From YouTube: Firefighter Awards Presentation
Description
The Biloxi Fire Department held its 2018 awards ceremony on Nov. 29. During the ceremony, a host of firefighters, individuals and businesses were recognized at the public event held at the Biloxi Civic Center.
A
Good
evening,
ladies
and
gentlemen,
welcome
to
the
Biloxi
fire
department's
annual
awards
ceremony.
My
name
is
Vincent
krill,
the
public
affairs
manager
for
the
city
of
Biloxi
and
I
will
be
your
master
of
ceremonies.
First,
is
the
procession
of
firefighters
and
they're
going
to
be
led
by
bagpiper
Quinn
chest
ant
and
he's
going
to
be
playing
Scotland?
The
brave.
B
E
D
Let's
pray
our
Lord's
own
word
in
holy
scripture
tells
us
where
two
or
three
are
gathered
together
in
his
name.
God
is
present.
She
is
with
great
confidence
that
we
bow
our
heads
and
pray
for
our
Lord's
blessing
and
guidance
over
to
celebration.
Tonight.
We
pray
that
God's
Holy
Spirit
will
fill
the
hearts
of
mine
of
all
presence,
as
we
honor
those
who
serve
the
others
so
well.
D
Blessed.
Are
you
O,
Lord,
God
God
of
mercy
to
who
your
son
gave
us
a
Marvel
example
of
charity
and
a
great
commandment
of
love
for
one
another,
send
down
your
blessings
now
on
your
servants,
who
so
generously
devote
themselves
to
helping
others
when
they
called
out
in
times
of
need
them
to
faithfully
serve
you
and
serving
their
neighbor?
We
asked
us
to
do
one
God,
god
of
us
all,
who
lives
and
reigns
with
the
son
in
the
holy
spirit
forever
and
ever
comin.
A
A
A
And
there
are
a
number
of
other
special
guests
that
we
have
with
us
this
evening,
representing
civic
minded
businesses
throughout
the
city,
fire
officials
from
neighboring
fire
departments.
We
are
going
to
recognize
them
during
the
course
of
the
program,
and
now
I
would
like
to
call
forward
the
director
of
the
Biloxi
Fire
Department
for
remarks
chief
joe
boney.
C
Boy
applause
are
hard
to
come
by
in
this
room.
Engine
I
would
like
to
thank
everyone
for
attending
the
second
annual
Biloxi
fire
department
metal
day
ceremony.
Our
Naugle
event
held
last
January,
proved
to
be
very
successful,
but
we
also
had
a
lot
of
catching
up
to
do
then.
So
tonight's
event
should
not
take
as
long
and
you
may
be
able
to
get
back
to
the
Saints
game
before
it's
over.
C
This
award
ceremony
allows
us
the
opportunity
to
recognize
citizens
and
businesses
in
our
community
who,
in
their
supporting
roles
throughout
the
year,
assist
us
in
carrying
out
our
mission.
Please
let
me
say
how
much
we
appreciate
your
help.
We
certainly
would
not
be
able
to
accomplish
all
of
what
we
do
on
our
own.
You
are
the
integral
part
that
collectively
make
the
community
a
vibrant
and
amazing
place
to
live
work
and
play.
C
In
addition,
we'd
like
to
recognize
some
of
our
many
First
Responder
partners
who
work
seamlessly
with
us
on
numerous
special
events
and
emergency
incidents
to
you.
We
owe
a
debt
of
gratitude.
Your
collaborative
efforts
enable
us
to
do
our
job
better,
as
well
as
ensure
the
well-being
of
our
citizens
and
visitors,
but
this
event
also
provides
us
an
opportunity
as
a
department
to
come
together
with
the
community.
C
We
serve
in
order
to
recognize
and
pay
tribute
to
our
members
who
have
been
nominated
by
their
peers
and
met
the
criteria
for
distinguished
service
to
others
in
the
last
year
to
the
families
of
our
members.
Thank
you.
I
know
firsthand
what
it
means
to
have
support
of
a
family,
and
we
do
appreciate
all
that
you
do
for
us
to
our
elected
officials
here
this
evening.
Thank
you
for
the
support
you
provide
us
all
year
long.
So,
let's
get
started
Vincent
before.
G
Thank
You
Vincent:
this
is
a
very
special
day.
You
know
nothing.
I,
don't
get
off
and
get
opportunity
to
see
so
many
firefighters
in
the
room.
But
let
me
say
it:
this
is
a
special
day,
but
everybody
put
this
together
and
it
really
is
meaningful
for
the
citizens
of
Block
C
and
for
me,
you're,
the
administration
mic
and
you
know
Joe
hit
it
right.
You
know
I
want
to
thank
the
families
and
I
appreciate
the
families
that
that
enable
your
your
spouses
to
do
what
they've
done
for
the
city.
G
G
So
that's
what
I
want
pet
before,
but
you
know
when
you
think
about
it.
You
know
I
might
not
know
each
one
of
you
by
name
but
I
will
before
it's
over
with
and
don't
think
for
one
minute
that
everybody
that
that
you
support,
you
know
doesn't
appreciate
you.
We
would
do
as
much
and
we
will
is
dude
from
the
administration
and
from
the
council
will
do
what
it
takes
to
keep
you
the
best
fire
department
in
Mississippi.
So
I,
thank
you
and
let's
get
on
with
the
program.
A
We're
gonna
have
the
presentation
of
awards
and
let
me
tell
you
what
we're
gonna
do
tonight.
We
are
going
to
be
recognizing
at
least
eleven
acts
of
bravery
and
gallantry
that
have
occurred
in
the
past
year
alone.
We
are
going
to
recognize
civic
minded
businesses
that
are
here
with
us.
We
are
gonna,
recognize
individuals,
and
we
are
also
going
to
recognize
firefighters
of
the
year
who
have
been
named
by
other
organizations
and
then
we're
gonna
wrap
up
the
evening
with
the
fire
chief's
award
and
we
are
gonna
do
all
of
that.
A
So
we
can
also
have
adequate
time
for
the
think.
There's
a
football
game
or
something
on
tonight.
I
have
worked
for
the
city
for
two
more
than
20
years,
and
I
want
to
say
that
I've
worked
for
one
other
mayor
and
then
there
was
a
period
when
all
of
us
in
the
room
had
five
or
six
mayor's
I,
think
that
was
like
during
a
three
or
four
week
period,
but
every
one
of
them
to
a
person.
A
One
of
the
first
things
that
they
point
out
as
a
as
a
point
of
pride
for
the
city
of
Biloxi
has
been
the
Biloxi
fire
department
and
the
Biloxi
Police
Department
I'm
fortunate
to
see
that
firsthand
every
day
we
like
to
say,
we
have
the
best-trained,
the
best-equipped
and
yes,
the
best-paid
police
and
fire
departments
of
any
city
our
size
anywhere
in
the
world.
That's
a
testament
to
all
of
you
in
this
room
and
you're
going
to
be
acknowledged
this
evening.
So
thank
you
for
being
here.
A
Now
the
order
of
the
awards,
the
EMT
recognition.
This
is
presented
to
those
employees
who
have
been
nationally
certified
as
emergency
medical
technicians.
This
award
shall
consist
of
a
lapel
pin

