B
Welcome
to
Bloomington
today
I'm
Laurie
Schulte
thanks
for
joining
us.
First,
we
bring
you
the
buzz
for
the
week
of
june
seventeenth
through
the
23rd.
The
city
received
a
reimbursement
from
fema
after
storm
damage.
Last
summer
about
350
thousand
dollars
was
given
back
to
the
city
for
cleanup
efforts
of
that
money.
More
than
110
thousand
dollars
will
pay
for
debris,
removal
and
emergency
measures.
More
than
120,000
will
pay
for
work
to
be
done
at
nine
mile
creek.
B
That
project
will
be
bid
on
this
month
and
about
one
hundred
and
fourteen
thousand
dollars
will
fund
work
done
at
overlook
drive.
Nineteen
thousand
dollars
is
being
retained
and
will
be
received
once
projects
are
complete.
Fema
reimbursement
is
dependent
on
a
county
reaching
a
certain
threshold
of
damage.
That
threshold
is
determined
using
a
formula
that
considers
several
variables.
Those
factors
include
the
county's
value,
damage,
response
and
repair
costs.
Starting
later
this
month,
a
storm
sewer
maintenance
project
will
get
underway.
B
The
city
will
be
working
at
23
sites
around
bloomington
work,
berries
from
manhole
repairs
to
pipe
replacement,
road
closures
will
take
place
at
certain
sites,
and
residents
nearby
will
be
notified
beforehand.
The
project
is
funded
by
the
storm
drainage
utility
for
a
list
of
construction
sites,
visit
city's
website
and
search
storm
sewer
project.
The
curbside
cleanup
program
saw
another
year
of
high
participation
from
residents
around
bloomington
about
sixty
percent
of
people
living
in
the
city
took
part.
This
year,
haulers
picked
up
more
than
1700
tons
of
trash,
44,
tons
of
yard
waste
and
433
appliances.
B
B
Drivers
have
been
dealing
with
a
fair
amount
of
road
construction
this
spring,
but
there's
something
else
you
have
to
look
out
for
turtles
are
on
the
move:
around
bloomington
every
spring
female
turtles
travel
from
nearby
lakes,
ponds,
wetlands
and
rivers
to
nesting
areas
oftentimes
those
nests
are
by
roads,
which
is
why
you'll
see
turtles
crossing
traffic
to
prevent
turtle
mortality.
There's
a
few
things
you
can
do.
First,
you
can
stop
and
let
the
turtle
cross
the
road
don't
make
set
of
movements,
because
that
can
make
the
turtle
change
direction
or
hide
inside
its
shell.
B
You
also
want
to
check
the
area
around
your
car
before
leading
your
parking
space
turtles
sometimes
hide
under
the
shade
of
cars.
Lastly,
if
you
have
to
move
a
turtle
move
the
animal
in
the
same
direction,
it
was
traveling
to
prevent
confusion.
Minnesota
has
9
turtle
species,
the
three
you
often
see
in
Bloomington
are
painted
snapping
and
Blandings
fair
for
all
comes
to
creekside
community
center
each
month,
but
this
month
it
also
marks
an
anniversary.
B
It's
been
one
year
since
the
local
food
program
switched
from
Saturday's
to
wednesdays,
at
creekside,
fair
for
all
purchases,
fruits,
veggies
and
meat
at
a
discounted
price,
so
consumers
can
save
up
to
forty
percent
on
groceries.
There
are
no
income
requirements
to
participate
and
the
more
people
that
come,
the
more
people
can
save
cash
cards
and
EBT
cards
are
accepted,
fair
for
all
runs
from
11
to
11
Wednesday
in
month
for
a
list
of
dates,
visit
the
city's
website
and
search
fair
for
all.
B
That
is
the
buzz
on
Bloomington
today
for
the
week
of
june,
seventeenth
through
the
23rd.
