From YouTube: THE RACE TO THE MOUNTAIN
Description
Four minutes is not worth your life. That’s the amount of time you can save if you drive faster and pass people on the way to the mountain.
“Slow down. Chill out. Take your time. Have a good time. Come back safe.” – Alex McClaran, Firefighter, Paramedic, Bend Fire Department.
Big thanks to backyardbend.com @backyardbend #backyardbend for this awesome video.
A
B
Alex
McLaren
here
then
fire
departments,
paramedic
fireman,
lived
in
town
since
about
1984
used
to
ride
bikes,
a
whole
lot,
snowboard
skiing,
having
my
family
here
so
recently,
you
may
have
seen
an
Instagram
post
from
the
Bend
Fire
Department
regarding
people
traveling
onto
the
mountain
kind
of
racing
up
there
back
and
forth
and
I
believe
the
post
said
something
to
the
effect
of
it's,
not
race.
You
know
slow
down,
get
their
visas
and
those
are
the
standard
safety
bulletins.
B
You
hear
them
all
the
time,
but
the
fact
is
accidents
happen
to
other
people,
so
to
speak.
We
respond
anytime,
there's
icy
conditions
up
there,
then
Fire
Department
responds
to
the
road
to
Mount,
Bachelor
everyday
and
sometimes
their
single
vehicle,
slide-offs
non-injury
and
then
sometimes
they're.
The
real
deal
where
people's
lives
are
in
danger.
B
So,
let's
do
the
math:
let's
paint
the
picture
of
that
stacked
up
Friday
that
stacked
up
Saturday,
where
it
really
is
bumper-to-bumper
traffic.
I
know
everybody
wants
to
get
up
there
as
soon
as
it
himself
from
Mount,
Bachelor
village,
all
the
way
to
the
parking
lot.
It's
20
miles
up
there
and
as
we've
done
the
math
just
looking
at
some
some
rough
numbers
worst
case
scenario
is
still
firstworldproblems.
You
get
to
drive
45
miles
an
hour
up.
The
mountain
I
mean
45
miles
an
hour
in
20
miles.
Doing
the
rough
math
is
27
minutes.
B
If
you
were
lucky
enough
to
go
55
miles
an
hour
with
no
other
traffic
in
front
of
you
or
if
traffic
flow
is
going
55,
it
takes
22
minutes
to
get
up
there.
That's
just
still
not
a
whole
lot
of
savings.
If
you
were
able
to
drive
65
miles
an
hour
at
that
point,
it
only
takes
you
with
it.
20
minutes
or
something
like
that.
19
or
20
minutes
I
think
is
19.
The
savings
are
minutes
in
between
those
time
intervals.
B
So
when
you're
talking
saving
4
minutes
or
so
at
a
time
by
bumping
up
10
miles
an
hour,
4
minutes,
are
you
kidding
me
come
on
think
about
it
in
four
minutes?
If
you
were
able
to
make
the
past,
which
is
never
gonna,
be
safe
in
this
conditions
that
you
want
to
be
there
for,
and
you
were
able
to
consistently
drive
that
ten
miles
an
hour
faster,
you're
saving,
four
minutes
right
less
than
five
minutes,
but
four
minutes
is
not
worth
your
life
ever.
B
It's
never
worth
your
life,
but
we
want
to
see
everybody
out
there.
We
want
to
see
you
on
the
list.
We
want
to
see
it
restaurants
afterwards,
on
our
days
off.
We
don't
want
to
see
in
one
of
these,
and
it
can
happen
like
that.
So
we
just
really
encourage
slow
down
chill
out.
Take
your
time
have
a
good
time
come
back
safe.
We
see
out
there.