receiving
recognition
for
becoming
an
EMT
in
2018
I
call
you
forward
Nick
Alan
Morgan,
how
andrew
rudolph
and
michael
woods.
A
And
now,
and
now
for
the
certificate
of
commendation,
this
certificate
is
awarded
to
the
member
and
our
citizens,
who
have
made
a
significant
contribution
to
the
department
and
the
city
that
merits
recognition
from
the
fire
chief.
This
award
shall
consist
of
a
letter
and
our
certificate
members
and
our
citizens
receiving
a
letter
and
certificate
of
commendation
are
in
recognition
and
sincere
appreciation
for
28
years
of
distinguished
service
and
for
the
outstanding
dedication
you
have
provided
to
the
Biloxi
Fire
Department
Deputy
Chief,
John
Jennings.
A
A
On
January
9th
2018,
while
off-duty
and
just
prior
to
reporting
for
work,
firefighters,
geoff
hinton,
michael
lurex
and
travis
sexton,
encountered
a
motor
vehicle
accident
involving
two
vehicles
and
a
school
bus.
All
three
individual
firefighters
immediately
began
to
provide
assistance
to
the
individuals
involved
in
the
accident,
but
before
the
arrival
of
before
the
arrival
of
other
first
responders,
there
were
no
substantial
injuries
to
those
involved.
But
these
three
off-duty
firefighters
went
above
and
beyond.
The
call
of
duty
sits
to
assist
citizens
in
distress.
A
And
now
I
have
certificates
of
appreciation.
Any
officer
of
the
department
may
send
a
letter
of
appreciation
to
any
member
citizen
or
group
organization
etc
for
their
contribution
and
our
vital
support
in
various
events
approved
by
the
department.
This
shall
consist
of
a
letter
and
our
certificate
I
call
forward
sherry
bell,
I.
A
A
A
We
now
have
longevity

