From YouTube: How Do I? - Crosswalk Safety
Description
In this episode of How Do I? The Athens Police Department talks about crosswalk safety.
A
Hello,
my
name
is
patrol
officer
Scott
McPherson
from
the
Athens
Police
Department.
If
you've
ever
wondered,
who
exactly
has
the
right-of-way
at
a
crosswalk
or
felt
like
a
driver
or
a
pedestrian,
did
not
exercise
caution
and
almost
caused
an
accident?
The
Athens
Police
Department
is
here
to
clear
up
some
of
the
confusion.
B
On
this
edition
of
how
do
I
we've
looked
into
the
ohio
handbook
and
pulled
out
a
few
situations
that
you
will
commonly
find
on
your
normal
street
to
give
you
information
on
how
to
approach
several
potentially
confusing
situations,
your
scenario,
one.
If
a
pedestrian
has
a
wok
symbol,
he
or
she
must
yield
to
any
vehicles
lawfully
within
the
intersection
when
the
symbol
is
first
shown
so
to
all
pedestrians
out
there.
If
the
vehicle
is
in
the
intersection
before
you're
in
the
crosswalk.
Please
wait
for
that
car
to
pass.
B
Scenario:
two:
if
a
pedestrian
is
upon
the
half
of
the
street
in
front
of
a
turning
car,
that
car
must
yield,
slow
or
stop.
This
is
a
reverse
of
scenario
one
and
that
the
pedestrian
is
in
the
crosswalk
before
the
car
enters
the
intersection
again,
the
car
should
allow
the
pedestrian
to
finish
crossing
before
completing
the
turn.
B
Here's
scenario:
three:
no
pedestrians
shall
suddenly
leave
the
curb
and
run
into
the
path
of
a
vehicle
constituting
an
immediate
hazard,
never
attempt
to
cross
the
street,
even
if
you
believe
you
can
safely
cross
in
time
and
finally,
scenario
for
a
pedestrian
must
not
walk
on
any
path,
including
diagonal
unless
marked
with
a
crosswalk.
The
crosswalk
lines
are
there
to
help
you
and
the
drivers.
So
please
respect
them.
