Description
Mayor's Weekly Update - January 20, 2021
A
Afternoon
and
welcome
once
again
to
the
weekly
update
with
the
mayor
and
with
kyle
johansen
kyle
give
it
to
us.
You
know
it's
been.
It's
been
in
the
mid
30s
for
the
past
several
days
and
even
colder
at
night.
What
what
do
we
have
in
store
for
us
over
the
next
seven
days.
B
So
today
we
look
for
partly
cloudy
skies.
A
high
of
35
and
above
26
was
mostly
clear
tomorrow,
partly
cloudy
high
of
46
degrees,
tomorrow
night's
mostly
clear
of
low
26
friday,
mostly
cloudy
high
of
34
friday
night,
partly
cloudy
low
21
saturday,
sunny
high
of
33
saturday
nights
partly
cloudy
low
21
sunday
afternoon,
showers,
high
of
40.
B
sunday
night
showers,
12
34
monday
rain,
high
of
40.
rainfall
around
a
half
an
inch
monday
night
rain
and
snow
12,
29
snow
accumulating
five,
eight
inches
tuesday,
partly
cloudy
high
of
19
degrees,
tuesday
nights
mostly
clear
well
about
15
and
next
wednesday,
probably
caught
a
high
of
26
and
a
little
26
with
snow
showers.
Late.
A
Cold
cold
coming
so
what
a
pleasant
day
it
today
has
been,
albeit
cold.
I
think
it's
currently.
What
is
it?
Kyle,
36
37
degrees?
Maybe
it
was
sunny
all
morning
long.
It
was
great
watching
the
two
individuals
standing
behind
you
during
on
inauguration
day,
which
was
today,
I
watched
it,
and
it
was
certainly
nice
for
the
inauguration
as
as
challenging
as
it
was
to
kind
of
completely
reorchestrate
an
inauguration,
but
for
it
to
be
a
sunny
day
was
really
quite
nice
to
see
in
washington
dc
kyle.
A
B
B
A
Weeks
and
those
the
numbers
are
still
staggering
to
to
think
about,
you
know
to
think
that
we've
surpassed
400
000
deaths
here
in
the
united
states,
which
is
more
deaths
than
than
we
incurred
during
world
war
ii,
which
is
again
staggering.
A
B
A
Nice
all
right,
hey,
kyle,
thank
you
once
again
for
all
things,
weather
covet
and
sports
in
the
city
of
athens,
and
I
I'm
sure
you
enjoyed
watching
the
inauguration
as
much
as
I
did.
It
was
was
great
great
to
observe
updates.
I
want
to
start
with
the
vaccine
here
in
athens.
A
A
Next
week,
rather
the
25th,
it
will
be
individuals,
age,
75,
plus,
and
individuals
with
congenital
and
developmental
disabilities
will
be
eligible
for
the
vaccine
and
then
the
week
after
that
it
will
be
individuals,
age,
70
plus,
as
well
as
k
through
12
teachers,
so
that
they
can
continue
on
with
hybrid
and
face-to-face
instruction
and
then
the
week
after
that
will
be
individuals,
age,
65,
plus,
you
know
I
am
going
to
continue
to
press
that
that
vaccine
get
here
into
athens
county,
but
I
know
the
health
department
is
working
on
that
worth
mentioning
as
well
that
the
locations
in
which
the
admit
the
vaccine
is
being
administered,
at
least
the
agencies,
certainly
the
athens
city
county
health
department.
A
A
A
Hopewell
health
centers
in
nelsonville
is
another
site
in
the
county:
kroger
pharmacy
on
east
state
street
kroger
pharmacy
in
nelsonville,
kroger,
pharmacy
in
trimble,
and
then
shriver's
pharmacy
and
wellness,
which
is
on
west
union
33
or
310
west
union
and
then
also
shriver's
pharmacy
in
nelsonville.
So
those
are
the
locations.
I
encourage
you
to
reach
out
to
any
of
those
and
to
see
one
if
you
qualify
and
two
to
get
on
their
list,
because
there
is
a
a
timing
factor
in
which
you
need
to
come
in
for
the
vaccine.
A
If
you
are
eligible,
I
want
to
mention
that
on
last
evening,
at
6,
30
and
then
the
the
week
before
last
week,
we
had
a
pinning
ceremony
for
two
firefighters
here
in
the
city
of
athens.
A
The
firefighter
who
was
pinned
last
week
is
austin
smith,
austin
smith
completed
his
probationary
successfully
completed
his
probation
period
with
the
city
of
athens
and
is
now
a
fully-fledged
firefighter.
I
hope
I
didn't
say
police
officer
firefighter
in
the
city
of
athens
and
then
also
adam
kessler.
A
Adam
is
also
a
firefighter
who
completed
his
probationary
period
and
was
pinned
at
6
30
yesterday
evening.
So
congratulations
to
both
of
our
firefighters
for
successfully
completing
their
probationary
period
items
around
the
city,
the
stimson
avenue
project,
which
I
mentioned
at
council
tuesday
evening
last
night.
