Mayor's Weekly Update - September 8, 2021
A
Good
afternoon
and
welcome
once
again
to
the
weekly
update
with
the
mayor,
we're
kind
of
back
to
the
weekly
update,
at
least
for
the
time
being.
As
you
can
see,
I
have
k
kn
95
face
covering
on
and
kyle
is
really
enjoying
the
outdoors
so
more
to
come
on.
Why
I'm
wearing
a
face
covering
but
kyle,
give
us
an
update
on
all
things,
weather,
covid
and
in
ou
athletics,.
B
It's
home
on
saturday
against
duquesne,
which
is
outside
of
pittsburgh.
2
p.m.
Penis
a.m.
Parents
weekend
and
then
we
got
soccer
back
home
again
on
the
23rd
field.
Hockey's
back
home
on
the
24th
friday
all
starts
their
home
season
on
the
24th,
the
25th,
and
then
they
got
parents
weekend
coming
up
now
and
we
got
homecoming,
which
is
about
four
weeks
away.
A
A
You
know
I
I
say
this,
I
think,
during
every
update
and
press
conference,
and
that
is
there's
a
simple
solution
to
the
pandemic
that
we're
under.
It
is
two
part
one
where
a
face
covering
when
you're
entering
into
any
business
or
facility
that
is
open
to
the
public,
because
it's
protecting
yourself,
it's
protecting
others.
The
other
thing
is
people.
Wake
up
and
get
the
vaccine
get
vaccinated.
A
A
You
know
it's
affecting
our
youth
in
young
kids,
more
so
than
the
original
covet
19
variant.
But
it's
it's!
You
know
this.
The
solution
to
this
is
get
the
vaccine.
It's
safe!
It's
effective!
It's
easy!
It's
free
and
we're
a
face
covering
you
know
which
it's
a
piece
of
cloth
over
your
face
to
protect
each
other,
so
we
just
need
everyone
to
get
with
the
program
and
do
what
is
the
right
thing
to
do?
A
Weekly
updates,
the
engineering
and
public
works.
We've
got
a
major
traffic
pattern
change
over
on
smith
street,
which
is
in
between
bayern
and
west
union
street.
It
will
be
southbound
directional
only
in
that
area,
as
opposed
to
both
north
and
south.
North
traffic
on
smith
will
be
closed
between
west
union
and
bayern
street
for
demolition
of
an
adjacent
building.
So
just
keep
that
in
mind.
If
you
live
on,
foster
foster
will
be
one-way.
Traffic
maintained
towards
smith
street
south.
So
keep
that
in
mind.
A
If
you're
going
down
foster
street
you'll
have
to
it
will
remain
open,
but
you're
only
going
to
be
able
to
turn
south
on
to
smith
street.
If
that's
the
direction
to
which
you're
heading
other
news
from
around
the
city.
Again,
we
have
the
face
covering
ordinance,
that's
in
place.
A
You
know
we
are
requiring
people
wear
face
covering
when
you're
entering
into
a
business
that
is
open
to
the
public
again
it's
to
protect
each
other.
So
this
is
consistent
with
ohio,
university's
policy,
as
well
as
the
athens
city
school
district
policy.
This
is
for
vaccinated
and
unvaccinated
people
in
following
the
center
for
disease
control's
guidelines.
A
Some
emergency
notifications
is
always
good
to
know,
especially
when
we
seem
to
be
cycling
in
and
out
of
of
some
significant
rain
events
of
late
use.
Mixel,
n-I-x-l-e,
mixel
nixle
is
a
national
service.
A
B
A
Rather,
your
area
code
keeps
you
up
to
date
with
all
kinds
of
relevant
information,
safety,
wise
local,
local
public
safety,
schools,
severe
weather
criminal
activities,
missing
persons,
etc
so
check
it
out.
The
other
thing
that
I
often
mention
and
worth
noting
is
the
athens
ohio
city
source
app.
You
know
again
it's
a
great
app
that
you
can
use
to
identify
potholes
damaged
street
signs,
traffic
lights
out
street
lights
out
litter
on
the
streets.
A
If
you
see
water
bubbling
up
out
of
the
city
street,
that
shouldn't
be
bubbling
up
out
of
the
street,
it's
good
to
use
for
that
as
well,
and
it
uses
your
gps
or
gps
locator
to
identify
where
that
site
is,
and
it
gets
it
straight
to
the
proper
department
so
easy
to
find.
You
can
go
to
apple
play
or
the
app
store
rather
or
google
play
google
play,
store
or
apple
app
store
and
just
put
in
athens,
ohio
city
source
app,
and
it
will
be
at
your
fingertips
for
reporting
things.
A
The
athens
city
county
health
department
pushed
out
an
announcement
earlier,
and
it
was
basically
that
hospitals
across
the
state
of
ohio
are
becoming
or
continuing
to
see
more
and
more
increases
in
the
covet.
19
cases
and
patients
coming
in
ohio
hospitals
are
feeling
the
strain
of
the
increase
in
patients
along
with
burnout
and
staff
shortages.
A
So
you
know
we
can,
as
I
mentioned
a
minute
ago,
we
can
all
do
our
part
to
support
hospitals
and
their
staffs
by
choosing
to
get
vaccinated.
Just
get
vaccinated.
A
Some
upcoming
meetings,
the
athens
municipal
arts
commission,
is
going
to
be
meeting
today
at
5
30
pm
it'll
be
in
the
athens
community
center
activity
room
a
if
you
choose
to
attend
in
person.
Please
make
sure
you've
got
a
face
covering
because
it
will
be
required
to
go
into
that
meeting.
A
The
shade
tree
commission
is
meeting
tomorrow
september,
9th
and
they'll
be
meeting
from
7
to
8
p.m.
That'll
be
in
athens
city,
council
chambers,
on
the
third
floor
of
the
city.
Building
the
preservation
board.
Regular
meeting
will
be
monday
september
13th
that
will
be
5
30
to
6
30
pm
and,
as
is
usual
at
the
city,
council,
will
be
meeting
the
13th
as
well
at
7,
00
p.m,
same
place
same
time,
the
same
location
same,
you
know
what
it'll
be
at
7
00
pm.
A
So
hopefully
you
can
join
in
again
athenians
stay,
safe,
be
smart,
get
the
vaccine
wear
face
coverings,
do
the
right
thing
and
thanks
for
tuning
in
hopefully
you'll
join
me
in
next
week
for
the
next
weekly
update
with
the
mayor.
Thank
you.
Kyle
take
care.
You
too.
