A
B
Welcome
to
Bloomington
today,
I'm
Laurie
Schulte
thanks
for
joining
us.
First,
we
bring
you
the
buzz
for
the
week
of
January
21st
through
the
27th,
the
Bloomington
Chamber
of
Commerce
celebrated
its
2014
accomplishments
and
got
inspired
for
the
new
year.
Its
annual
membership
meeting
was
held
at
the
radisson
blu
in
2014.
The
chamber
exceeded
its
budget
goals
for
another
consecutive
year.
That
funding
helps
support
community
partners
like
cornerstone
and
veep.
A
keynote
speaker
inspired
the
crowd
of
business
leaders
at
the
meeting.
B
C
B
Andrews
RS
also
said
employees
need
to
know
you
care.
He
said
every
employee
has
potential
and
you
need
to
treat
them
that
way.
Zara's
also
stressed
the
importance
of
setting
goals
and
tracking
your
progress.
The
police
department
is
warning
about
a
phone
scam
or
colors
are
posing
as
city
officials
officers
say.
The
scammers
are
calling
Bloomington
residents
saying
they
failed
to
report
for
jury
duty
and
must
pay
a
fine.
The
scammers
even
threaten
the
risk
of
arrest.
B
If
people
don't
comply,
a
Hennepin
County
phone
number
is
even
given
out,
but
the
County
says
they
do
not
call
about
Miss
jury
duty.
If
you
have
been
a
victim
of
this
jury
duty,
scam
contact
the
Bloomington
Police
Department
at

349
00,
the
Bloomington
Police
Department,
wants
to
hear
from
people
who
actually
sent
money.
If
you
would
just
like
to
report
a
scam
and
did
not
suffer
financial
loss
contact,
the
Federal
Trade
Commission
at
the
number
or
website
you
see
on
your
screen.
B
Bloomington
police
investigators
were
also
hard
at
work,
making
sure
Bloomington
businesses
don't
sell
alcohol
to
minors.
Detectives
conducted
alcohol
compliance
checks
at
more
than
100
off
and
on
sale
businesses.
They
had
the
help
of
minors,
ranging
from
the
age
of
18
to
20
years
old
of
the
125
businesses
that
were
checked.
There
were
four
violations.
This
compares
to
five
violations
in
2013.
None
of
the
businesses
were
second
time
violators.
Since
2010
the
non
compliance
rate
has
been
about
4.4%.
B
However,
the
Bloomington
Police
Department
would
like
to
see
that
number
even
lower
in
which
all
businesses
are
in
compliance
to
city
employees
in
the
Parks
and
Recreation
Division
were
honored
for
their
work.
The
Minnesota
Recreation
and
Parks
Association
recognized
manager,
Randy
quali,
with
the
Clifton
EE
French
distinguished
services
award.
It
applauds
members
who
provide
long
and
outstanding
service
to
the
field.
It's
the
highest
award
given
by
the
organization
also
supervisor
and
mo

received
the
horizon
award.
It
pays
tribute
to
up-and-coming
professionals
who
have
outstanding
leadership
skills.
B
The
awards
were
presented
at
the
MRP,
a
annual
meeting
in
owatonna
congrats
to
both
of
them.
Creekside
community
center
was
packed
for
the
Wellness
Fair
on
january
twentieth.
There
were
many
exhibits
for
people
50
and
older
to
learn
how
to
exercise
both
their
mind
and
body.
Human
services
hosted
the
fair
in
collaboration
with
the
st.
Catherine
university,
dr
a
physical
therapy
program.
Many
people
in
attendance
were
impressed
with
the
students
and
the
information
they
had
to
offer.
One
woman
shared
how
the
booth
on
balance
will
help
her.
It's.
D
B
Say
physical
therapy
isn't
just
for
rehabilitation
but
for
everyone
looking
to
live
a
healthy
and
productive
lifestyle.
After
almost
four
decades,
the
leader
of
a
Bloomington
nonprofit
is
retiring.
Susan
Russell
Freeman
has
been
the
executive
director
at
veep
for
39
years.
That
will
change
this
spring
when
she
retires,
while
with
the
nonprofit
Freeman
has
grown.
The
food
shelf
from
a
small
food
bank
in
a
church
closet
to
the
largest
food
shelf
in
the
state
revenue
started
at
three
thousand
dollars
in
1976
that
has
grown
to
2.7
million
in
2013.
B
Freeman
played
a
large
part
in
opening
their
new
50,000
square-foot
facility.
You
see
here,
Freeman
says
she
leaves
beep
in
good
shape,
with
a
talented
board
of
directors,
strong
staff
and
more
than
1400
volunteers.
That
is
the
buzz
on
Bloomington
today
for
the
week
of
January
21st
through
the
27th.
Thanks
for
watching.
