A
The
commission
is
comprised
of
nine
residents
who
volunteer
their
time
and
energy
to
help
make
bloomington
a
great
place
to
be
a
kid
one
of
the
ways
the
commission
wants
to
empower
and
nurture
the
children
and
youth
in
our
community
is
by
recognizing
their
efforts
and
successes.
Thus,
the
swagger
awards
was
created.

B
Despite
the
current
pandemic,
my
courageous
friend
returned
to
benford
elementary
school
as
a
fifth
grader
in
the
almost
two
years
that
I've
gotten
to
know
him.
He
has
the
tenacity
to
help
him
overcome
any
challenge
that
comes
his
way.
Not
only
is
he
a
great
student,
he
is
a
role
model
among
his
peers,
especially
to
his
three
younger
siblings.
This
amazing
10
year
old,
is
the
proudest
and
oldest
brother
of
three
boys
who
are
ages.
6,
7
and
eight.
B
My
young
friend
naturally
leads
protects
and
encourages
his
peers
to
do
the
right
thing.
He's
intelligent,
vocal,
respectful
stands
out
for
justice,
asks
questions
with
the
desire
to
learn
and
truly
desires,
to
make
a
difference
in
the
world
his
ability
to
self-advocate
and
provide
empathy
and
compassion
to
his
brothers
and
peers
have
greatly
developed.
He
is
simply
a
friend
that
you
can
count
on
with
much
more
amazing
qualities
of
outstanding
character
and
efforts
that
can
be
seen
in
his
daily
interactions
with
adults,
peers
and
family.
How
do
I
know
this?
B
Just
this
summer
my
friend
participated
in
the
youth
empowerment
services
program
and
was
an
active
participant
in
the
social
emotional
learning
special
program.
This
program
was
designed
to
highlight
the
importance
of
diversity,
social
justice
and
self-love.
My
friend
was
a
stand-up
participant.
He
often
was
seen
encouraging
his
peers
to
engage
and
participate.
B
He
was
a
leader
in
that
he
added
value
to
the
conversation
posed
questions
and
suggested
solutions
to
the
racial
issues
we
see
in
america.
He
assisted
his
peers
with
learning
the
material
and
took
responsibility
for
the
groups,
as
he
previously
participated
in
a
similar
social
emotional
learning
program.
Once
before.

I
am
beyond
honored
to
nominate
tara,
ganguly
senior
at
bloomington
high
school
north
for
the
swagger
awards
of
2020.
tara
started
her
time
with
monroe
county
youth
council
working
with
the
league
of
women
voters.
She
was
registering
folks
to
vote
already
having
an
impact
on
social
justice
before
she
could
even
vote
herself.
D
Hello,
my
name
is
tara
gongouli
and
I'm
a
senior
at
bloomington
high
school
north
first,
I'd
like
to
thank
stephanie
solomon,
one
of
my
adult
allies
on
the
monroe
county
youth
council.
I'm
so
grateful
to
her
for
nominating
me
for
this
award
and
for
her
guidance
for
the
council
and
for
me
personally
during
my
high
school
years.
D
I
would
also
like
to
thank
the
commission
on
the
status
of
children
and
youth
for
selecting
me
for
this
award.
I
have
served
on
the
monroe
county
youth
council
for
four
years.
Doing
so
has
taught
me
how
to
engage
others
in
service
as
well
as
organize
around
topics.
I'm
passionate
about
through
my
work
with
mcyc
I
have
planned
and
led
projects
focused
on
civic
engagement,
environmental
health
and
anti-racism.
D
The
most
rewarding
part
of
this
service
has
been
seeing
other
youth
in
my
community
express
their
passion
for
volunteering
and
advocacy
in
addition
to
motivating
others
to
volunteer.
My
community
service
has
helped
me
grow
as
a
person.
I've
learned
how
to
communicate
with
adults
set
and
stick
to
deadlines,
manage
projects
and
balance
them
with
my
school
work.
When
youth
give
back
by
volunteering,
they
not
only
aid
their
own
development,
they
enrich
our
community
as
a
whole.
D

He
is
an
english
language
learner
who
immigrated
from
columbia
midway
through
his
sophomore

and
arrived
speaking
little
english.
Yet
he
has
persevered
taking
a
full
complement
of
classes
while
working
until
the
quarantine
began.
E
Fabian
has
demonstrated
tremendous
kindness
and
leadership
in
the
school,
particularly
with
new
english

He
helps
newcomers
navigate.
The
complexities
of
the
block
schedule,
translates
assignments
for
them
and
works
with
them
to
learn
the
intricacies
of
life
in
a
u.s
high
school,
including
during
hybrid

online
instruction.
