Description
Mayor's Press Conference - August 3, 2022
A
B
B
B
in
corona
various
cases,
athens
counties
now
in
the
red,
which
is
high
risk
of
close
19.
Since
the
ba5
has
taken
over
in
the
county
and
basically
statewide,
but
the
red
means
it's
still
optional,
like
the
buses,
it's
still
optional
for
the
drivers
and
the
passengers,
which
is
we
actually
still
in
a
better
place
than
like
this
time
last
year
and
two
years
ago
as
well-
and
we
are
actually
now
saying-
maybe
by
september
one-
we
could
have
a
new
vaccine
ready
for
boosters
from
fire.
B
Modern
comets
can
have
all
one
shell
combined
together,
which
would
be
the
strongest
of
all
vaccines.
Already
and
now
we
got
the
novelvax
chronovirus
vaccine
ready
as
well
for
all
ages,
18
years
and
older
and
should
could
be
the
main
rest
of
the
group
that
should
be
not
long
after
christmas
time
frame
in
sports.
We
got
the
soccer
exhibition,
game
chesterfield
next,
first
next
tuesday,
four
o'clock
against
staten
level
permitting
and
then
next
saturday
is
also
bounty
on
the
bricks,
and
it's
also
the
peanut
fuzzy
event.
B
10
o'clock
in
the
morning,
it'll
be
a
bigger
event:
food
trucks,
the
cheerleaders,
the
dance
team,
the
marching
band
and
the
football
team,
and
because
it's
the
opening
ceremony
of
the
new
football
field
next
saturday
morning,
10
o'clock
am
be
there
and
it's
supposed
to
be
a
beautiful
beautiful
morning
for
the
whole
event
in
soccer.
It's
that
afternoon,
as
well
at
four
o'clock
against
youngstown
chesterfield,
four
o'clock
p.m.
B
No
longer
that
we
got
volleyball
the
16th
tuesday,
six
at
the
convo,
I
did
not
long
field
hawking.
In
september
we
got
a
good
night
coming
up
for
football.
We
got
the
marching,
110
newfound
night
band
night
versus
birthday,
and
that
night
don't
forget
after
the
game,
they'll
be
having
fireworks.
Since
2014,
which
would
be
a
good
night
for
fireworks,
not
too
bad,
which
you'll
be
bruce's
birthday
celebration
for
fireworks
night
at
the
football
game,
I
have
the
football
game.
A
Yeah,
hey,
I
had
a
really
interesting
experience.
Kyle
just
to
share
with
you
and
everyone.
Listening
is
that
I
was
last
week.
I
was
in
atlanta
for
the
national
league
of
cities,
leadership
and
boards
and
leadership
meeting
and
during
the
board
meeting,
I'm
sitting
right
next
to
everyone
sitting
alphabetically
around
this
rather
large
table,
because
there's
50
people
who
are
on
the
board,
representing
the
you
know,
all
50
states
and
the
individual
next
to
me
was
a
city
council
member
for
tempe
arizona.
A
His
name
is
joel
navarro
and
joel
kind
of
leaned
over,
and
he
said
you
know
I'll,
be
in
your
city
a
lot
this
this
coming
year
and
I
said
oh,
do
tell
and
he
said
that
he,
his
son,
is
a
new
quarterback
for
ohio
university's
football
team.
So
how?
How
kind
of
serendipitous
was
that
that
just
alphabetically,
this
guy's
sitting
beside
me
and
his
son
is
going
to
be
starting
this
year?
A
I
just
arrived
back
minutes
ago
from
being
up
in
westerville
and
westerville
was
hosting
a
rise
and
thrive,
campus
community
partnership,
kind
of
a
seminar,
slash
mini
conference,
and
I
was
on
a
panel
speaking
with
rebecca
robinson
miller,
from
ohio,
university's
health
sciences
and
professions,
as
well
as
with
jack
pepper
who's,
the
administrator
for
the
athens
city,
county
health
department
and
talking
about
collaborations
pre
and
post
pandemic
and
during
the
pandemic.
