A
Welcome
to
another
edition
of
biloxi
a
to
z,
your
weekly
guide
to
what's
happening
in
biloxi.
This
program
is
being
recorded
for
friday
july
23
2021
we'll
have
an
update
on
the
construction
at
edgewater
mall.
There's
a
cleanup
on
point
cadet
this
weekend.
Budget
talks
continue
in
city
hall.
School
bells
will
be
ringing
soon
and
we'll
take
you
out
to
pennzoil
mcmanus
park
for
your
moment
of
zen.
But
our
top
story
today
is
a
familiar
one:
the
coronavirus
pandemic.
B
Coronavirus
cases
on
the
rise,
something
we
have
not
seen
in
about
six
months,
the
number
of
daily
cases
and
hospital
patients
with
devices
are
spiky.
In
fact,
as
of
thursday
july,
the
22nd,
the
mississippi
state
department
of
health
reports,
nearly
1200
new
cases
of
the
corona
statewide
in
24
hours
and
nine
new
dead
statewide
in
harrison
county
130,
new
covent
19
cases
were
reported
with
three
new
deaths.
As
you
look
at
this
chart,
you
can
see
the
large
daily
numbers.
B
Overall,
nearly
332
000
cases
of
cobin
19
have
been
reported
statewide
with
more
than
7
400
deaths
in
harrison
county.
Nearly
19
and
500
cases
have
been
reported,
with
326
deaths
at
the
hospitals.
As
of
july,
the
21st
454
patients
with
their
coronavirus
were
hospitalized
statewide
69
of
those
were
in
coast,
hospitals
and
29
of
those
patients
were
in
intensive
care
units.
As
for
the
vaccinations,
mississippi
remains
as
one
of
the
states
with
the
lowest
covet
19
vaccination
rates.
B
Those
unvaccinated
should
wear
a
mask
when
indoors
at
mass
gatherings
and
those
aged,
65
and
older,
as
well
as
those
with
chronic
underlying
medical
conditions,
should
avoid
all
mass
gatherings.
These
recommendations
are
advised
by
the
state
through
july.
The
26th,
the
delta
variant
by
the
way
is
said
to
be
far
more
contagious
than

A
Meanwhile,
at
biloxi
city
hall
budget
discussions
are
continuing.
The
mayor
and
city
council
have
reviewed
revenue
projections
for
the
coming
fiscal
year,
and
discussions
about
departmental
budgets
will
take
place
over
the
next
several
weeks.
This
past
week,
non-departmental
funding,
which
includes
museums
and
a
host
of
other
pursuits,
was
discussed.
A
A
balanced
budget
is
expected
to
be
in
place
by
mid-september.
The
new
fiscal
year
begins
october.
1St,
in
other
news,
joe
boney
is
out
as
biloxi
fire
chief
mayor,
andrew
fofo.
Gillig
has
notified
the
city
council
that
boney
will
be
the
city's
acting
fire
chief,
while
a
new
appointment
is
considered.
A
The
council
rejected
boehne
by
a
4-3
vote
tuesday,
but
the
city's
chief
administrative
officer,
mike
leonard
and
all
other
department
heads
were
approved.
The
mayor
now
has
90
days
to
move
forward
with
the
new
nominee,
who
will
be
the
chief
of
the
biloxi
fire
department,
if
approved,
here's
the
schedule
of
budget
meetings
which
will
be
at
city
hall
and
are
open
to
the
public.
A
C
First
thing
you
can
expect
is
the
unexpected.
As
we
deal
with
the
continuation
of
copen
19,
we
must
remain
flexible
and
anticipate
changes
to
our
procedures
based
on
changes
to
local
and
state
recommendations
and
mandates.
We
ask
for
your
continued
patience
and
helping
us
make
this
school
year
even
more
successful
than
last
school
year.
