Description
Mayor's Press Conference - November 2, 2022
B
Good
afternoon
and
welcome
to
the
weekly
update
with
Kyle
Johansson
and
the
mayor
it,
it
was
really
really
Pleasant
this
weekend
this
past
weekend,
it
was
you
know
to
where
Uptown
it
was
high.
60S
may
even
got.
A
B
And
the
reason
I'm
saying
last
weekend
is
because
last
weekend
was
the
Athens
Halloween
block
party,
which
is
always
something
that
I
kind
of
stress
over
you
know
when
that
time
of
year
comes
along,
but
I
think
things
went
really
smoothly.
You
know
we
had
a
whole
bunch
of
family-friendly
events
that
took
place
in
the
early
part
of
the
day
and
the
then
the
the
adult
portion.
B
If
you
will,
the
the
OU
student
portion
of
the
block
party
went
from
about
6
p.m
until
around
11
30,
to
where
we
finally
had
things
wrap
up,
and
it
was
it
was,
it
was
pretty
decent
but
that
warm
weather
really
made
it
nice
for
the
honey
for
the
heart
parade
certainly
made
it
nice
for
the
ayuba
Uptown
trick-or-treating
that
took
place
and
then
Monday
night
was
they
were
trick-or-treating,
which
I
think
that
was
equally
successful
because
it
was
really
pretty
pleasant.
B
C
Tomorrow
we
got
sunny
skies,
High
70
to
low
47.
Friday.
We
got
probably
cloudy
High
75
low
56.
Saturday
I've
got
mostly
quality
out
of
81.
Well
56.
Sunday.
We
got
probably
crowded
high
of
76
well
55.
Monday,
we
got
probably
Cloudy.
Skies
have
76
level
49
next
Tuesday
we
got
mostly
sunny
skies,
High,
74,
well
48
and
X1
Civic
art,
probably
close
guys,
have
69
volt,
47.
C
and
covet
I
got
my
ambivalent
mod
during
the
booster
shot
of
wicked
girl
from
tomorrow,
which
I'm
still
feeling
just
fine,
which
was
good
thing
and
we're
starting
to
well
the
Ohio
Department
of
Health
director.
It's
warning
that
we
might
start
to
see
our
uptake
of
the
case
as
the
family
gathering
starts
this
month,
Christmas
and
as
well
as
new
years
and
I've
started
out
more
trying
once
again
and
then
Sports.
C
B
C
B
Well,
you
know:
volleyball
team
I
have
always
enjoyed
watching
the
volleyball
players.
You
know
it
to
me,
and
this
is
my
own
personal
opinion.
You
know
the
volleyball
and
oh
you
men's
and
women's
basketball
have
always
been
really
really
fun
to
watch.
B
Fun
to
watch
too,
but
it
just
you
know,
volleyball
is
like
they're
a
super
legit
players.
They.
B
They're
all
legitimate
players,
but
it's
just
yeah
the
the
volleyball
program
at
OU,
is
something
else
for
sure
all
right.
Several
things
going
on
that
are
kind
of
Recaps.
I've
talked
about
this
a
little
bit
in
the
past,
but
that
being
that
the
community
center
is
22
years
old,
so
the
community
center
has
decided
to
make
for
a
one
month
membership
at
twenty
two
dollars.
This
is
kind
of
a
good
deal.
It
is
a
good
deal.
You
can
stop
off
at
the
community
center
and
purchase
your
your
one
month
pass.
B
They
will
be
offering
this
through
November
12th,
so
just
keep
in
mind
that
we've
got
a
couple
weeks
left
a
week
and
a
half
in
which
to
take
advantage
of
that
membership
rate.
The
other
thing
to
remind
people
is
the
youth
footsall
registration
is
going
on.
This
is
for
grades
six
through
eight,
it
is
co-rec
co-ed
Futsal
and
it's
35
dollars
per
child.
The
dates
are
November
8th
through
the
15th
for
the
games.
B
So
if
you're
interested
in
signing
your
kids
up
or
your
kids
are
interested
in
playing
Futsal
run
down
the
community
center
and
they'll
take
care
of
you,
the
eighth
annual
Athena
award
is
this
evening:
I
will
be
emceeing
the
event
with
the
chair
for
the
commission
on
disabilities.
Davey
McNelly
I'm
really
looking
forward
to
it
it's
from
5
to
6
p.m,
at
Arts
West.
B
So
we're
really
encouraging
people
to
come
and
check
it
out.
They
are
requiring
that
people
wear
KN,
95,
masks
or
n95
masks
and
people
also
showing
proof
of
vaccination,
largely
because
a
number
of
our
people
who
do
live
with
disabilities
also
have
other
immuno
compromising
conditions
that
that
put
them
at
extra
risk.
So
they
are
requiring
those
things.
But
again,
this
is
the
eighth
annual
hard
to
believe
that
this
has
been
going
on
for
for
eight
years
and
actually
it's
been
longer
than
that.
B
The
prior
to
the
Athena
award,
the
city
used
to
give
out
what
was
called
the
Athens
service
award
to
people
who
are
doing
above
and
beyond
work
with
individuals
in
our
disabilities,
community
and
I.
