
traffic
that
we
have
on
our
sidewalks
along
court
street.
So
keep
that
in
mind
too.
You
know,
walk
your
wheels,
some
other
things.
A
This
is
important,
but
I
want
to
share
this
with
everyone,
and
that
is
that
we
got
a
notification
from
aep
that
asplund
is
in
town
and
they
are
doing
some
tree
trimming
and
it's
extensive.
I
could
go
into
all
the
streets,
but
I
think
most
of
us
who
are
citizens
and
residents
in
athens.
We
know
where
those
streets
are
but
kind
of
to
give
you
an
idea.
Idea:
dahlia
drive,
cook,
drive,
woodside,
drive,
harris
road,
cable,
lane,
mcguffey
tulane,
ransom,
north
may
home.
A
Hudson,
lincoln
meadow
meadow
lane
east
park
drive,
lorraine,
avenue,
elmwood
place
south
may
south
shannon
sunnyside
I
mean
the
list
goes
on
and
on
and
on
there's
some
going
on
up
in
our
neighborhood
kyle.
I
know
that
because
they
were
in
front
of
my
house
trimming
a
tree
so
that
we
don't
have
disruptions
of
service
with
a
tree
or
a
limb
or
something
falling.
A
If
you
have
any
questions
regarding
the
tree
trimming
that
asplund
is
doing,
I
encourage
you
to
reach
out
to
the
aep
utility
forester
jeff,
ing,
jeff
ing,
and
you
can
reach
jeff
at
740-594-99.
A
To
get
dog
license
renewed
the
workspace
at
the
community
center.
Just
as
a
reminder,
this
is
a
great
deal
to
where
people
who
want
to
take
a
break
from
working
from
home
and
work
where
they
have
reliable,
wi-fi
and
broadband.
You
can
go
down
to
the
community
center,
it's
free
to
members
or
seven
dollars
a
day
which
would
include
the
use
of
the
the
fitness
facilities
at
the
community
center.
A
Some
last
items
to
share,
and
that
is
that
this
evening
the
athens
municipal
arts
commission
will
be
meeting
that's
5,
30
to
7
p.m.
At
arts
west,
if
you're
interested
in
joining
them
shade
tree
commission
will
be
meeting
tomorrow
evening,
that's
from
7
to
8
p.m.
That'll
be
here
in
council
chambers,
city
council
will
be
having
a
meeting
next
monday
night,
the
13th
of
december
right
here,
council
chambers
and
then
the
athens
board
of
zoning
appeals
will
be
meeting
at
7
pm
tuesday
december
14th.
A
The
last
thing
I
have
is
for
anyone
who's
walking
by
take
a
look
up
in
the
cupola,
and
hopefully
you
can
see
it,
but
we
have
a
visitor
in
the
cupola
for
a
short
period
of
time
and
it
is
the
holiday
yeti,
the
uptown
holiday
yeti
that
has
frequented
a
lot
of
businesses
on
court
street
just
to
raise
awareness
of
shopping,
local,
the
the
yeti
creeped
up
into
the
cupola
and
is
looking
out
the
window
facing
the
parking
garage.
A
So
if
you
happen
to
be
walking
by
take
a
look
up-
and
hopefully
you
can
catch
sight
of
the
infamous
holiday
yeti
up
in
the
city
cupola-
that's
all
I
have
for
today
kyle
and
I
will
be
having
a
weekly
update
next
week
at
the
our
typical
time
and
after
that
you
know
we're
going
to
take
a
week
off
for
the
holiday
week
and
then
we'll
be
back
again
in
between
new
year's
between
christmas
and
new
year's
to
wish
you
all
a
safe
and
happy
new
years,
but
getting
ahead
of
myself
once
again.