That
is
a
project
that
is
underway
in
terms
of
utility
replacement.
A
The
sanitary
sewer
line
down
stimpson
avenue
is
what
is
going
on
right
now.
Trucker
construction
is
the
lead
on
that.
So
that
is
what
you're
seeing
that
will
hopefully
be
done
by
the
end
of
this
month
by
the
29th
and
then
what's
referring
to
is
phase
one
and
phase
two
phase.
A
For
again
a
complete
overhaul
of
the
north
side,
the
there
will
always
be
one
lane
of
traffic
flow
through
that
area,
but
it
will
always
be
westbound,
it'll,
be
coming
off
of
the
stimson
bridge
and
around
the
stimson
avenue
roundabout,
whether
it's
the
south
side
or
the
north
side.
But
you
will
be
flagged
through
that
region
through
that
street.
A
The
eastbound
will
be
detoured
on
east
state
street,
and
again
I
mentioned
this
last
night.
I'm
going
to
mention
it
again,
and
that
is
that
you
know
the
construction
can
experience
some
delays
during
weather,
major
weather
events
as
they're
continuing
on
like
a
lot
of
our
projects.
But
at
this
point
in
time
the
project
is
slated
to
be
completed
by
october,
the
end
of
october.
I
believe
so
more
to
come
on
that
as
it
as
they
progress
on
that
project,
and
I
will
certainly
keep
you
updated
christmas
tree
pickup.
A
It's
still
going
on.
So
if
you
still
have
your
christmas
tree
or
you
drug
it
around
to
this,
your
side,
yard
or
somewhere
just
know
that
you
can
reach
out
to
engineering
and
public
works
at
592-3343
and
schedule
a
time
to
have
that
christmas
tree
picked
up.
You
need
to
place
it
at
your
curb
in
front
of
your
home,
and
the
city
will
come
by
and
pick
that
up
and
remove
that
for
you
again,
it's
a
free
service
and
encourage
people
to
take
advantage
of
that
arts
parks
and
recreation.
A
Just
as
a
reminder
to
everybody
with
the
new
year
comes
their
new
year
new,
you
rate
membership
membership
rate.
This
is
you
get
three
months
of
membership
for
65,
which
is
a
25
savings.
It's
a
limited
time
deal,
and
it's
only
going
to
last
until
the
end
of
january
so
run
down
january.
30Th
is
the
end
of
that
program.
A
Upcoming
meetings,
we
have
several-
the
commission
on
disabilities
will
be
meeting
this
evening
at
5.
30..
A
The
recreation
advisory
board
will
be
meeting
tomorrow,
also
at
5
30
and
those
can
be
people
can
can
view
those
live
on
the
city's
website
via
the
government
channel,
as
well
as
I
believe,
ryan
and
scott.
Please
correct
me
if
I'm
wrong,
but
I'll
also
viewed
on
our
facebook
city's
facebook
page
so
check
those
out.
The
other
thing
is
that
the
25th
of
january
from
5
30
to
6
45,
we
will
be
having
the
mayor
and
department
heads
state
of
the
city
address
again,
that's
going
to
be
5,
30
p.m.
A
On
monday
january
25th,
and
immediately
following
that
at
7,
00
pm
will
be
at
the
city
council
committee's
meeting,
which
will
be
taking
place
so
with
the
state
of
the
city
address.
It
will
be
all
my
department
heads
speaking
briefly
on
accomplishments
of
2020,
as
well
as
what
is
going
on
what
can
be
expected
with
during
2021
and
into
2022
with
projects
activities.
Things
of
that
nature-
and
I
will
also
be
speaking
to
the
challenges
experienced
in
2021
and
my
vision,
moving
forward
in
2021
and
beyond.
So
hopefully
you
will
jump
on.
A
If
you're
have
questions
about
things
going
on
citywide,
so
I
invite
you
all
to
watch
that
other
than
that
I
don't
have
anything
more
to
share
other
than
it
was
wonderful
to
observe
a
as
is
typical,
with
any
inauguration
a
historic
event
unfold
before
us,
so
always
delightful
to
watch.
Hopefully
you
got
to
watch
it
as
well.
I'm
sure
it
will
be
on
heavy
rotation
on
a
lot
of
different
tv
stations
across
the
nation,
so
hopefully
you'll
get
a
chance
to
see
it.
A
If
you
haven't
seen
it,
I
want
to
wish
you
all
the
best.
Please
remember,
to
stay
safe.
Please
remember
to
use
your
face
covering
when
out
in
public
or
going
into
any
business
here
in
the
city
of
athens,
keep
up
the
social
distancing,
and
please
remember
you
know,
to
wash
your
hands
frequently
just
continue
to
do
the
right
things
to
keep
our
community
as
safe
as
we
possibly
can
take
care,
and
please
join
me
again
next
week
for
the
next.