Remember
thinking
when
I
was
on
the
I
was
chairing
the
commission
on
disabilities.
The
the
service
award,
just
the
name
alone
just
seems
to
be
so
so.
B
Basic
you
know,
and
so
we
rethought
the
award
and
had
really
nice
physical
awards
that
were
made
handcrafted,
and
now
they
have
the
second
iteration
of
the
award,
which
is
a
really
beautiful
ceramic
award
kind
of
statuette
that
they
issue
to
the
recipients
so
come
check
it
out
tonight,
again:
Arts
West
from
five
to
six
pm
I
believe
they
even
have
some
food
and
drinks
that
that
will
be
served
or
that
you
can
pick
up
at
Arts,
West
2022,
leaf
pickup.
We
talk
about
this
a
lot
and
it's
like
every
time.
B
I'm
driving
around
through
different
neighborhoods
I
can
tell
oh,
it
must
be
leaf
pickup,
because
people
have
raked
their
leaves
to
the
curb
or
out
to
the
the
street
or
their
property
abuts
the
street,
and
there
you
see
the
map.
So
we
are
currently
the
leaf
truck
is
working
its
way
through
area
one
and
then
it'll
go
to
area
two
next
week
and
then
the
week
after
that
area
three
and
then
after
that,
one
more
loop
around
everything
and
the
final
sweep
as
I've
mentioned
many
many
times
is
December
12th
through
the
16th.
B
So
it's
a
free
service.
Take
advantage
get
all
those
leaves
out
to
your
curb
and
raked
out
get
them
out
of
your
yard.
Tree
planting
Arbor
Day
is
rapidly
approaching
and
with
Arbor
Day
I
know
that
I'm
reading
an
Arbor,
Day
Proclamation
this
week,
I
believe
it's
down
at
the
community
center
near
the
pool,
but
the
there's
also
tree
planting
in
the
Hocking
riparian
Forest
Area.
It's
kind
of
a
riparian
wetland,
slash
Forest
Area,
where
we're
putting
new
trees
that
are
natives
and
some
shrubs
down
in
the
riparian
project
area.
B
A
B
A
week
and
a
half
from
10
to
2
p.m,
you
can
meet
up
down
at
the
community
center.
There
will
be
staff
down
there.
That'll
get.
You
pointed
in
the
right
direction.
The
only
thing
that
we
ask
that
you
bring
is
certainly
bring
your
own
water.
You
can
bring
snacks,
bring
appropriate
clothing
and
probably
bring
some
gloves
because
we're
going
to
be
getting
our
hands
in
the
dirt
rain
or
shine.
But
if
there
is
thunderstorms
in
the
area,
we
will
postpone
it
and
the
makeup
date
will
be
Saturday.
B
The
19th
there's
several
projects,
West
State
Street
Improvement
project,
the
East
Side
solar
project-
is
going
on.
We've
got
all
kinds
of
stuff
going
on
where
we're
going
to
be
doing
some
planting
yeah
again
we're
all
over
the
place,
the
other
thing
and
we
it's
working
its
way
through
Council
or
soon
to
work.
Its
way
through
Council
is
a
solar
project
down
by
the
community
center.
B
B
As
well
as
lots
of
other
projects,
but
again
this
tree
planting
is
a
a
good
deal,
so
come
and
check
it
out
and
help
out
meetings
that
are
going
on
here
in
the
city
of
Athens.
We
have
the
Athens
Planning
Commission
that
will
be
meeting
here
at
noon.
I
have
a
sneaking
suspicion,
Scott
and
I'm.
Checking
really
quick
on
my
little
handy
dandy
pocket
calendar
that
that
meeting
that
was
scheduled
for
the
third
is
not
happening.
B
It
was
canceled
because
there
was
no
meetings,
but
the
commission
on
disabilities.
You
know
meets
the
first
and
third,
actually
yeah
it's
the
first
and
third
Thursday
of
each
month.
We
were
supposed
to
meet
this
Thursday,
but
we
are
not,
and
as
usual,
when
we
do
meet
it's
always
at
12
o'clock.
Here
in
council
chambers,
Council
will
be
meeting
on
Monday
night
at
7
pm,
as
they
usually
do.
Unless
there
is
a
fifth
Monday
of
the
month
like
there
was
last
Monday,
the
Athens
Board
of
zoning
appeals
will
be
meeting
Tuesday.
B
The
8th
at
7
pm
here
in
council
chambers
and
the
shade
tree
commission
will
be
meeting
on
the
11th,
which
is
Thursday.
Also,
seven
o'clock
here
in
council
chambers
and
I
just
want
to
kind
of
throw
out
some
other
things
that
are
happening
around
the
city.
Like
I,
said
the
Arbor
Day
Proclamation.
That
is
going
to
be
read
this
Friday
at
3
P.M
at
the
new
East
State
Street
dog
park.
B
So
if
you
want
to
come
down
during
that,
Arbor
Day,
Proclamation
and
I
think
we're
planting
a
tree
or
two
or
more,
you
know,
we've
got
trees
all
over
the
place
that
we're
getting
out
there.
So
there's
that
again,
like
I,
said
the
Athena
award
is
this
evening,
which
is
always
a
wonderful,
wonderful
event
and
hopefully
you'll
join
us.
