Description
Mayor's Press Conference - September 28, 2022
A
Good
afternoon
welcome
once
again
to
the
weekly
update
with
Kyle
Johansen
and
the
mayor,
Kyle
I
know,
there's
some
crazy
stuff
taking
place
in
Florida
and
I
understand
from
what
you've
been
sharing
that
we
may
be
experiencing
the
residual
of
that
later
on
this
week
or
yeah,
but
but
for
right.
Now
it's
not
too
bad
outside
nope.
B
Tomorrow
we
got
mostly
sunny.
Skies
have
67
low
41.
Friday,
mostly
sunny
skies
have
69
low
50.
Saturday,
watching
major
hurricane
Ian
rain,
High,
65,
low
51.,
Sunday
and
finally,
departing
more
showers
high
of
61
51.
The
back
side
of
the
end
might
come
back
in
on
Monday
afternoon
showers,
high
of
64.
low,
46.,
Tuesday,
probably
call
these
guys
high
of
66
low
44
and
next
Wednesday,
mostly
sunny
skies
high
of
69,
low,
47.
B
B
During
the
day
we'll
see
some
of
these
clouds
of
Ian
coming
in
the
National
main
event
of
Ian
comes
in
during
the
day,
Saturday
night
and
then
gone
mid-morning
on
Sunday
and
then
maybe
in
the
sun
in
the
afternoon
we
might
into
the
Northwest.
The
eye
which
is
the
eye
of
the
hurricane
is
the
halfway
point,
because
the
first
half
is
done
in
the
second,
so
I.
Actually,
if
you
still
have
left
to
go
for
the
second
side,
is
usually
divorced
in
the
first
half
of
those
of
this
hurricanes.
B
Which
12
years
ago
can
now
now
get
the
three
vac
boosters,
and
now
they
can
get
the
bivowin
code
booster.
Now
as
well,
flu
shots
are
now
available,
and
in
sports
we
got
a
pep
rally
tonight.
A
software
near
Nelson
don't
have
free
pizza,
free
food
from
Uptown,
some
of
my
chicken
and
waffles
and
I
have
DJ
from
six
to
seven
meet
the
sock
and
field
hockey.
B
We
got
soccer
tomorrow
at
four
battle:
the
bricks
Miami
at
4
P.M,
it's
field
hockey
at
two
on
Friday
and
it's
also
fall
break
and
then
Sunday
Gulf
View
hockey
at
noon.
Train
golden
and
at
least
Ian
will
be
departing
by
around
that
time
frame
and
then
homecoming
kicks
off
less
than
a
week.
From
now
very.
A
Kyle's
birthday
week
so
again
big
happy
birthday
to
you
going.
B
A
They
all
know
you
really
well.
What
are
you
talking
about?
You
know
Brutus
wrong,
wrong.
Mascot,
yeah
Rufus
knows
you,
you
know
I,
think
Rufus
can
smell
you
coming
and
he's
prepared
every
time
you're
around,
because
it's
you're
always
there
with
Rufus.
You
know
to
Kyle's
point
about
the
covid-19
boosters
and
all
that
stuff.
I,
just
yesterday
went
down
to
the
Athens
City
County
Health
Department,
with
my
wife
Connie,
and
we
both
got
not
only
our
bivariant
vaccine.
A
A
It's
strongly
encouraged
that
you
mix
up
what
it
is
you're
using
between
Pfizer
and
moderna,
so
I
got
Pfizer
as
my
third
booster
and
got
my
flu
shot
all
at
one
time
they
weren't
combined
one
in
each
arm,
so
you
know
make
sure
you
get
out
and
and
get
your
booster
and
don't
forget
about
the
flu
and
if
you're
age,
50
plus
like
myself,
you
know
shingles
is
another
thing
to
be
thinking
about
and
getting
your
shingles
vaccine
that
I
have
not
gotten
yet
but
stay
healthy.
A
Everybody
I
want
to
give
a
big
shout
out
to
Scott
and
Ryan.
Yet
again.
Last
night
the
League
of
Women
Voters,
put
on
a
candidate's
forum
for
the
county
auditor's
race
and
it
was
televised
live.
It
was
on
Facebook,
live
if
I'm
not
mistaken,
and
on
YouTube
so
and
it's
out
there
you
can
easily
access
it
and
watch
it
yourself
at
your
leisure.
