Description
Mayor's Press Conference - July 7, 2021
A
Good
afternoon
and
welcome,
I
should
say
once
again,
but
we
haven't
been
here
in
a
long
time
so
back
to
the
mayor's
press
conference,
and
it
feels
so
good
to
be
up
here
watching
the
b-roll
as
the
lead
into
this.
It
really
made
me
think
boy,
I
feel
old.
When
I
look
at
that
old
footage.
A
So
scott,
maybe
we
need
to
need
to
update
that
in
the
near
future,
and
since
it
is
back
to
the
weekly
press
conference,
I
will
be
reaching
out
to
our
local
media
and
making
sure
they
know
that,
so
they
can
come
up
here
if
they've
got
burning,
questions
or
issues
or
stories
that
they're
working
on
that
they
know
that
they
can
reach
out
to
me
and
attend.
The
press.
A
Conferences
like
they
used
to
another
thing
I
want
to
mention
is
that
all
of
the
boards
and
commissions
and
councils
for
the
city
of
athens.
They
are
all
in
person
now
as
of
july
1,
with
the
governor's
order
that
requires
everyone
to
go
back
to
in-person
meetings
when
we're
conducting
city
business.
A
That
will
be
happening
and
it
will
certainly
be
happening
when
city
council
comes
back
after
their
july
recess.
So
I
just
want
to
make
sure
everyone's
aware
of
that.
You
can
still
view
everything
on
this.
The
government
channel
at
10,
24
channel
1024
or
you
can
watch
them
on
facebook
or
other
modes
of
our
media
reach.
A
A
couple
things
from
engineering
and
public
works
that
I
want
to
bring
to
everyone's
attention
that
stimpson
avenue
intersection
closures
this
week
of
july
5th,
with
trucco
construction.
A
Closure
again
will
be
in
place
from
7
a.m,
to
6
p.m,
and
also-
and
that's
july,
7th,
through
july,
8th
and
july
7th,
through
july,
9th
stimpton
avenue
and
north
cornwell
street
closure
will
be
in
place
daily
again
7
a.m
to
6
p.m.
So
keep
that
in
mind,
I
know
there's
a
lot
going
on
down
there.
A
I
also
want
to
remind
people
that
all
the
businesses
are
open
on
the
stimpson
avenue
corridor
and
I
really
encourage
people
to
to
frequent
all
the
businesses
from
the
pharmacy
to
china
fortune
to
ambassador
to
visit
a
market.
All
those
are
open.
So
please
keep
that
in
mind.
Bellavino
is
still
open
down
there,
they're
all
open,
hawking
valley
bank.
A
So
please
remember
to
go
down
there.
The
roadway
is
open.
It
is
one
way
still
as
it
will
be
for
the
entire
construction
process
to
where
the
westbound
trap,
there'll
always
be
westbound
traffic
flow
through
stimson
avenue,
it'll
just
be
changing
from
one
side
to
the
next
over
time.
A
Another
thing
to
bring
up
is
that
the
city
is
going
to
be
power,
washing
the
entire
parking
garage
and
that'll
be
taking
place
july
11th
through
the
16th,
we're
going
to
be
power,
washing
all
the
decks
of
the
parking
garage
to
clean.
It
up
also
doing
a
lot
of
our
preventive
maintenance
in
the
parking
garage.
A
So
keep
that
in
mind
the
power
washing
will
start
on
the
11th
beginning
at
7.
00
am,
and
it
will
include
the
top
two
floors
power
washing
will
take
place
monday
through
friday,
as
I
just
indicated,
it'll
be
11
pm
and
end
at
7
am
to
get
this
done,
so
we're
hoping
to
kind
of
do
a
full
court
press
on
getting
the
parking
garage,
cleaned
up
and
power
washed
other
things
to
bring
up.
A
The
position
operates
a
computer
system
for
the
parking
enforcement
division
and
also
serves
as
cashier
and
receptionist
for
the
park
parking
enforcement
division.
So,
if
you're
interested
in
that
it
starts
as
pay
grade
two
and
with
a
starting
hourly
rate
of
14.40.
A
This
is
a
classified
service
for
the
city
and
requires
a
six-month
probationary
period
and
is
covered
by
the
fair
labor
labor
acts
standards
acts.
A
We
are
also
looking
for
a
building
projects,
technician
the
building
projects,
technician,
performs
general
maintenance
and
repairs
for
the
city,
buildings
and
structures
under
the
supervision
of
the
building
maintenance
supervisor.
Here
in
the
city,
the
position
is
classified
service
in
the
city
again
same
thing,
six
month,
probationary
period,
and
it
is
covered
by
the
fair
labor
standards
act.
A
The
third
job
is
a
is
for
two
full-time
plant
operator
trainees.
One
vacancy
is
at
the
water
treatment
plant.
The
other
vacancy
is
at
the
water
waste
water
treatment
plant,
so
are
two
vitally
important
plants.
The
positions
will
operate,
maintain
zero
light
softening
plant
or
activated
sludge
wastewater
treatment
plant.
They
include
operations
of
equipment
associated
with
the
treatment
plants
and
pumping
stations.
A
They
are
full-time
positions
and
the
shifts
for
these
positions
are
variable
and
will
include
working
nights,
weekends
and
holidays.
A
A
Some
other
things
I
want
to
share
that
next
week,
the
14th
and
the
15th
of
july
14th.
I
believe
it
will
begin
in
the
morning
and
run
through
the
afternoon
and
then
on.
The
15th
it
will
be
half
day
is
the
ohio
town
gown
summit.
