Welcome to station 303: this is the south station.

A

Here off of country club drive., my name is nick gylling,, I'm one of the.

A

Firefighter paramedics with bend fire & rescue.

A

At this station we have five people. today.

A

Two of us are on the ambulance as firefighter paramedics.

A

And then we have three on the engine.. We also have a wild land engine called.

A

An interface and a water tender at this station., so if.

A

There was a fire brush, fire, like there was earlier.

A

Today,, the people on the engine would take their gear and hop on to the four-wheel drive engine in order to respond to that. or if we needed to.

A

Get water to a fire, we have a tender., so let me show you guys: around!.

A

Welcome upstairs,: this is our living quarters.

A

We are here for two days.. Our schedule is working.

A

Two whole days a 48 hour shift, and then we go home for four days.

A

We, while we're here, pool our money together.

A

And cook for each other throughout the shift.

A

This is our kitchen.. We have a nice big kitchen.

A

We have our stove,, oven and barbecue all shut off if we get a call so that we.

A

Can immediately leave our cooking and go downstairs.

A

Without having to worry about anything burning or anything like that, while.

A

We're gone.: this is where we enjoy all of our meals. behind me. We have.

A

Our video conference system on one side. this has been really useful.. We start every shift by.

A

Everyone at the other stations all getting on and we.

A

Talk about what is going to happen, the next few days,, if there's any big events,.

A

That we need to prepare for, and we coordinate a lot of training.

A

This has been really useful lately with the ability for us to do.

A

Training remotely staying in our stations and in our districts but.

A

Being able to still maintain social distancing.

A

On the other side, we have our cad system., so this shows us all of the calls going.

A

On in the county., we're able to see if there are calls.

A

Going on in other districts next to ours, and if we need to help them out or we're able to see the calls that the 911 takers are taking.

A

Sometimes, even before we get dispatched to them., this is our living room.. We have a bunch of recliners.

A

As well as a tv, the union pitches in and we are able to get some cable.

A

So we can sometimes sit back and, when we're not training.

A

Or not running calls, we're able to really relax.

A

And have a sense of family time-, since we do spend so much time together.

A

Away from our own families. over here, we have all of our bedrooms.

A

This station there's five of us who are here today.

A

Each of us has our own bedroom and what we're able to do is, depending.

A

If we're on the ambulance or the engine,, we have it set so that the lights and.

A

The tones come on., so tonight I'm going to be working on.

A

The ambulance,, so if the ambulance gets called my lights, will turn on I'll, hear the dispatcher.

A

Over a speaker only in my room. that way, if the engine's not going with us on.

A

That call,, they can continue to try and sleep.

A

moving on to the bathrooms-, we're here for two whole days-. So as you.

A

Can imagine we have to do everything like shower? Take care of ourselves.? We.

A

Have our own lockers, we do all of our own laundry here in the.

A

Station., as you can imagine, on a day like today, which is a super hot summer day-, if we come back from a call or some sort.

A

Of a fire we'll want to shower and swap out all of.

A

Our uniform because we'll probably be super sweaty.

A

This is our workout room., a huge part of our job, both.

A

Fire and on the medical side is being very physically fit so that we don't get.

A

Hurt and that we're able to perform the duties that we need to do.

A

For our community., so here we have a good size.

A

Workout room that we're able to come in and every day.

A

Get some sort of workout in whether it's cardio, stair stepping with a weight, vest, rowing.

A

Or more of a strength, training workout.. We have a few computers throughout the.

A

Station to do a lot of our online training as.

A

Well, as a lot of our medical charting., a large.

A

Portion of this job is medical related.. So whenever we see a.

A

Patient we write a detailed medical chart that then.

A

Will be there for both the patient and the hospital.

A
