Description
Mayor's Press Conference - December 13, 2022
A
Thank
you
good
afternoon
and
welcome
once
again
to
the
weekly
update
with
the
mayor
and
Kyle
Johansen
Kyle
I
know
you
keep
pushing
out
and
I
get
it.
I
love
it
that
it's
looking
like,
possibly
a
white
Christmas
this
year
here
in
Athens.
Yes,
it
is,
but
until
we
get
to
Christmas
what
is
the
weather
going
to
be
like
for
the
next
seven
days.
B
B
B
the
next
one
said
we
got
probably
quiet,
Skies,
High
39
and
next
Wednesday
night.
We
got
watching
a
potential
of
a
winter
storm
just
in
time
for
Christmas
Eve
level.
31.,
then
after
Wednesday
get
ready
for
the
the
poor
Brothers
coming.
Some
of
these
models
are
showing
wind
chills
here
could
be
in
a
negative
seven
degree
range
by
Christmas
in
the
morning
Eve.
B
B
We
got
RSV
and
the
flu,
so
we
got
the
triple
demek
now,
while
other
states
are
now
reissuing
their
masking
doors,
because
it's
not
a
cover,
it's
the
fluid
right
now
several
states
are
in
the
high
risk
of
Hulu
and
RSV
and
RSV
viruses
right
now,
and
also
some
of
the
states
are
seeing
the
winter
search
of
code
right
now.
Ohio
is
not
seen
theirs,
yet
we're
still
leveling
off,
which
is
actually
a
good
sign.
B
In
sports,
we've
lost
Washington
against
Cincinnati,
from
44
to
77
and
I
went
to
Detroit.
We
lost
the
championship
game,
but
they
will
be
going
to
that
that
Barstool
Arizona
ball,
which
is
in
Tucson
Arizona
the
desert
Southwest,
which
actually
that's
a
better
spot
for
it,
because
it's
gonna
be
a
lot
warmer
down
at
least
like
three
to
four
degrees
from
warmer
and
the
winter
than
is
here
in
the
winter
time.
A
Got
it
on
here
bam
there
you
have
it
Kyle
and
Rufus
here
it
is,
and
that's
a
great
photo
they're
all
great
photos,
there's
Kyle
with
with
Rufus
yep
and
not
related
to
a
mascot
At
All
by
any
search
the
imagination,
Council
wrapped
up
Monday
night
last
Council
session
of
the
year.
A
So
now
they
are
on
their
holiday
break,
got
a
lot
of
things
accomplished
as
we
look
forward.
Most
importantly,
the
city's
budget
was
approved
and
we
have
it
in
place
for
2023
as
well
as
redoing
the
mix
to
where
we
decided
to
take
a
half
a
percentage
of
the
general
funds
that
come
into
the
general
fund
general
fund
Revenue,
as
well
as
half
a
percent
from
streets
and
apply
it
to
Recreation
the
recreation
fund.
A
Knowing
that
there's
certainly
a
little
extra
need,
as
we
look
forward
into
2023,
and
then
we
will
possibly
move
some
of
the
percentages
around
again
when
we
start
our
budget
process
for
2024,
but
not
to
get
ahead
of
ourselves.
Some
other
things
that
we're
going
to
likely
be
seeing
in
the
coming
year
is
groundbreaking
for
the
new
Fire
Station
headquarters,
at
least.
Hopefully
at
this
point
in
time
we
still
have
more
design
engineering,
that's
going
on
with
that.
A
We
have
yet
to
put
it
out
to
bid
that
will
occur
next
year
as
well
in
the
early
part,
hopefully
around
February
and
groundbreaking
sometime
after
that.
So
that's
exciting
to
know
that
the
fire
station
headquarters
is
slowly
yet
steadily
moving
forward
as
we
plan
for
that
big
project,
some
happenings
going
on
around
the
city
in
the
world
of
Arts,
Parks
and
Recreation.
A
There
is
a
registration,
they
have
a
QR
code.
You
can
probably
find
it
on
the
city's
website
or
down
at
the
community
center
or
Recreation
Arts,
Parks
and
Rec
on
the
website
and
start
logging.
Your
hours,
you
know
they
they
will
accept
I'm
logging,
your
miles
rather
they're,
allowing
for
the
mileage
count
to
go
back
if
I'm
not
mistaken,
Scott
on
this
one
back
to
December
1..
So
if
you've
been
tracking
your
miles,
I
know
that
you're
you're
walking
you're
a
walker
even.
A
A
Oh,
they
have
some
drawings
too
they're
having
drawings
at
the
first
675
miles
total
miles
a
second
drawing
at
13.50
total
miles,
so
1
350
and
then
a
third
drawing
and
what
are
they
drawing
for
I?
Don't
have
a
clue,
but
anyway
I
guess.
Apparently
they
have
some
prizes
for
you.
So
if
the
prizes
don't
incentivize
you,
then
maybe
your
own
health
will
incentivize
you
to
be
a
part
of
this
I
I
talk
about
this
all
the
time
and
continue
to
strongly
encourage
citizens
here
in
Athens
and
even
Beyond
to
download
nixel.
A
You
know
it's
easy,
but
I
was
gonna
say,
but
before
you
do
make
sure
you
download
the
City
Source
app
nixel.
So
there
you
have
it
it's
easy
to
do.
You
can
sign
up
by
texting
our
ZIP
code,
45701
to
888-777
and
it'll,
set
it'll.
Give
you
information
on
all
kinds
of
things,
weather
alerts,
it'll,
give
you
Amber,
Alerts
it'll,
give
you
all
kinds
of
interesting
stuff
that
you
may
want
to
be
kept
in
the
know
on
it
gives
you
updates
on
the
schools.
