A
Hi,
this
is
mayor
john
hamilton,
it's
monday
september,
13
2021.
I
just
wanted
to
give
an
update
on
the
pandemic,
we're
still
in
very
serious
shape
numbers
much
higher
than
they
were
weeks
ago
in
terms
of
hospitalizations
and
deaths
and
positivity
rates.
We
definitely
have
the
delta
surge
happening.
It's
really
hitting
unvaccinated
people.
I
will
note
that
our
county
monroe
county,
our
community,
is
among
the
very
best
in
the
state
of
indiana
top
three
counties
in
terms
of
ratings.
A
That's
really
important
and
helpful,
and
it's
something
that,
while
we
are
not
out
of
the
woods
and
still
very
serious
health
risks
for
particularly
the
unvaccinated
it's
it's
important
to
note
that
steps
we
have
taken
have
helped
us
get
there.
I
we
don't
know
all
of
this.
Of
course
it's
kind
of
complicated,
but
I'd
say
there
are
at
least
three
things
that
are
probably
helping
us
substantially
one.
A
We
have
been
more
aggressive
than
the
state
in
trying
to
put
in
place
regulations
to
protect
people,
we're
the
only
county
in
the
state
with
a
mass
mandate,
indoor
mass
mandate
right
now.
As
far
as
I
know,
we
were
an
early
state
as
county
community
to
embrace
masking
and
to
require
masking
and
to
limit
gathering
sizes
and
we've
been
more
controlled
tighter
than
the
state,
and
I
think
that
has
helped
us.
We've
worked
very
closely
together
and
I
think
that
shows
in
in
our
trajectory
in
numbers.
A
So
thank
you
to
those
institutions
and
thank
you
in
fact,
to
the
federal
government
president
biden
for
the
steps
they've
taken
just
in
the
last
week
to
improve
vaccination
rates
by
requiring
it
where
appropriate,
incentivizing
it
pushing
more
and
more
the
need
the
importance
of
this
vaccine.
And
thirdly,
I
would
say
one
of
the
important
criteria
and
factors
has
been
the
perform.
How
everybody's
behaved
in
town.
I
think
we've
had
a
lot
of
compliant
behavior
people
choosing
to
mask
people
trying
to
keep
distance
people
taking
it
very
seriously.
A
That
has
also
helped
us,
I
think,
be
in
the
top
tier
of
communities
in
the
state.
Indeed,
looking
at
the
map,
I
think
monroe
county
may
have
the
lowest,
if
not
among
them,
the
the
very
lowest
in
the
state
of
cases
per
hundred
thousand
that
we're
seeing
right
now,
that's
a
very
good
thing.
They
are
higher
than
they
were
weeks
ago.
We
have
a
hospital
that
is
under
extreme
stress
still.
A
I
guess
I
just
want
to
make
the
point
that
those
three
things,
the
the
the
rules
and
the
approaches
that
we're
taking
locally
to
make
sure
we're
keeping
safe
the
commitment
of
so
many
institutions
to
take
steps
themselves,
including
the
federal
government,
as
well
as
the
individual
choices
that
people
are
making
are
what
are
helping
us
not
be
in
a
worse
position.
So
thank
you
for
all
of
that.
Please
keep
it
up.
We'll
keep
reporting
on
how
we're
doing
we
are
not
out
of
the
woods.
The
danger
is
real
if
you're
not
vaccinated.
A
Please
talk
to
somebody
who
is
talk
to
a
health
care
professional,
don't
just
rely
on
rumors
and
and
gossip
or
or
what
you
see
online,
but
talk
to
the
experts
and
the
professionals
and
your
friends
and
family,
because
the
vaccine,
the
very
safe
vaccine,
is
what
will
keep
you
safe,
your
family,
safe
and
our
community
safe.
So
thanks
for
looking
into
that.