A
This
is
the
fifth
annual
we
didn't
have
one
last
year,
so
there
is
a
skipping
years,
but
that's
the
fifth
ohio
town
gown
summit,
the
first
one
started
six
years
ago
up
at
the
pickerington
ohio
university
campus,
it
was
initiated
by
the
city
of
athens
but
reaching
out
to
college
towns
all
across
the
state
of
ohio.
A
The
second
one
was
in
oxford
home
to
miami
university
university
of
ohio.
The
third
one
was
up
at
bowling,
green
and
bowling
green
state
university,
and
then
the
fourth
one
two
years
ago
was
at
kent
and
kent
state
university.
A
So
this
year
it
is
athens
and
the
ohio
university
and
I
would
encourage
people
to
go
and
you
can
look
at
the
agenda
and
hopefully
you
might
consider
registering
because
there's
a
lot
of
great
information
that
is
going
to
come
out
of
this
virtual
conference.
I
should
stress
that
it
will
be
a
fully
online
conference,
but
you
can
check
it
out
by
going
to
ohio,
gown,
ohio,
town
gown.
Let
me
repeat
that
it
is
ohiotowngown.com,
so
check
it
out.
A
In
zanesville,
dr
it's
mayor,
don
mason
was
instrumental
in
getting
a
utility
paying
kiosk,
which
is
pretty
fascinating,
and
something
that
I
would
like
to
explore
here
in
the
city
of
athens
to
where,
if
possible,
get
a
kiosk
to
where
people
could
pay
their
utility
bills
at
any
time
and
not
have
to
be
reliant
on
coming
to
the
city,
building
between
7,
30
and
4
in
the
afternoon.
A
A
I
engage
with
mayor
mason
of
zanesville,
quite
often
so
I'll
get
more
intel
on
that.
The
other
thing,
it's
always
good
to
remind
people
that
the
city
of
athens,
we
use
the
athens
city,
athens,
ohio
city
source,
app
again,
the
athens
ohio
city
source
app,
it's
great
for
being
able
to
report
everything
from
a
street
light
that
is
out
or
non-functioning
to
sidewalk
obstructions
to
litter,
to
potholes
to
you
name
it.
A
So
please
use
the
athens
ohio
city
source
app
because
it
really
helps
us
in
identifying
quickly
where
there
are
issues
here
in
the
city
of
athens,
some
other
things
to
report
to
everyone.
Some
upcoming
meetings,
the
athens,
affordable
housing
commission,
is
going
to
be
meeting
today
at
well.
They
already
met
so
so
much
for
that
one
they
met
at
noon.
I'm
sure
it
was
a
great
meeting,
the
athens
city,
sustainability,
commission.
They
will
also
be
meeting
and
that
one
is
at
six
pm
six
to
seven
pm
in
the
front
conference.
A
The
preservation
board
regular
meeting
will
be
monday
july
12th,
that
is
5
30
to
6,
30
p.m,
and
the
board
of
zoning
appeals
will
meet
tuesday
july
13
7
to
8
pm,
and
that
is
in
council
chambers.
Preservation
board
will
be
in
the
mayor's
conference
room
the
front
conference
room.
You
may
have
also
noticed
that
I'm
missing
someone
up
here
today,
kyle
johansen,
is
I'm
sure
enjoying
himself
out
in
new
mexico.
A
A
Today's
high
is
going
to
be
90
degrees
about
20
chance
of
rain
into
tonight,
we're
looking
at
a
high
of
about
or
a
low
of
67
degrees,
with
a
58
chance
of
percept
going
into
tomorrow,
we're
looking
at
a
high
of
80
and
a
low
of
64
with
possible
thunderstorms
friday,
a
high
of
80
and
a
low
of
60,
partially
cloudy
about
24
chance
of
precipitation,
saturday
78
degrees,
with
a
low
of
62,
with
scattered
thunderstorms
into
sunday,
70
or
81
degrees
as
the
high
and
a
low
of
66
degrees
with
scattered
thunderstorms
into
monday.
A
That's
all
I
really
have
for
today.
You
know
make
sure
that
you
take
advantage
of
the
city
pool.
A
I
know
that
with
this,
these
warmer
temps
that
it's
a
great
place
to
go
and
relax
and
cool
off
after
a
long
day
at
work
or
taking
your
kids
there
during
the
midday
to
enjoy
and
giving
them
some.
Some
much
needed
activities
that
they
can
partake
in
so
take
advantage
of
the
city
swimming
pool.
A
It's
not
an
expensive,
not
all
that
expensive
to
get
a
season
pass,
even
though
we're
you
know
pretty
close
to
halfway
into
the
season,
but
keep
that
in
mind,
and
one
last
thing
to
share
with
everybody
that
starting
this
friday.
It
is
ohio
brew
week
here
in
the
great
city
of
athens,
ohio
and
it
will
be
running
through
the
following
saturday.
I
believe
it
is
saturday
the
17th
that
that'll
be
wrapping
up.
A
There
won't
be
a
last
call
activity
on
court
street,
nor
will
they
be
the
first
call,
but
there
are
some
events
that
you'll
be
seeing
around
the
uptown
area.
A
lot
of
the
bars
will
be
carrying
a
lot
of
the
different
micro
brews
from
across
the
state
of
ohio,
so
make
sure
you
get
out
and
enjoy
some
of
the
the
crafty
craft
beers
that
are
being
created
out
there
in
the
great
state
of
ohio
other
than
that.
A
There
will
not
be
a
press
conference
next
wednesday,
but
there
will
be
the
wednesday
after
that.
So
we'll
have
a
week
of
respite
from
hearing
from
me,
but
we'll
be
back
again.
The
following
week
with
the
next
weekly
press
conference
with
the
mayor,
take
care
and
have
a.
