Today’s Biloxi A to Z report has the latest covid numbers, the latest on debris, a look at how the city is looking to lower your monthly water bill, and an event captured on camera over the weekend at the Lopez-Quave Public Safety Center.
A
I'm
vincent
creel
public
affairs
manager
for
the
city
of
biloxi
here
to
deliver
today's
report
for
monday
december
14,
2020
we'll
have
the
latest
covert
19
numbers
the
latest
on
debris
and
look
at
how
the
city
is
looking
to
lower
your
monthly
water
bill
and
we'll
have
something
that
was
captured
on
camera
over
the
weekend
at
the
lopez
quave
public
safety
center.
But
we
begin
today
with
an
announcement
at
the
biloxi
fire
department
for
years.
A
The
city
of
biloxi
has
liked
to
say
that
we
have
the
best
paid
best
trained
and
best
equipped
fire
and
police
departments
you'll
find
anywhere.
Today
that
was
confirmed
again
mayor
andrew
fofo
gillich
announced
to
the
biloxi
fire
department
that
the
mississippi
state
rating
bureau
has
elevated
the
biloxi
fire
department
to
a
class
ii
fire
department.
This
grading,
according
to
biloxi
fire
chief,
joe
boney,
puts
the
biloxi
fire
department
among
the
top
two
percent
of
fire
departments
across
the
country.
A
Both
mayor
gillich
and
fire
chief
boney
say
the
rating
was
the
result
of
cooperation
and
teamwork
across
all
city
departments,
contact
your
local
insurance
agent
to
make
sure
that
you're
getting
any
applicable
discounts
on
your
fire
insurance.
It's
going
to
depend
on
the
type
of
structure
and
coverage
that
you
have,
but
insurance
companies
do
give
discounts
when
a
city
has
a
top-rated
fire
department,
as
we
do
here
in
biloxi
and
now
the
covet
19
update.
B
The
mississippi
state
department
of
health
has
been
reporting,
statewide,
coronavirus
cases
since
mid-march,
that
is
nearly
a
year.
Some
are
tired
of
hearing
about
the
virus,
but
the
fact
is,
cases
continue
to
be
seen
continue
to
be
passed
along
and
sadly,
there
continues
to
be
deaths.
The
battle
is
not
over
yet,
please
don't
let
your
guard
down
continue
to
follow
cdc
guidelines
to
help
stop
the
spread.
B
Wear
a
face
mask
avoid
social
gatherings,
participate
in
work,
school
or
other
absolutely
essential
activities
and
stay
home
if
you
feel
sick
and
now
the
latest
from
the
mississippi
state
department
of
health.
Today,
the
department
reports
over
600
new
cases
of
the
virus
statewide
and
nearly
6
000
new
cases.
Since
friday,
five
deaths
were
reported
today
and
the
statewide
total
since
mid-march
now
stands
at
just
over
4
200..
B
In
harrison
county,
the
state
department
reports
37
new
cases
of
the
virus,
making
the
county
total
a
little
more
than
8
700.
124
coven
19
deaths
have
been
reported
in
harrison
county.
Since
all
this
began
in
mid-march
here's
the
14-day
chart
for
harrison
county,
as
you
can
see
that
red
line
continues
to
rise
now
for
the
hospitalizations.
B
B
C
C
A
The
city's
debris
removal
efforts
continue
as
of
sunday
debris,
crews,
picking
up
zeta
storm
debris
had
been
working
for
a
total
of
39
days.
The
running
tab
on
this
debris.
Removal
by
the
way
is
2.8
million
dollars.
As
of
sunday,
crews
have
made
more
than
4
500
halls
from
city
neighborhoods
they've
picked
up
more
than
210
000
cubic
yards
of
debris.
A
A
As
a
reminder,
the
city
also
expects
the
first
pass
to
be
completed
before
crews
leave
for
their
christmas
break.
Crews
will
be
on
christmas
break
from
wednesday
december
23rd
until
sunday
january
3rd.
They
will
return
to
work.
On
monday
january
4th
city
council
members
gather
for
their
meeting
on
tuesday
at
biloxi
city
hall,
they're
facing
an
agenda
of
nearly
60
measures.
A
Two
of
the
measures
deal
with
incentives
for
the
proposed
developments
at
the
broad
water
and
tivoli.
These
proposed
mega
resorts
would
amount
to
nearly
1.8
billion
in
development.
They
would
create
thousands
of
jobs
and
attract
new
visitors
and
enhance
the
tax
base
of
the
city
and
the
county.
Another
measure
on
the
agenda
has
to
do
with
sewer
rates
for
years.
Biloxians
have
complained
about
fees
on
their
monthly
water
bills,
and
now
mayor
gillich
has
convinced
the
utility
authority
to
refinance
its
long-term
debt
at
a
lower
interest
rate.
A
A
E
Hello,
everybody
we're
the
coastal
black
catholics,
I'm
donna
president.
These
are
the
coastal
black
captive
members
here
and
what
we
do
basically
is
we
just
do
volunteerism
and
every
year
we
come
out
and
we
want
to
support
our
biloxi
pd.
So
we
come
on
and
we
decorate
for
the
seasons,
because
this
is
what
we
need.
We
need
unity
in
our
community
and
that's
what
our
motto
is
for
the
coastal
black
captains
united
community.
E
So
if
anybody
want
to
join-
and
you
want
to
help
make
your
community
better,
just
contact
someone
in
coastal
black
captains
because
it's
coast
to
coast,
so
anybody
who
want
to
join
you're
more
than
welcome
to
come.
You
know-
and
it's
about
helping
each
other's
community
because,
like
when
we
say
the
president
can't
do
it
the
governor
can't
do
it.
The
mayor
can't
do
it,
so
you
have
to
help
your
own
community.
E
So
basically,
wherever
you
live,
that's
like
part
of
your
house,
your
living
room,
your
bedroom,
wherever
it
is,
you
want
to
keep
it
clean,
so
help
keep
your
neighborhood
clean,
whatever
it
means
helping
the
homeless
cleaning
up
in
the
neighborhood.
Whatever
you
need
to
do,
that's
what
you
need
to
do
in
your
community.
So
that's
what
we
do.
E
And
also
christmas
day
at
loads
and
fishes,
the
coastal
black
captains
is
gonna,
be
having
our
second
annual
homeless
christmas
dinner
and
we're
gonna
be
having
food.
That's
gonna
be
supplied
by
us
again
thanks
to
supervisor
pamela
martin
and
we're
going
to
be
having
food
and
we're
going
to
get
to
go
plates
because
once
they
finish
eating
loads
of
fishes,
they
have
nothing
else.
We
are
at
our
homes,
we
having
food,
we
have
and
everything
and
we
celebrate
christmas,
but
they
have
nothing.
