Description
Latest numbers; masking wear; guidelines; Keesler video
A
Hello,
my
name
is
Vincent
creel
public
affairs
manager
for
the
city
of
Biloxi.
I
am
here
to
deliver
today's
be
prepared
report.
This
is
being
recorded
on
Sunday
May
3
2020
at
2:00.
In
the
afternoon.
The
Mississippi
Department
of
Health
this
afternoon
says
that
there
have
been
109
new
cases
of
the
corona
virus
reported
in
the
past
24
hours
throughout
the
state.
There
also
have
been
12
deaths
attributed
to
the
corona
virus
statewide
in
the
past
24
hours.
A
This
chart
shows
the
statewide
totals
over
the
past
14
days
in
Harrison
County,
no
new
cases
were
reported
in
the
past
24
hours.
This
chart
shows
the
downward
trajectory
that
we've
seen
for
more
than
14
days
now
in
Jackson
County,
no
new
cases
were
reported
and
one
new
case
was
reported
in
Hancock
County
each
day
we
show
you
these
charts
and
they
are
predicated
on
the
14
day
time
line
established
in
the
White
House
guidelines.
The
opening
up
America
again
plan
calls
for
a
14
day
downward
trajectory
in
numbers.
A
A
The
curfew
is
now
lifted
in
Biloxi
this
week
the
mayor
is
expected
to
announce
that
public
parks
in
Biloxi
are
expected
to
return
to
their
normal
hours.
But
please
remember
dr.
Thomas
Dobbs,
the
state's
top
health
off
sir
says
that
you
should
wear
a
mask
when
you
go
out
in
public.
The
opening
up,
Biloxi,
again
plan
says
workers
should
wear
masks
wearing
a
mask
in
public.
A
Is
the
safe,
easy
thing
to
do
for
you
for
your
family
and
for
those
you
encounter
under
the
governor's
safer
at
home
order
parks
are
primarily
open
for
walking
tracks
and
individual
recreation.
Basketball
is
a
close-contact
activity,
so
basketball
courts
are
not
supposed
to
be
open
in
public
parks.
There
also
has
been
an
issue
with
social
distancing
on
disc
golf
in
public
parks,
so
that
had
been
and
continues
to
be
suspended
as
well.
Mayor
Gillis
has
said.
Non-Emergency
municipal
offices
in
Biloxi
would
remain
closed
to
walk
in
traffic.
A
You
can
do
business
with
the
city,
but
try
to
do
it
by
phone
by
email
or
through
the
city's
website,
Biloxi
MS
dot
US.
The
governor
has
said
he
expected
to
announce
on
Monday
the
easing
of
some
of
the
restrictions
that
are
now
in
his
safer
at
home
order.
We
again
ask
the
business
community
and
the
public
to
please
review
and
adhere
to
the
opening
of
Biloxi
again
guidelines.
A
These
guidelines
do
not
open
in
any
new
businesses
or
any
businesses
that
are
not
already
open.
However,
it
does
tell
you
how
you
can
operate
safely.
These
are
guidelines
for
customers
and
employees.
For
when
the
governor
says
you
can
open
the
public
needs
to
know
that
businesses
in
Biloxi
are
all
taken,
prudent
and
responsible
precautions.
As
have
been
outlined.
Please
make
good
decisions.
You
can
see
the
guidelines
for
opening
up
Biloxi
again
online
now
on
the
city
website
and
everybody
in
Biloxi
will
see
it
in
their
mailbox
mid
week
for
the
record.
A
A
Restaurants
can
only
offer
takeout
our
delivery,
dining
rooms,
even
outdoor
dining,
is
not
allowed
under
the
governor's
executive
order
when
he
gives
the
okay
we're
suggesting
outdoor
dining
is
encouraged,
but
we
don't
have
that
words.
Yet
that's
today's
report,
we'll
see
you
here
again
tomorrow
on
behalf
of
Mayor
Gilles
and
the
members
of
the
Biloxi
City
Council.
We
say
god
bless
you
and
God
bless
Biloxi.
We
leave
you
today
with
another
chestnut
from
our
past.
We've
shown
you
America's
Riviera,
which
is
a
travel
log
from
the
1960s.
It's
pre
Camille
Biloxi.
A
B
Rising
above
the
waters
of
the
Gulf
of
Mexico
is
his
support.
In
1699,
hundreds
of
Biloxi
Mississippi
built
the
first
outpost
of
the
vast
Louisiana
territory
on
the
site
of
that
ancient
barricade
stands
fourth
Massachusetts
established
during
the
War
Between,
the
States.
Today,
it's
the
mecca,
thousands
of
tourists
who
annually
visit
modern
Biloxi
on
the
mainland.
Many
strange
relics
await
the
curious
within
these
old
walls.
A
particular
interest
is
the
antiquated
cannonball
heater.
B
Various
battles
which
raged
about
Ship
Island
in
the
long-ago
cannon
is
no
longer
boom
over
Port
Massachusetts
Rapids,
but
one
remains
as
a
showpiece,
silently
keeping
its
lonely
vigil
beneath
a
peaceful
sky
watch
during
the
night
by
a
friendly
light
now
guiding
Mariners,
where
once
pirate
campfires
flickered
and
died.