A
But
it
was
a
full
house
in
the
community
center
yet
again
for
a
forum
and
then
there's
another
one
coming
up
October
6th
again
at
7
pm,
and
it
will
be
the
county
commissioner's
candidate
Forum
to
where
we
have
three
individuals
running
for
a
commissioner
seat,
one
of
whom
is
a
long-term
incumbent
and
two
Challengers.
A
So
the
government
channel
will
again
be
broadcasting
that,
as
it
takes
place
in
real
time
and
also
it
will
be
out
there
for
people
to
observe
if
they
aren't
able
to
make
it
to
the
meeting
or,
if
we're
not
free,
to
watch
it
that
night.
So
a
lot
of
good
work
coming
out
of
our
very
own
local
government
channel
that
can
be
seen
on
channel
10
24..
A
Some
updates
on
the
city
around
the
city,
the
Columbia
North
Congress,
Congress,
stairs
I've,
mentioned
this
I
think
at
least
twice
in
the
past.
They
are
replacing
that
set
of
stairs
kind
of
a
I
almost
said
a
rung
at
a
time.
Well,
not
a
rung
at
a
time,
but
replacing
the
stairs
a
section
at
a
time,
so
it
is
still
being
worked
on,
but
soon
to
be
completely
open
again
because
they're,
just
they're
repairing
replacing
sections.
So
keep
that
in
mind.
The
other
is
the
Depot
Street
stairs
I
understand
the
stringers.
A
Now
can't
have
the
right.
Correct
ones
are
here,
and
progress
will
continue
on
the
Depot
Street
stairs
here
in
the
city
of
Athens,
so
just
know
that
that's
going
on
hydrant
flushing
through
tomorrow,
still
taking
place
when
they
do
the
hydrant
flushing.
You
know
it
can
happen
to
where
your
water
takes
on
kind
of
a
different
tint
kind
of
a
reddish
color
or
rust
color.
It
is
fine.
It
is
just
that
sediment
can
get
stirred
up
when
they're
doing
that
Flushing.
A
We
recommend
that
you
know
you
do
not
do
laundry
if
they
are
doing
hydrant
flushing
on
your
street.
This
is
in
particular
right
now
we're
looking
at
Stimson
Avenue
at
the
intersection
of
Grant
Street
and
continuing
West,
all
the
way
up
to
East
State
Street
and
Carpenter
Street
or
Carpenter
Drive.
So
that's
where
it'll
be
going
on
also
on
Ohio,
Avenue
and
Watt
again.
Some
of
it
may
have
already
taken
place,
because
this
has
been
a
week-long
effort,
but
it
will
wrap
up
tomorrow.
A
The
flushing
will
take
place
between
8,
A.M
and
4
P.M
code
office
is
going
to
be
closed
tomorrow
for
staff
training,
so
just
make
note
of
that
they
will
not
be
opened
down
on
Curran
Street
leaf,
pickup
I,
don't
know
if
you
have
there,
it
is
there's
the
map
that
the
map
says
it
all.
You
know,
I
don't
really
need
to
get
into
this
and
every
you
know
taking
you
all
the
way
around
the
calendar
in
the
different
areas.
So
there
you
see
it
area,
one
two
and
three:
the
dates
are
right.
A
A
B
So
we've
got
homecoming
the
pep
rally.
Next
Thursday
right
on
College
grain,
we're
at
the
juneteen
festival
usually
takes.
A
B
And
then
in
the
game
at
two
there
you
go.
A
We
we
just
heard
it
all.
The
parade
is
pretty
cool,
I
mean
the
parade
will
be
taking
place
as
usual
on
Court
Street.
It
will
be
the
usual
of
late
usual
route
to
where
the
parade
will
be
forming.
Up
Down
by
yeah
Heritage
Hall
yeah,
the
parking
lot
area
back
there
by
the
credit
union
and
all
that
and
then
it'll
be
heading
up.
West
Union,
all
the
way
up
to
Congress,
slash,
Richland
Avenue.
It
will
dog
legs
South
and
go
down
to
President
Street
at
President
Street.
A
It
will
take
a
left
and
it'll
go
up
to
Court,
Street
and
then
Court
Street.
Take
a
left
and
it'll
go
all
the
way
up
right
here
to
Washington
Street
and
then
wrap
back
back
down
again
heading
south
on
College,
Street
and
disbanding
will
be
taking
place
on
East
Union
Street
near
College,
Terrace,
so
that'll
be
the
parade.