These
longevity

are

to
those

as
a

who

A
On
on
July
7th
2018,
the
crews
of
engine
8
and
air
1
responded
to
a
two
vehicle
accident
that
left
both
vehicles
in
a
ditch.
One
driver
was
able
to
get
out,
but
the
other
driver
was
trapped
and
required.
Extrication
the
patient

a
broken

the
vehicle,
both

position
of
the
vehicle
in
the
water
and
a
steep
ravine
made
for
a
challenging
rescue.
A
However,
the
quick
actions
and
calm
demeanor
of
the
firefighters
resulted
in
a
positive
outcome
for
the
injured
patient,
the
overall,

professionalism
and

aided
in
the
swift
overall
mitigation,

and

A
A
On
July

2018,
the
crews
of

one
responded
to
a
call
for
assistance
in
locating
a
mentally
handicapped
individual
who
had
wandered
from
a
campsite
at
the
Cajun
RV
park.
The
crews
conducted
a
search
in
the
surrounding
area.
The
individual
who
was
confused
and
disoriented
was
located
two
miles
away
from
the
campsite.
A
After
nearly
an
hour
and
a
half
of
searching,
the
crew
displayed
extraordinary
skill
and
dedication,
while
conducting
the
search
and
compassion
to
the
individual
once
he
was
found
their
professionalism

A
We
now
move
to
the
firefighter
or
more
apt
firefighters
of
the
year.
This
is
presented
to
those
employees
who
have
been
awarded
this
citation
by
outside
organizations.
This
award
shall
consist
of
a
uniform
ribbon
and
certificate
members
receiving
recognition
for
being
chosen
as
Elks
Lodge
606
firefighters
of
the
year.
I
call
you
forward
as
captain
Mac
Powell
captain
robert
wykel,
firefighters,
Daryl,
Bradley,
Derek,
gates,
Morgan
Justin,
Lopez
and
Mickey
Wars
Ella.
A
In
January
2017,
an
ef3
tornado
caused
severe
damage
in
the
towns
of
Hattiesburg
and
peddle,
leaving
four
dead
and
many
more
injured.
The
West
End
hose
company
number
three
fire
museum
in
conjunction
with
the
city
of
Biloxi,
sponsored
a
relief
trip
to
the
affected
areas.
The
primary
focus
was
to
help
public
safety
personnel
with
repairs
to
their
homes,
because
local
emergency
response
operations
were
still
ongoing
and
many
police
and
firefighters
did
not
have
time
to
take
care
of
their
own
property.
A
These
firefighters
were
among
several
members
of
the
Biloxi
Fire
Department,
who
volunteered
their
time
and
skills,
including
help
with
demolition
and
heavy
equipment
operation.
These
firefighters,
traveled
to
Hattiesburg
and
peddle
each
day
to
put
in
a
full
day's
work
and
returned
home
each
evening.
At
the
end
of
the
week,
14
homeowners
had
been
helped
with
their
properties.
Their
actions
represent
the
caring
and
dedication
that
best
reflects
the
Biloxi
Fire
Department's
commitment
to
providing
service
to
others,
whether
on
or
off
duty.
A
A
On
September
17th
2017
firefighter

