Mayor's Weekly Update - May 26, 2021
A
Good
afternoon
and
welcome
once
again
to
the
athens
weekly
update
with
the
mayor
and
with
kyle
johansen
kyle
walk
us
through
what
we
can
expect
for
the
next
four
or
next
seven
days
really
not
four
days.
I
know
it's
gonna
be
a
cool
one
on
saturday
at
least
that's
what
I'm
tracking
but
tell
us
what
we
have
ahead
in
store
for
us.
B
B
B
memorial
day,
probably
cloudy.
I
have
76
monday
night,
probably
cloudy
well
51,
tuesday
quality.
I
have
79
tuesday,
mostly
cloudy
low
53
and
next
wednesday,
cloudy
high
of
81
and
low
57
was
shot
early
chronovirus
cases
there
are
now
987
new
positive
chronovirus
cases
in
the
state
of
ohio.
In
the
last
24
hours
brings
a
total
of
1
million
97
000
cases,
19
000
deaths
nationwide.
B
A
And
ryan
has
just
brought
up
for
everyone
viewing
today
the
vaccination
appointments,
coveted
19,
where
you
can
set
up
an
appointment
by
calling
592-4431
again
math
and
zero
code,
and
the
vaccinations
will
be
given
at
the
athens
city
county
health
department,
which
is
located
at
278
west
union
street.
A
So
this
is
great
currently
offering
pfizer
for
ages
12
and
up,
which
is
also
great
in
the
jj
for
18
plus.
So
keep
that
in
mind.
Please
go
out
and
get
the
vaccine
simple!
A
A
All
right,
thank
you,
kyle.
I
don't
recall.
I
think
we
had
three
new
cases
of
covet
19
kind
of
going
back
to
code,
real
quick,
but
our
total
actives
was
still,
I
believe,
34
active
cases
in
athens,
county.
A
A
So
speaking
of
of
actions
going
on
in
the
city
on
monday
night,
athens
city
council
amended
the
face
covering
ordinance
for
the
city
of
athens
to
include
in
the
exemption
section
or
the
exception
section
of
the
ordinance,
and
that
is
that
in
following
the
cdc
guidelines
that
if
individuals
are
fully
vaccinated,
that
they
do
not
need
to
wear
a
face
covering
when
out
in
public
outdoors
or
in
a
business
that
is
open
to
the
public.
Now,
businesses
can
still
require
people
to
wear
face
covering
regardless
of
whether
you're
vaccinated
or
not.
A
That
is
their
prerogative,
but
just
wanted
to
make
sure
that
was
out
there.
The
we
all
know
that
this
weekend
or
hope
we
do
that
this
weekend
is
memorial
day
weekend
memorial
day
being
monday.
So
with
that
comes
a
one-day
delay
when
it
comes
to
our
trash
and
recycling.
Pickup
also
worth
mentioning
that
there
will
be
a
small
memorial
day
event
at
the
west
union
cemetery
at
11
a.m.
A
If
anyone
is
interested
in
coming,
I
will
be
proclaiming
monday
as
memorial
day
weekend,
so
keep
that
in
mind,
but
again
the
one-day
delay
of
trash
and
recycling.
So
if
your
pickup
day
was
monday,
it'll
move
to
tuesday
and
so
on
and
so
forth,
the
it's
always
good
to
remind
people
about
the
athens
ohio
city
source.
This
is
our
app
to
where
you
can
use
it
to
effectively
report
out
things
like
litter,
potholes
graffiti,
you
name
it
a
street
light,
that's
out
whatever
it
is.
A
You
can
use
that
and
we,
when
the
appropriate
department
will
be
on
top
of
that
you'll,
also
get
responses
that
your
message
has
been
sent
and
follow
up
information
in
terms
of
what
has
been
done
to
remedy
the
problem.
So
please
use
it.
The
other
thing
that's
worth
reminding
us
so
again,
scott
and
ryan.
Thank
you
for
bringing
this
up
is
emergency
notifications.
You
know
you
can
use
nixle
the
city
of
athens.
A
A
And
you
can
also
sign
up
for
text
alerts.
I
think
you
can
modify
it
for
whatever
it
is.
You
want
to
be
notified
about
so
use
nixle,
especially
as
we're
entering
into
you
know
that
time
of
year,
where
we
can
have
you
know,
storm
cells
that
float
over.
You
know
it's
not
uncommon
for
us
to
have
some
high
water
events,
because
of
rainfall
and
nixel
will
alert
you
to
those
types
of
things.
A
Arts,
parks
and
rec.
Believe
it
or
not,
the
pool
will
be
opening
on
the
29th
yay,
so
the
city
pool
is
going
to
be
opening.
There
is
some
information
for
you
about.
The
pool
concession
stands
will
offer
a
bunch
of
pre-packaged
snacks
and
drinks.
Things
of
that
nature.
A
If
you
want
more
information
about
the
pool,
certainly
call
592-3325
there's
the
hours
that
they
will
be
operational.
I
I
do
need
to
point
out
that
until
june
2nd,
the
pool
will
have
two
sessions
a
day.
There
will
be
a
morning
session
and
an
afternoon
session
and
with
those
sessions
the
pool
will
also
be
operating
at
35
of
its
total
capacity
following
the
guidelines
that
are
still
in
place
with
the
state
health
orders.
A
So
keep
that
in
mind
that
there
will
be
limited
capacity
going
into
the
first
few
days
of
the
pool
being
open
so,
but
it
will
be
open
after
having
to
spend
a
summer
without
it
being
open
the
special
hours
from
may
1st
or
may
29th
through
june.
1St
will
be.
A
A
Now,
let's
see
upcoming
meetings,
we've
got
the
athens
community
relations
commission,
which
will
be
meeting
tuesday
june
1st
at
noon.
The
board
of
zoning
appeals
will
be
meeting
june,
1st
at
7
pm,
and
the
athens
sustainability
commission
will
be
meeting
june,
2nd
at
6
00
p.m.
Athens
city
council
will
not
be
meeting
monday
night
because
well
they
they,
even
if
it
were
moved
to
tuesday.
That
won't
be
happening.
A
It
is
the
fifth
monday
of
the
month.
Another
thing
worth
mentioning
to
people
who
are
watching
is
that
july
is
the
month
in
which
city
council
goes
on
recess,
so
kind
of
getting
that
out
there
early
to
to
know
that
if
your
thing
is
to
tune
into
city
council
on
monday
nights,
you
won't
be
seeing
any
in
july
because
they
will
be
on
recess,
as
I
mentioned,
really
don't
have
anything
else
for
you
today.
A
Just
as
a
reminder,
you
know
covet
19
is
still
out
there
we're
not
out
of
the
pandemic
yet
so
please
be
careful
when
you're
out
and
about
and
be
conscious
of
others
around
you.
So
having
said
that,
I
hope
that
you
have
a
great
rest
of
your
week
and
hopefully
you'll
tune
in.