So
it
was
really
a
pretty
cool
event
to
be
talking.
A
There
was
a
collaboration
team
from
oxford
in
miami
university
of
ohio,
as
well
as
ashland
university
and
the
city
of
ashland
had
a
panel
that
was
speaking
about
collaboration.
So
it
was
really
interesting,
informational
exchanges
going
on
about
the
ways
we
work
together,
closely
items
worth
mentioning
things
going
on
around
the
city.
We've
got
the
athens
municipal
arts
commission
has
a
call
for
submissions
for
the.
I
guess
it
would
be.
Our
third
poet
laureate,
the
2023-2024
poet
laureate,
so
it's
that
time.
A
The
poll
laureate
for
the
city
of
athens,
just
from
an
informational
standpoint,
is
someone
who
advocates
for
the
arts
and
fosters
love
of
poetry
and
literature
among
the
diversity
of
all
of
our
residents.
There's
also
a
two
thousand
dollar
per
year:
it's
a
two
year
appointment
as
the
poet
laureate,
a
two
thousand
dollar
per
year,
stipend
that
is
allocated
to
our
city,
poet
laureate.
A
A
It's
a
friday
at
5,
00
pm
and
you
can
submit
your
or
complete
information
rather
and
applications
can
be
found
in
the
city's
website
under
the
athens
municipal
arts,
commission
tab
so
check
it
out
again
looking
for
our
next
poet
laureate
again,
this
would
be
number
four,
interestingly,
to
share
kerry.
Gunther
seymour,
who
was
our
second
poet
laureate,
went
on
to
be
the
state's
poet.
A
Laureate
was
the
state
of
ohio,
poet,
laureate
and
she
was
a
poet
laureate
during
the
pandemic,
and
so
she,
interestingly,
was
appointed
to
a
second
two-year
term,
as
the
state
poet
laureate,
because
of
you
know
the
application
process
and
it
being
in
the
middle
of
covid.
So
we
have
a
great
track
record
of
poet
laureates
our
most
recent
is,
is
wendy
mcvicker
and
so
wendy
her
term
will
be
ending
and
as
we
look
for
and
install
the
2023
2024
polar
street
improve.
Well,
I
mean
look.
A
We've
got
a
number
of
streets,
banbury
drive
I'll
kind
of
hit,
the
most
notable
cook
drive,
which
is
finished.
We
received
a
really
nice.
Thank
you
letter
from
someone
who
lives
on
cook
drive
with
that
paving
project
campbell
street
east
park
drive
elliott
street
fern
alley.
I
believe
fern
alley
is
being
paved
as
we
speak.
A
And
it
looks
like
this
week:
it's
campbell,
wallace
smith,
hickory
is
going
to
be
done
and
then
banbury
up
in
oakmont
area,
so
just
know
that
that
the
paving
crews
are
out
and
about.
We
also
have
a
lot
of
street
striping
and
painting
that's
going
on.
So
please
be
careful
when
you're
driving
around
the
uptown
area,
in
particular
that
our
street
painting
crews
are
out
there
coneing
off
areas
and
re-striping.
A
You
know
the
yellow
dividing
line
down
the
middle
of
the
streets
also
doing
the
yellow
curbing
and
then
I
saw
them
just
moments
ago,
repainting,
the
turn
only
arrows
and
indicators.
So
a
lot
going
on
when
it
comes
to
sprucing
up
the
city.
The
city
of
athens
is
being
recognized
this
year
by
ohio
magazine.
So
ohio
magazine
has
us,
along
with
four
other
cities
in
the
state
of
ohio.
It's
athens,
belle
fountain,
kent
perrysburg
and
versailles
and
there'll
be
a
great
story
that
shows
up
in
the
ohio
magazine
for
the
best
home
hometown
honorees.