Kenny
Matlock
was
returning
home
after
working
his
24
hour
shift
just
south
of

He
noticed
a
truck
had
gone
off
the
road
into
a
ditch
when
he
stopped
to
assess
when
he
stopped
to
assess
the
situation.
Kenny
discovered
the
vehicle
was
quickly
filling
with
water
and
the
driver
who
was
badly
injured.
With
the
leg.
Laceration
was
still
trapped
inside
Kenny
quickly
released
a
driver's
seat
belt
and
carried
him
to
safety
remaining
with
the
patient
until
the
local
emergency
personnel
arrived
for
your
professionalism,
skills
and
life-saving
endeavors.
A
A
And
now,
and
now
we
move
to
the
life-saving

This
is
presented
to
those
employees

the
saving
of
a
human
life
or

This
award
shall
consist
of

necessary
equipment
and
then,
along
with
the
rest
of
the
crew,
performed
rescue
breathing
until
AMR
arrived
on
the
scene.
The
firefighters
continued
with
rescue
breathing
while
AMR
administered
medication
to
the
patient,
which
resulted
in
the
patient
becoming
responsive,
alert
and
breathing

The

The
firefighters,
along

decided
to
perform
the

before
the

lost
his

After
about
20

of
performing
the

We

This
is
presented
to
those
employees
recognized
for
this
specific
citation.
The
medal
of
merit
may
be
granted
to
any
member
of
the
department
who
has
demonstrated
an
extreme
degree

or

to
the

of
his

This
award
shall
consist
of
a
metal
uniform
ribbon
and
certificate.
I
call
forward
inspectors
will
fairly
Caleb
Hudson
Bryan
McCool,
McLeod
and
Bobby
Powell.
A
You
heard
us
make
reference
to
it
earlier
when
we
were
recognizing
businesses
each
year,
the
Biloxi
Fire
Department
hosts
the
annual
fire
academy
for
kids
workshop
during
this
free
two
week
long
workshop
area,
children

taught
life-saving
techniques
by
the
fire

and
other
agencies,
including
AMR

MDOT,
in

The
program's
focus
is
to
educate
the
children
in
an
effort
to
reduce
the
number
of
fire
related
fatalities
in
Mississippi.
A
The
inspectors
of
the
fire
prevention
division
worked
many
hours
weeks
and
months
in
advance
to
ensure
the
event
is
successful,
including
securing
donations
from
our
businesses
in
the
city
for
snacks
and
drinks
throughout
the
week,
as
well
as
participating
in
the
Academy's
class
instruction.
The
inspectors
make
the
event
both
fun
and
educational,
and
it
is
always
a
hugely
popular
success.
A
A
We're
going
to
make
this
recognition,

