A
A
This
week
the
city
of
biloxi
reopened,
four
back
bay
piers
that
had
been
damaged.
Oh
so
many
months
ago
by
hurricane
zeta
and
right
now.
Repairs
are
well
underway
on
the
coliseum,
pier,
but
now
open
for
the
public
enjoyment
are
the
piers
at
forest
avenue
the
one
known
as
the
t,
pier
the
old
ice
wharf
on
back
bay,
the
porter
avenue
north
and
the
oak
street
north
pier
biloxi
port
division
manager.
A
It's
the
same
story
at
oak
street
north,
which
is
a
former
dmr
pier
today,
that
pier
has
new
planking
and
at
the
small
city,
pier
at
the
north
end
of
porter
you'll
find
new
planking
as
well.
Our
favorite
of
the
four
piers
on
back
bay
has
to
be
the
storied
ice
wharf.
Today
it
has
all
the
modern
features.
You'd
expect
railings
ada
access
a
covered
pavilion
and
more,
but
back
in
the
day,
this
pier
was
a
roller
coaster.
A
A
Today
it
doesn't
have
all
that
excitement,
except
for
crossing
bay
view
avenue
to
get
to
the
pier,
but
the
ice
wharf
and
all
four
of
the
public
piers
along
back
bay
are
as
inviting
nonetheless
enjoy
storm
repairs
to
piers
generally
take
about
a
year,
and
these
four
are
later
than
that
they
say.
Supply
issues
also
delayed
the
work
which
has
cost
about
30
000.
So
far,
with
most
of
that
being
invested
on
the
ice
wharf,
the
city
hopes
to
have
a
follow-up
announcement
soon
on
the
municipal,
pier
in
front
of
the
coast
coliseum.
A
Meanwhile,
seymour
engineering
is
continuing
to
work
on
design
of
the
new
lighthouse,
pier
and,
of
course,
this
week
paving
continued
in
the
area
south
of
the
lighthouse
that
huge
parking
lot.
This
area
is
going
to
see
even
more
activity
come
february.
For
the
february
13th
dedication
of
the
fred
hayes
statue
and
on
back
bay
seymour
reports
that
concrete
is
being
poured
for
the
boardwalk
or
the
walkway
or
the
promenade
or
whatever
you
want
to
call
it
it's
between
forest
avenue
and
kensington,
and
it's
going
to
be
transformational.
A
And
now
this,
the
mississippi
department
of
environmental
quality's,
emergency
response,
division
commended
the
biloxi
fire
department
for
its
quick
response
to
an
overturned,
cement
truck
at
I-10
and
us-90.
The
other
day,
a
deq
rep
sent
a
note
of
commendation
to
biloxi
fire
chief
nick
geyser,
recognizing
firefighters
for
quickly
establishing
a
clay,
sorbent
dam.
What
that
did
was
contain
any
petroleum
or
oil
or
other
lubricants
from
entering
the
mississippi
sound
through
storm
drains
good
job
bfd.
A
The
city
council
this
week
approved
a
16
watt
subdivision
on
a
two
acre
site:
that's
south
of
us-90
and
west
of
veterans
avenue.
The
site
had
been
dormant
since
august
29
2005,
when
hurricane
katrina
demolished
the
cuckoo's
restaurant
that
had
stood
there
and
now,
all
these
years
later,
it's
been
okay
for
residential
or
short-term
rentals
developers
say
this
will
be
a
very
high-end
development
and
will
have
strict
design
covenants
front.
Porches
will
face
the
beach.
A
The
structures
will
be
elevated,
of
course,
but
wooden
pilings
will
be
prohibited
in
favor
of
concrete
or
block
pilings
hardy
plank
brick
or
stucco.
Siding
no
vinyl
will
be
used
along
with
metal
roofs
with
the
16
watts
of
varying
sizes,
but
a
minimum
of
three
thousand
square
feet.
They'll
have
three
to
five
bedrooms.
Each
construction
is
expected
to
begin
in
early
spring,
2022
and
developers
say
they're
already
seeing
interest
be
tv
is
showing
christmas
parades
three
times
a
day
this
month,
and
you
can
see
them
on
demand
anytime
on
the
city's
website.
A
It's
three
simple
clicks
right
here
to
get
to
the
city
of
biloxi
on
youtube,
then
right
here
at
videos
and
there
they
are,
with
a
host
of
other
recent
videos
of
note
from
the
city
of
biloxi,
we'll
have
info
on
the
wool
market.
Christmas
parade
that
rolls
on
saturday
and
your
entire
weekend,
preview
and
forecast
after
this.
B
And
now
for
the
latest,
on
the
coronavirus,
as
of
thursday
december,
the
9th
the
health
department
reports
nearly
750
new
cases
of
the
virus
statewide
in
a
24-hour
period.
Five
deaths
were
also
reported
in
harrison
county
13,
new
coveted
19
cases
were
reported
on
thursday
and
one
new
death.
Overall,
more
than
a
half
a
million
cases
of
the
virus
have
been
reported
throughout
mississippi.
Since
the
pandemic
began
in
early
2020
statewide,
more
than
ten
thousand
and
three
hundred
mississippians
have
died
from
covid19
in
harrison
county.
B
More
than
35
thousand
cases
of
the
virus
have
been
reported
with
560
deaths
at
the
hospitals.
We
are
beginning
to
see
an
uptick
in
cases
as
of
december,
the
7th
more
than
200
people
won
mississippi
hospitals
with
covet
19.
60
of
those
win
intensive
care
units
along
the
coast.
18
people
were
hospitalized
with
the
virus
and
six
of
those
were
intensive
care
units.
B
As
for
mississippi's
vaccination
rate
as
of
december,
the
9th
still
only
44
of
the
population
is
fully
vaccinated.
As
for
harrison
county,
43
percent
of
residents
are
reported
as
fully
vaccinated.
According
to
the
health
department,
on
friday
december,
the
17th
memorial
will
host
a
vaccination
event
at
the
dr
frank
g,
gruwich
senior
community
center
on
howard
avenue.
The
event
will
take
place
from
9
a.m,
to
2
p.m.
Walk-Ups
are
welcome,
but
appointments
are
preferred
to
schedule
an
appointment
for
friday
december.
The
17th
call
228-867-5000.
B
This
weekend
it
is
forecast
to
be
a
rainy
saturday,
but
sunday
is
expected
to
be
sunny.
Temperatures
for
the
weekend
range
from
a
low
in
the
mid
40s
to
a
high
in
the
lower
70s.
Well,
at
least
the
temperatures
look
nice
for
the
weekend.
Hopefully
the
rain
will
hold
off
for
the
annual
will
market
christmas
parade.
It
begins
on
saturday
at
2
p.m.
The
parade
is
set
to
roll
from
a
shortcut
road
and
end
at
the
wool
market
elementary
school
on
john
lee
road,
where
santa
will
be
waiting
to
greet
the
children.
B
Also,
this
weekend
is

gulf
coast
marathon
with
the
5k
and
kid
marathon
on
saturday
and
the
full
marathon
and
half
marathons
on
sunday.
The
marathons
will
take
place
along
the
beach
on
u.s