This
is
Biloxi
on
American
Riviera,
fabulous,
landmark
on
the
equally
fabulous
skylines
of
America
legend
and
lore
mingled
with
the
world
of
today.
B
In
this
amazing
Peninsula
City
the
shores
where
Indians,
Buccaneers
and
explorers
once
trod
are
lined
with
picturesque
ducks
and
ships
where
skippers
for
generations
have
sailed
the
seas
in
search
of
marine
life.
Although
noted
as
a
year-round,
pleasure
resort
boasting
America's
largest
Air
Forces
technical
station
and
many
historical
points
of
interest,
it's
also
famous
as
the
nation's
fish
basket
and
as
the
world's
largest
shrimp
and
oyster
canning
center,
with
a
fleet
of
almost
a
thousand
crab
led
by
the
power
shrimp
trawlers
and
when
they
dock
with
a
catch.
B
The
city's
aroused
from
slumber
by
a
wildly
blowing
whistles
signal
for
All
Hands
to
appear
at
their
appointed
tasks.
Speed
is
the
essence
of
this
billion-dollar
industry.
From
the
moment
the
hatches
are
opened
and
the
catch
conveyed
from
its
protective
sheath
of
ice
to
the
packing
plants.
The
work
of
processing
begins
and
some
5,000
men
and
women
employed
in
this
vital
Enterprise
fall
to
we'll
skilled
hands
preside
over
the
conveyor
belts,
as
the
shrimp
are
cold
and
graded
in
some
30-odd
establishments,
which
pack
and
ship
them
only.
B
The
finest
are
acceptable
for
the
markets
of
the
world.
Every
step
of
the
processing
from
boat
hatch
to
culling
to
heading
is
watched
by
the
sharp
eyes
of
trained
federal
biologists
who
guard
the
public
welfare.
From
the
moment.
The
catch
is
made
until
it's
packed
and
weighed
and
labelled
in
individual
containers
around
the
calendar.
Drydock
facilities
provide
for
the
care
and
maintenance
of
Biloxi's
fishing,
shrimping
and
oyster
fleet.
No
barnacle
is
overlooked.
B
No
caulking
weakness
ignored
by
seafaring
men,
rigging,
hoses,
windlass
and
stanchion
are
under
constant
scrutiny
before
and
after
every
catch,
there
must
be
no
hitches
in
working
gear.
No
weakness
in
a
single
strand
of
net
no
ship
left
unprepared
for
another
voice
over
all
rests
the
constant
surveillance
of
men
who
police
the
surrounding
water
heed
to
pounce
upon
possible
violators
of
regulations.
Such
instances,
however,
are
rare
and
deep,
but
Biloxi
America's.
Third
oldest
city
is
not
all
water
fun
activity
over
modern
highways,
cars
from
all
parts
of
the
country
carry
eager
tourists.
B
The
city's
sidewalks
are
flanked
by
smart
shops
and
prosperous
business
establishments,
reflecting
both
the
old
and
the
new,
much
as
they
mingle
in
perfect
harmony
along
the
streets
of
Biloxi's
residential
section,
where
magnificent
trees
stand
guard
over
sleeping
centuries.
This
giant
oak,
an
estimated
three
to
five
hundred
years
old,
is
22
feet
around
at
four
feet
above
the
ground,
its
longest
branch
extending
75
feet
toward
this
gracious
old
home.
A
fine
example
of
Antebellum
architecture
set
like
a
jewel
in
its
spacious
grounds.
B
One's
imagination
takes
flight
as
the
eye
travels
about
and
comes
to
rest
on
its
attendant
slave
house.
Nearby.
Many
Biloxi
homes
were
hand-built
of
hand
brakes,
while
others
features
splendid.
Ornamentation
of
intricate
iron
grillwork
withstanding
the
ravages
of
time
with
lasting
charm.
This
home
erected
in
1808
in
pay.
B
Now,
the
chamber
of
commerce,
this
home,
sheltered
the
keepers
of
the
century-old
White
House,
tended
by
mother
and
daughter
for
62
years,
but
most
famous
of
Biloxi's
landmarks
is
bull,
wah,
final
home
of
Jefferson
Davis
first,
and
only
president
of
the
Confederate
States
of
America
shaded
by
stately
mosque,
whiskered
oaks,
bull
bar
and
its
gardens,
and
our
National
Shrine,
where
thousands
pay
silent
tribute
to
the
memory
of
a
great
American
in
this
home,
Jefferson
Davis
lived
his
declining
years.
Writing
his
monumental
work,
the
rise
and
fall
of
the
Confederate
government.
B
It's
happy
landings
for
the
men
in
uniform
or
a
part
of
their
year-round
guests
guests
to
ponder
such
famous
first
as
the
seawall
over
26
miles
long
lining
the
sames,
where
sunday
there's
a
choir
code
of
Canon
or
swimmers
Dysport
themselves
in
the
warm
Gulf
waters,
offshore
sailing
craft
unfurl.
Their
canvas
to
the
breeze
and
racing
enthusiasts
enjoy
the
thrill
of
competition
and
the
sting
of
salty
spring
as
sailing
skill
and
friendly
wind
determined.
The
Victor
and
the
vanquished
deep-sea
fisherman's
paradise.
A
few
miles
offshore,
with
the
help
of
a
capable
lookout
and
friendly
seagulls.