on

The

to

ensure
the

would
reach
the

Subsequently,

Let's
acknowledge
them.
A
And
now
I
think
that
all
of
you
may
be
seated.
We
come
to
the
portion
of
the
evening
where
we
present
the
film
McCabe
five
bugle
award.
This
is
also
known
as
the
Chiefs
award.
This
is
presented
to
those
employees
recognized
for
this
specific
citation.
Phil
McCabe
was
the
first
chief
of
the
Biloxi
fire
department.
He
served
from
September
1883
to
September
1894.
He
helped
to
organize
the
first
fire
company,
which
was
called
volunteer
fire
company
number
one.
A
It
was
formed
on
September
19th
1883
that
is
generally
considered
to
be
the
origin
of
the
Biloxi
fire
department.
As
we
know
it
today,
the
Phil
McCabe
five
bugle
award
may
be
granted
to
any
member
of
the
department
who
models
the
mission
and
vision
of
the
department
who
exemplifies
the
departmental
values
of
strength,
honor
excellence,
dedication
and
service
and
who
lives
the
department
motto
of
always
ready
with
willing
hearts.
The
selection
will
be
made
at
the
sole
discretion
of
the
fire
chief
based
on
observed,
behavior
and
attitude
during
the
previous
year.
A
C
It
didn't
take
a
lot
of
decision-making
on
my
part
to
choose
who
would
receive
this
year's
Phil,
Makeba
ward,
I
hope
you
will
all
agree
that,
though
these
there
are
members
who
may
be
just
as
deserving.
It
was
my
belief
that
this
is
just
the
right
time
to
recognize
this
particular
member.
He
hired
on
the
department
in
November
of
1994
and
currently
holds
the
rank
of
firefighter.
Three
I
have
on
occasion
had
the
pleasure
to
serve
with
him
and
have
always
known
him
to
be
a
motivated,
dedicated
professional.
C
C
First
thought
he
would
not
be
the
one
you
would
first
think
of
when
thinking
of
a
motivator.
However,
when
you
take
the
time
to
sit
and
talk
to
this
man
and
really
get
to
know
him,
you
would
have
to
agree.
That,
in
fact,
is
the
idea
of
what
a
public
servant
should
be.
He
possesses
a
natural
ability
to
inspire
others
through
his
general
gentle
encouraging
actions
over
the
past
year,
so
this
firefighter
has
been
dealing
with
the
myriad
of
health
issues.
C
C
He
is
a
humble
man,
a
man
who
takes
care
of
his
family,
the
man
who
was
a
friend
to
all
his
attained,
a
keen
insight
into
what
is
important
more
so
than
most
of
us.
Do
he
comprehends
the
values
of
gratitude
of
being
thankful
for
every
single
moment
of
every
day
and
I'm
sure
anyone
has
had
the
good
fortune
to
meet
and
talk
to
him
would
agree.
C
One
who
exemplifies
the
department
of
values
of
strength,
excellence,
dedication
and
service
I
can
think
of
no
one
who
has
endured
what
this
man
has
yet
maintains
his
values
and
ethics.
He
continues
to
grow
and
teach
through
example.
His
drive
and
love
of
life
inspires
me
every
day
and
so
for
this
I
would
ask
that
you
join
me
in
recognizing
firefighter
Darren
interests.
This
year
is
2018
recipient
of
the
year.
A
Please
remain
standing.
I
would
like
to
thank
our
sponsors.
Well.
First,
I
want
to
thank
all
the
firefighters
and
their
families
and
the
businesses
and
every
all
of
our
partner
agencies
for
being
here
tonight.
I
want
to
thank
our
sponsors.
You
hear
about
them.
Throughout
the
year
going
across
the
across
the
country,
literally

We
want
to
thank
Walmart.
We
want
to
thank
IP.
We
want
to
thank
Silver
Slipper,
let's
Clark
Emily
Burke.
Let's
thank
these.
People
keep
Crosby.
A
There
there
is
a
photo
wall
that
is
set
up
over
there
for
those
who
want
to
take
pictures.
Now,
I
call
forward
to
close
out
tonight's
ceremony,
the
Captain
James
Earl
Davis
fire
chaplain
for
the
Biloxi
Fire
Department
and
James
Jason
I
apologize.
Captain
Jason
Davis
is
going
to
come
forward
with
the
firefighters
prayer
at
the
conclusion
of
the
firefighters
prayer.
We're
gonna
have
amazing
grace
by
bagpiper
Quinn
and
chest
tant.
H
When
I
am
called
to
duty
God,
wherever
the
flames
may
rage,
give
me
the
strength
to
save
a
life
whatever
be
its
age.
Help
me
to
embrace
a
little
child
before
it's
too
late
or
save
an
older
person
from
the
horror
of
the
that
fate
enable
me
to
be
alert
and
hear
the
weakest
shout
and
quickly
and
efficiently
put
the
fire
out.
H
A
Ladies
and
gentlemen,
you
have
you've,
heard
heartfelt
appreciation
and
acknowledgement
from
Mayor
Gillick
earlier
you
have
earned
the
commendation
from
your
command
staff.
Mayor
Gillis
likes
to
say
we
are
Biloxi,
you
are
not
Biloxi.
You
are
Biloxi's
front
whine.
Thank
all
of
you
for
being
here
this
evening.
God
bless
all
of
you
throughout
the
holidays.
This
concludes
our
program.