A
So
it's
great
to
see
us
get
in
there.
I
was
interviewed
about
a
month
ago
as
one
of
the
finalists
and
about
a
week
ago.
Now
I
guess
they
made
the
great
reveal
and
yay
we
are.
It
will
be
in
their
october
november
issue
and
then
we'll
also
be
in
their.
I
believe
it's
july
august
issue
of
2023,
so
keep
your
eyes
open
for
that.
Aep
has
an
interesting
program:
the
ap
ohio
neighbor
to
neighbor
program.
A
A
I
think
that
there
is
probably
more
information
that
will
show
up
on
your
aep
ohio
bill
program.
Guidelines
and
eligibility
requirements
are
subject
to
change
under
this
program.
So
keep
your
eyes
open
to
that.
I'm
sure
you
can
can
just
simply
google
aep
ohio
neighbor
to
neighbor
program
and
get
more
information
on
that.
The
cca
program,
the
tax
amnesty
was
in
the
month
of
june
and
then
rolling
into
july.
It
was
the
program
where
the
cleveland
central
collection
agency
was
going
to
collect
delinquent
taxes
for
the
city
of
athens.
A
It
has
been
extended
into
the
month
of
august.
It
was
supposed
to
be
the
month
of
jul
of
july
and
they
are
carrying
it
forward
into
the
month
of
august
as
well.
So
if
you
want
more
information
on
the
cca
program,
you
can
certainly
pull
up
the
city's
website
and
locate
that
information
regarding
cca
on
the
city's
website.
A
Eighth
annual
athena
awards-
I've
spoken
about
this
before
during
the
press
conference,
so
just
make
note
that
they
are
accepting
nominations
for
the
athena
award
again.
This
is
the
only
award
that
the
citize,
the
city
bestows
upon
individuals
for
their
recognized
work.
In
disabilities
advocacy,
you
can
be
an
individual,
you
can
be
an
organization
or
an
agency
and
be
recognized
under
this
particular
program.
So
again,
it
is
the
eighth
annual,
and
I
would
encourage
you
again
to
go
to
the
city's
website
and
the
commission
on
disabilities.
A
They
are
the
ones
who
who
administer
the
cca
or
the
cca
the
a
theater
award
program.
You
know
not
the
cca
program
that
would
be
the
auditor's
office
splash
pad
it
is
free
on
certain
times
it
is
free,
has
free
entry
monday
through
friday,
from
10
to
11
45
a.m.
A
Beginning
today,
actually
beginning
yesterday,
yesterday
that
started
so
it's
it's
open
and
free
great
way
to
cool
down,
especially
colorado.
With
these
90
degree,
temperatures
that
we're
dealing
with
you
can
head
down
there.
You
don't
need
a
pool
pass
or
anything
like
that
to
use
the
splash
pad
free,
so
check
that
out.
Another
thing,
ryan.
I
think
you've
got
something
with
regards
to
the
athens
community
center.
There.
It
is
center
court
b,
use
calendar,
that's
a
mouthful
there.
You
see
the
calendar
you
can
for
the
month
of
august.
A
You
can
use
this
calendar
to
check
out
availability
for
court
b.
This
is
for
court
b,
only
unless
otherwise
noted
court
a
is
always
available
and
open
to
play
for
basketball
unless
there's
a
special
event
taking
place.
A
So
I
think
this
is
a
way
in
which
we
can
mitigate
some
of
the
conflicts
or
confusion
when
it
comes
to
court
use
for
either
basketball
or
pickleball,
which
takes
place
on
court
b.
So
there's
the
calendar,
you
can
probably
pull
down
the
athens
arts
parks
and
recreation
tab
and
find
that
calendar
there
and
check
out
what
time
is
available
for
you,
scott
and
ryan.
I
don't
know
if
we
have
a
something
to
show
for
the
recycling
and
cleanup
day.
A
If
not,
I
will
certainly
just
kind
of
read
through
this.
