A
Hello,
this
is
Katherine
seyfried,
with
a
tgc
news.
Update
on
today's
broadcast
will
show
you
some
of
the
work
being
done
around
Athens
to
keep
it
green
and
beautiful.
After
that,
we'll
give
you
an
inside
look
at
the
morrison
Gordon
elementary
field
trip
to
the
Athens
City
Building,
but
first
on
Tuesday
April
7th
volunteers
began
planting
trees
at
the
bike
path,
spur
on
armitage
road,
elementary
school
kids,
university
students
and
those
who
just
wanted
to
help
came
down
in
between
the
rain
showers
to
plant
seven
thousand
trees.
B
Here
we
are
with
the
proper
tools
and
equipment,
and
we
have
a
wide
variety
of
different
starters
here
of
cottonwoods
and
some
walnuts
as
well
as
some
was
it
river.
I.
Think
river
beach
is
everything
river
birch
and
making
sure
that
we
use
the
proper
tool
and
equipment
to
make
sure
that
there's
an
adequate
room
for
the
root
system
and
then
get
the
roots
down
in
there
and
bring
some
nice
with
soil
and
compact
it
a
little
bit,
but
not
too
much.
B
C
Bike
path,
I
think
an
indeed
a
bike
weighs
on
the
other
side
of
the
river
over
here,
and
then
this
is
the
bridge
that
in
2010,
weary
constructed
the
deck
in
order
to
get
across
the
river
and
then
the
next
phase
of
the
bike
path
project
takes
off
on
this
end
of
the
bridge,
down
the
old
railroad
embankment
and
then
down
into
this
bottom
landing.
You
can
kind
of
see
those
white
sticks
around
there
and
that's
the
alignment
of
the
bike
path.
C
Kind
of
goes
to
the
middle
of
this
field
and
loops
around
so
where
the
vehicles
are
parked
and
then
up
that
or
being
over
towards
university
states,
bulevar
that
we're
being
behind
the
water
booster
station.
The
area
behind
where
the
bike
path
alignment
is
going
to
go
is
going
to
be
a
wetland
currently
already
is
a
an
emergent
wetland
and
we're
going
to
attempt
to
recreate
a
higher-quality
wetland.
The
area
on
this
side
of
where
the
bike
path
is
I'm,
going
to
attempt
to
reforge
that.
C
A
Secret
that
the
city
of
Athens
loves
trees.
In
fact,
Athens
has
been
considered
a
tree
city
USA
for
the
past
25
years.
To
mark
this
achievement,
the
city
will
host
the
tree
city,
USA
Awards,
on
April
29,
that
the
ridges
beginning
at
nine
a.m.
and
ending
at
three
that
afternoon
in
order
to
remain
a
tree
city
Athens
must
spend
or
have
a
volunteer
equivalents
of
about
forty
six
thousand
dollars
for
the
community
forestry
program.
We
had
the
opportunity
to
ask
urban
forest
or
an
bonner
from
the
ohio
department
of
natural
resources.
D
Yeah
I
think
that's
one
of
the
magical
things
about
Tree
City
USA
gives
a
community
structure.
It
helps
a
community
set
goals
for
its
program
in
the
short
term
in
the
long
term.
For
those
of
the
people
who
don't
know
what
tree
city
USA
is
tree.
City
USA
is
a
national
program.
It's
administered
through
the
Arbor
Day
Foundation,
which
is
one
of
America's,
oldest
conservation
organizations,
and
to
be
a
tree
city
USA.
A
community
has
to
number
one
make
someone
responsible
like
a
tree
Commission
or
city
forester.
D
D
What
you
can
and
can't
do
with
public
trees
in
your
community?
So
it's
a
great
program.
It
does.
It
helps
you
develop
structure,
it
lets
the
world
know
where
you're
at
and
what
your
community
values
and
I've
heard
of
developers
and
a
lot
of
leaders.
National
leaders
say
that
when
they're
looking
at
moving
their
companies
around,
that's
one
of
the
markers
they
look
at
is
this
community
a
nationally
recognized
tree
city
USA?
And
if
your
communities,
a
tree
city
USA?
That
means
that
you
value
your
green
infrastructure.
D
A
Finally,
on
today's
broadcast,
third
graders
from
Morrison
Gordon
elementary
school
had
the
opportunity
to
explore
how
city
government
works
as
they
toured
the
city
building.
They
learned
all
about
the
different
branches
of
government
and
even
got
the
chance
to
ask
Mayor
Paul,
while
some
very
tough
questions.
What.
B
Is
my
favorite
kind
Andy
of
actually
spearmint
lifesavers
I
have
those
on
my
desk
and
and
the
clicker
Council
has
some
of
those
cheese
I
see
a
lot
of
hers.
