A
I'm
Vincent
Creole
public
affairs
manager
for
the
city
of
Biloxi
and
I'm
here
to
record
today's
be
prepared
video,
we're
recording
this
update
on
Sunday
Easter
Sunday
April
12th
at
1:30.
In
the
afternoon.
We
began
these
videos
on
March
22
three
weeks
ago
today.
Back
then,
the
Mississippi
State
Department
of
Health
reported
249
cases
of
the
corona
virus.
A
Today,
three
weeks
later,
April
12th,
the
Mississippi
State
Department
of
Health
reports
that
there
are
two
thousand
seven
hundred
and
eighty-one
cases
of
the
corona
virus,
statewide,
that's
an
increase
of
139
cases,
statewide
in
the
past
24
hours
and
more
than
1,100
new
cases.
In
the
past
week
there
have
been
96
deaths,
statewide,
including
3,
since
yesterday
in
Harrison
County,
the
number
of
cases
is
110
positives,
which
is
an
increase
by
30
since
yesterday,
and
there
have
been
a
total
of
five
deaths
in
Harrison
County
attributed
to
the
corona
virus.
A
The
numbers
and
the
threat
are
still
out
there.
The
city
of
Biloxi
will
remain
on
emergency
staffing
levels
this
week,
except
for
police
and
fire
and
emergency
dispatchers.
They
will
be
fully
staffed.
Your
city
government
is
functioning,
but
we
ask
that
you
deal
with
us
via
phone
email
or
on
the
city's
website.
Non-Emergency
city
facilities
remain
closed.
We
remain
under
a
curfew.
No
one
should
be
on
the
streets
after
11
o'clock
and
you
really
should
only
travel
as
absolutely
necessary.
The
rest
of
the
day
parks
are
closed
after
6
p.m.
A
and
the
only
parts
of
the
park
that
are
open
are
the
walking
tracks.
You
will
remember
that
mayor
Gillis
talked
about
Fred
Hayes.
Yesterday,
in
the
50th
anniversary
of
Apollo
13,
it
was
Saturday
April,
11th
1970,
when
Apollo
13
took
off
and
what
a
great
day
it
was
for
Biloxi.
One
of
our
own
was
going
to
the
moon
right
now.
Fifty
years
ago,
the
Apollo
13
crew
is
about
24
hours
into
the
mission
to
the
moon.
A
It's
not
for
another
day
55
hours
into
the
mission,
in
fact
that
the
catastrophic
explosion
occurred
and
the
world
set
up
and
took
notice
of
this
epic
life-or-death
saga
like
mayor
Gillis,
says:
do
you
see
any
parallels
here?
The
astronauts
were
trained
on
what
to
do
and
that's
what
we've
been
doing
for
years
here
in
Biloxi
being
prepared.
We
use
this
hurricane
metaphor
so
often
in
discussing
the
situation
we're
in
today,
as
mayor
Gillard
said
the
other
day
we're
waiting
on
the
AI
to
pass.
A
The
fact
is,
it
hasn't
passed,
yet
we
don't
know
when
it's
going
to
pass.
It
might
be
later
this
week,
or
it
might
be
later
than
that
it
will
be
when
it's
going
to
be
we're
asking
you
to
sit
up
and
pay
attention
follow
the
advice.
All
you
have
to
do
is
be
vigilant.
You've
been
told
to
limit
travel
to
essential
trips.
Only
you've
been
told
to
keep
your
distance
for
the
most
part.
It's
on
the
honor
system,
there's
a
level
of
personal
responsibility.
A
We're
asking
you
to
do
the
right
thing
and
remember:
we
are
in
the
state
of
emergency
socialize
online
or
on
the
phone,
have
activities
for
the
household
call
on
the
elderly
or
infirm,
but
do
it
by
phone.
The
actions
you
take
could
put
your
family
and
friends
in
jeopardy.
That's
the
message
for
this
Easter
Sunday.
Generally,
it's
a
time
for
great
celebration.
Rejoicing
and
yes
reflection.
We
leave
you
this
Sunday
with
another
tribute
to
our
city.
You'd
expect
it
to
be
somber
and
reflective,
but
we
are
Biloxi.
B
Am
Biloxi
my
foundation
was
laid
by
immigrants,
hard
workers
who
saved
and
bought
schooners
built
factories
and
went
on
to
serve
Biloxi
as
doctors,
lawyers,
judges
and
public
I
in
Biloxi
my
ancient
live-oaks
line
beaches.
As
long
as
my
history,
my
waters
are
bound
with
fresh
seafood.
I
use
any
occasion
to
celebrate
life.
Here
I
am
Biloxi,
hundreds
of
thousands
come
to
my
shores
to
play
to
shop
and
when
the
Sun
Goes
Down
the
sky
lights
up
with
excitement,
I
am
Biloxi.