A
You
know
as
we're
heading
into
the
snow
season
and
I
know
that
our
school
bus
drivers
really
get
challenged
with
some
of
the
roadways
out
in
the
county.
For
those
who
attend
Athens,
City,
School
District
and
are
coming
from
millfield
or
other
areas
where
it's
it
can
be
a
real
challenge.
You
know
what
in
the
city
might
be
an
inch
or
two
doesn't
seem
bad.
You
get
an
inch
or
two
or
more
out
in
the
county,
roads
and
the
Township
roads,
and
it's
a
real
challenge
for
the
bus
drivers.
A
So
they
often
will
have
a
delay
or
they
will
completely
closed
the
school
I
think
Dr,
Tom
Gibbs
does
a
great
job
of
calling
those
shots.
I'm
glad
it's
him
and
not
me,
but
you
know
use
nixel
to
check
that
stuff
out.
The
other
thing
is
the
Athens
Ohio
City
Source
app
this
you
can
find
at
Google
Play.
You
can
find
it
at
the
Apple
App
Store.
This
is
so
immensely
important
for
our
different
departments
that
may
be
responsible
for
road
maintenance
or
water
or
sewer
lines
or
storm
drains
or
litter
control.
A
All
those
different
things
you
can
use
City
Source
app
to
report
things
that
you
might
notice
that
just
don't
look
right.
You
can
also
report
to
the
police
department
if
you
see
suspicious
activities
or
identify
something
in
the
city
that
has
been
tagged
which
knock
on
wood
has
been
happening.
In
my
opinion,
less
and
less
lately,
I,
don't
know
if
it's
due
to
the
weather
or
what,
but
we
seem
to
have
seen
a
downtrend
in
tagging
throughout
the
city
and
that's
a
good
thing
in
my
opinion.
A
But
if
you
do
seize
tagging,
you
can
also
report
that
and
that'll
go
directly
to
the
police
department
and
or
the
service
safety
director
Deputy
service
safety
director,
but
it'll
get
routed
to
where
it
needs
to
go
so
download
it
again.
You
can
reach
you
can
download
this
from
the
Apple
play
or
I'm
sorry,
Apple,
App,
Store
or
Google
Play,
and
and
have
that
to
where
you
can
report
things
that
you
see
that
just
don't
look
right.
A
The
Columbia,
Gas
Company
is
still
working
over
on
North
Shafer,
with
their
gas
line.
Replacement.
I
was
just
driving
by
earlier
today
and
notice
that
down
there
by
bee
yard
and
West
State
Street
that
they
were
flagging
and
directing
traffic
around
where
that
activity
is
going
on.
So
just
be
cognizant
of
that
and
speaking
of
bee
yard
I
know
some
people
will
pronounce
it
byard
and
others
pronounce
it
be
yard,
I
call
it
B
yard,
because
it
likely
was
the
site
of
the
railroad,
a
yard
and
B
yard.
A
So,
but
you
know
if
anybody
wants
to
call
in
or
text
me
or
email
me,
and
let
me
know
what
you
know
about
bee
yard
versus
buyer
to
be
wonderful,
be
fun
to
know
little
factoids
leaf
pickup.
This
is
the
last
week
for
leaf
pickup
December
12th
through
the
16th,
so
this
Friday
make
sure
you
call
down
to
engineering
and
public
works.
If
you
would
like
to
have
the
vac
truck
come
by
and
suck
up
the
leaves
from
your
front
curb
or
Road
Frontage,
but
it
will
cease
to
be
happening
after
the
16th.
A
A
The
season
I
want
to
remind
people
about
the
Christmas
tree
pickup
as
well,
which
will
be
taking
place
and
maybe
in
our
next
weekly
update,
we
will
have
the
information
to
provide
to
you
on
the
Christmas
tree
pickup,
as
that
rolls
out
a
couple
meetings
that
are
going
to
be
happening
today
today
is
Wednesday
at
5.
30
is
the
Athens
Municipal,
Arts,
commission
and
Scott.
A
That's
going
to
be
happening
right
here
in
the
council
chambers
correct
they
will
be
streaming
live
or
on
Facebook
or
whatever,
but
that's
5,
30
to
7
P.M
here
in
council
chambers
open
to
the
public.
Actually
I
was
wrong.
Well,
I
was
wrong
on
the
the
the
date
that
is
tomorrow
so
tomorrow,
Thursday
tonight,
at
5,
30
is
AMAC
is
the
Athens
Municipal
Arts
commission,
and
that
is
at
Arts
West.
A
A
It
is
a
Tuesday.
It
is
a
Tuesday
because
the
second
is
January
2nd.
Is
the
the
cities
recognized
holiday
for
Fourth,
of
July
for
Fourth
of
July
for
the
first
first
of
January
for
New
Year's
man
I'm
all
over
the
place
today,
and
so
keep
that
in
mind.
I
would
imagine,
although
don't
hold
me
to
this,
there
will
probably
be
an
HRC
trash
delay
on
that
day
as
well,
but
more
to
come
on
that.
A
A
A
Kyle
and
I
were
just
talking
about
this.
So
Athens
Hocking
recycling
will
have
a
delay
of
one
day
on
the
26th,
so
no
trash
hauling
on
the
26th.
So
there
will
be
a
one-day
delay
for
trash
hauling
thereafter.
So
again,
if
your
trash
pickup
is
normally
on
a
Tuesday
it'll
be
delayed
and
don't
put
out
your
stuff
until
Wednesday.
If
it's
Wednesday,
don't
put
it
out
until
Thursday.
A
And
a
safe
new
year
new
year,
yeah
have
a
have
a
safe
and
wonderful
holiday
weekend
weekends
as
we
move
forward,
and
we
will
have
a
press
conference
next
week
on
the
21st.
But
that
will
be
our
last
one
until
we
get
back
together
again.
