BEDAB is a committee made up of leading citizens of Bend who advise the City Council on Economic Development issues.

Hello and welcome to cityedition the city of bend's video news magazine, I'm justin finestone.. The city council uses citizen advisory committees to get different perspectives on important issues.

The latest is the bend economic development advisory board..

A

A group of volunteer business leaders who advise the city on job growth and business development, strategies.

B

The bedab is a group of citizens from bend with diverse business experience who come together and meet regulary and provide advice to the city about how we can d a better job, attracting and creating jobs.

Private sector jobs in bend.

C

We formed bedab a few years ago and that was to develop a strategic plan for the city.

C

They've done that, and now that we've created a business advocacy program, they'll turn into more of an oversight policy making board.

For the city. and there will be 9 individuals on that board, six of which will consist of business owners or primary employees within businesses and 3 seats will be held by entreprenerial organizations such as edco, the chamber,, the college, those types of folks.

Moving forward, the bedab committee will become an advisory board to council, made up private sector leaders to be able to guide policy and help to implement the business advocacy program within the city of bend..

It's important to have some separation and some creative tension between the beaurocacy, as well as the industry and bedab, is the group to help make that happen.

and that's why these private sector.

Individuals coming together and telling the city, hey, you could make this change and create this incentive.

Do this with your roads.

These individuals have.

Involvement in- and they are in growth businesses here in bend, so bend needs to understand how they are interfacing with the city and what we can do to make their lives easier and other businesses can continue to prosper and grow,, add jobs and really improve the employment situation here in bend.

and we're also trying to.

Find an entreneurial sign spirit in folks who could advise the city with a private industry perspective in terms of economic development strategies, as we are moving forward. the enemployment rate.

Is unacceptably high families and hurting, businesses are hurting and the city of bend lacking to try to speed the process of obtaining building and planning permits,. Try to help people navigate thru the city's systems that the city is a partner to job creation and not a hinderance.

It's important for the city of bend to insure that we're open to the community that we are not just a city of staff making all these decisions which impact the broader community. So those folks could be involved in the creation of policy and really help setting the tone for the city,, especially letting. The folks know that the city is open for business..

The city council.

Realizes that we're coming out of a very tough economic situation, and I think that the idea is to go from economic recovery to economic revival.

and try to create a more healthy,, diverse economic foundation for the city.