I
will
be
in
it.
Are
you
going
to
be
in
it?
Are
you
going
to.
A
You
know
I
I'm,
going
to
be
probably
riding
with
the
college.
Downs
I'll
be
driving
in
the
parade
and
have
all
kinds
of
stuff
all
over
my
truck
I'm
sure,
but
yeah
I'm
gonna
be
I'm
going
to
be
driving
through
so.
B
A
Gotta
watch
it
yeah
it'll
be
good
and
then,
as
Kyle
mentioned
Halloween.
The
other
thing
is
the
Halloween
festivities.
The
29th
of
October
will
be
the
Halloween
block
party.
But,
more
importantly,
what
is
being
planned
this
year
is
to
have
family
friendly
events
between
1
and
5
30
up
on
Court
Street,
because
Court
Street
will
be
closed.
A
So
there's
going
to
be
a
number
of
different
festive
things
taking
place,
then
from
2
30
to
4
30,
the
Uptown
Business
Association
of
Yuba,
the
Athens
Uptown
Business
Association
is
going
to
be
doing
their
Halloween
trick-or-treating
up
on
Court
Street,
so
that
will
be
going
on
during
that
two
hour
span
of
time
and
somewhere,
approximately
five
o'clock-ish
5
30-ish
somewhere
in
that
time
frame
honey
for
the
heart
parade
will
begin
and
it'll
work
its
way,
all
the
way
from
the
Central
venue
building
and
probably
as
it
has
been
in
the
past,
the
intersection
of
fern
alley
and
Court
Street
and
it'll
start
migrating
all
the
way
up:
Court
Street
to
the
the
only
stage
this
year
for
the
Halloween
block
party
and
then
turn
back
around
on
itself
and
head
back
North
again
on
Court
Street
and
then
everyone
d
d,
costuming
costuming
themselves,
defrocking
that
that'll
be
happening
during
that
time
frame
and
then
again,
6
6
30ish
is
when
the
musical
performances
on
the
stage
will
take
place
as
I
understand
it
too.
A
They're
also
thinking
about
having
a
a
Halloween
costume
contest
using
the
stage
for
the
friends,
the
family
and
friends
that
are
going
to
be
there,
so
I
think
we're
going
to
see
a
real
difference
in
how
things
are
being
conducted
on
Court
Street
this
year
for
the
Halloween
block
party.
Another
thing
I
want
to
mention
is
that
AEP
is
going
to
be
starting
in
early
October,
replacing
all
of
our
street
lights.
The
old
sodium
vapor
lights
are
going
to
be
swapped
out
with
LED.
A
You
know
we
were
fortunate
in
that
AEP
has
kind
of
bumped
us
to
the
top
of
the
list
to
transition
away
from
expensive,
inefficient,
high
energy
using
sodium
vapor
lamps
to
the
LED
lamps.
I
want
to
mention
that,
because
what
people
will
notice
is
a
change
in
the
color
spectrum
of
these
lights,
the
lights
will
look
brighter.
A
The
blue
end
of
the
spectrum
so
they're
going
to
appear
to
be
brighter
when
in
fact,
they're,
not
necessarily
from
a
lumen
standpoint,
so
that's
going
to
be
happening
just
sharing,
because
they're
going
to
be
doing
it
in
pretty
short
order
in
that
they
they
state
that
they'll
be
able
to
get
them
done
in
about
three
weeks
to
go
through
and
change
out.
670
Plus,
Street
lamps.
A
I
will
not
be
here.
Chris
knisley
will
be
acting
mayor
because
I
will
be
in
Indianapolis
at
the
urban
sustainability
directors,
Network
Conference,
presenting
on
yet
again
on
our
carbon
fee
and
the
importance
of
having
such
a
piece
of
legislation
go
through
in
cities
trying
to
decarbonize
themselves
or
do
what
the
best
they
can
to
reduce
their
carbon
emissions.
So
so
those
are
kind
of
all
the
things
in
the
know.
A
Kyle,
as
usual,
I
appreciate
you
being
here
three
years
strong
that
you've
been
sitting
here
with
me
and
again
great
thank
you
to
to
the
government
channel
for
all
the
wonderful
programming
and
work
that
they
do
and
thanks
to
all
of
you
who
tune
in
so
please
join
us
again
next
week
for
the
next
installment
of
the
weekly
update
with
Kyle
Johansson
and
the
mayor.
Take
care.