Basically,
this
is
an
event
that
takes
place
once
or
twice
a
year.
We
have
a
one
event
coming
up
it's
october
1st,
it
will
be
at
the
athens
county
fairground.
A
This
is
for
those
hard
to
get
rid
of
items,
so
things
like
tires
or
scrap,
metal
or
e-waste
need
a
whole
bunch
of
papers
that
you've
been
hoarding
for
years
and
years
and
years
to
be
shredded
well.
They'll
handle
that
too
it'll
be
from
9,
am
to
1
pm
appliances,
e-waste
cell
phones,
scrap
metal,
clothing,
textiles,
furniture,
mattresses,
books,
batteries,
medical
equipment
and
supplies
for
a
small
fee.
You
can
drop
off
tvs,
fluorescent
bulbs
and
tubes
items
that
can't
be
reused
or
cycles
can
be,
will
be
disposed
of
safely.
A
The
50
cent
per
waist
tire
recycling
drop-off,
so
there
is
a
fees
for
some
of
these
if
you've
got
tires
with
rims
on
them,
that's
four
dollars
per
tire.
So
a
bunch
of
interesting,
interesting
things.
You
know
this
is
being
put
on
by
the
athens
hawking
recycling
center,
the
rural
action,
recycle,
ohio,
the
restore
so
and
so
forth.
So
this
is
a
great
great
opportunity.
A
If
I'm
not
mistaken,
the
athens
hawking,
solid
waste
district
also
plays
a
role
in
that
so
october.
1
9
a.m,
to
1
p.m,
for
getting
rid
of
those
hard
to
get
rid
of
items.
Meetings.
There's
gonna
be
a
meeting
in
here
in
about
nine
minutes.
There's
the
ad
hoc
committee
to
review
pedestrian
accessibility.
A
We
meet
every
two
weeks,
I
believe,
or
at
least
monthly,
as
an
ad
hoc
committee,
so
we're
meeting
up
here
at
2,
30
p.m.
Excuse
me
and
athens,
city
council
will
be
meeting
august,
8th,
7
pm
up
here
in
council
chambers
as
usual,
and
then
we
also
have
excuse
me.
The
athens
shade
tree
commission
august
11th
at
7
00
p.m,
and
that
would
be
up
here
as
well.
A
That's
all
I
really
have
for
today.
One
last
thing
to
share.
I
know
that
there's
been
a
lot
of
chatter
out
there
about
the
new
back
in
angle,
parking
on
college
street
across
from
the
police
station
police
headquarters,
the
the
the
way
in
which
you
use
they're
on
the
east
side
of
college
street.
The
way
they're
used
is
pretty
simple.
A
Much
like
parallel
parking.
You
pull
ahead
of
the
parking
space,
albeit
it's
diagonal,
not
parallel,
and
you
you
back
into
the
space
that's
available,
they're
safer
when
it
comes
to
getting
back
into
traffic
again
when
you
leave
that
parking
space,
because
you
simply
look
over
your
left
shoulder
when
it's
clear
and
you
pull
straight
out
into
the
driving
lane
as
opposed
to
the
traditional
angled
parking
spaces
or
diagonal
parking,
where
you
find
yourself
having
to
back
out
blindly
into
the
roadway
in
order
to
get
back
on
the
road
and
and
head
on
your
way.
A
So
currently
they're
still
posted
no
parking.
We
will
be
installing
parking
parking
meters
at
those
13
parking
spaces.
So
just
make
note
that,
on
the
east
side
of
college
street
between
washington
and
state
street,
we
will
have
the
soon
to
be
live
back
in
angle
or
back
in
diagonal
parking
on
college
street
other
than
that
kyle.
Thank
you
as
usual
for
joining
me
and
providing
all
things,
weather,
coveted
and
bobcat
sports,
and
please
join
kyle,
and
I
again
next
week
for
the
next
weekly
update
with
kyle.
