The
swim
school
program
for
Biloxi
started
30
years
ago,
and
it
was
a
way
for
us
to
help
educate
all
of
our
first
graders
about
water
safety
since
we're
surrounded
by
water
on
three
sides.
Since
everybody
in
Biloxi
comes
in
contact
with
their
water
at
some
point
during
their
life,
we
found
it
important
to
continue
the
program.
Year
after
year.
Some
of
the
kids
come
to
us
and
they've
never
been
exposed
to
water
or
swim.
A
Lessons
before
some
of
them
have
already
experienced
swim
lessons
and
may
even
be
on
the
swim
team,
we'll
evaluate
them
on
their
first
day
and
then
break
them
up
into
groups
and
work
with
them
from
there.
We
make
it
a
lot
of
fun
for
them
they
have
a
great
time,
but
at
the
end
of
the
day,
it's
all
about
safety
and
exposing
them
to
situations
they
may
not
have
ever
encountered
before.
In
addition
to
teaching
swimming
skills,
they'll
also
learn
about
lifejackets
and
safety
on
the
water.
A
When
you're
in
a
boat
they'll
learn
about
how
to
help
a
friend
if
they're
starting
to
struggle
the
swim
program
starts
with
first
graders,
and
then
we
have
programs
that
advance
from
there
into
fifth
and
sixth
grade
after-school
swimming,
and
then
we
also
have
the
high
school
swim
team.
The
first
grade
program
is
really
a
stepping
stone
for
all
other
swim
programming's.
It
leads
into
high
school
swimming
and
our
high
school
swim
program
continues
to
grow
because
of
the
development
at
the
bottom
levels.
B
So
I
missed
with
Neal
and
our
class
got
to
come
swimming
this
week.
We
do
it
for
two
weeks
we
get
to
spend
about
an
hour
in
the
pool,
and
it's
something
really
great.
Our
kids
always
love
it.
I
have
kids
who
come
terrified
of
the
water
and
leave
just
so
excited
to
go
swimming
and
not
just
so
excited.
They
know
how
to
be
safe,
around
water
and
living
on
the
Gulf
Coast.
It's
so
important
to
know
how
to
swim
and
to
be
safe
around
the
water,
because
we
are
surrounded
by
it.
C
Hi
I'm
Sarah
I
used
to
think
I.
Wasn't
a
very
good
swimmer,
so
I
started
over
there,
but
then
one
of
what
them.
But
then,
when
mr.
Sarge
taught
me
to
swim,
I
could
so
then
I
learned
I
could
float
so
I
went
over
here.
I
first
I
was
a
little
nervous
to
swim
in
the
deep
end,
but
then
once
I
tried
it,
it
was.
It
was
all
good
I'm
not
going
to
swim
flat.
