Description
What’s buzzin’ around Bloomington? The Lieutenant Governor paid a visit to talk about the Governor’s Transportation Plan. The City was recognized as a heart safe community. Plus, South Loop stories were collected for an upcoming theatre production.
A
Welcome
to
Bloomington
today,
I'm
Laurie
Schulte
thanks
for
joining
us.
First,
we
bring
you
the
buzz
for
the
week
of
march
forth
through
the
10th.
The
lieutenant
governor,
along
with
other
city
and
state
officials,
was
in
bloomington
last
month
to
highlight
the
governor's
transportation
plan.
The
press
conference
was
at
a
strategic
location,
the
bridge
above
the
494
and
35
w
interchange
in
Bloomington.
Lieutenant
governor
Tina
Smith
says
it's
one
of
the
worst
traffic
jams
in
the
country.
She
says
the
backup
results
in
the
loss
of
time,
money
and
quality
of
life.
This.
B
A
Governor's
proposal
would
fund
the
first
phase
of
reconstruction
here,
costing
75
million
dollars.
There'd
be
a
new
turbine
interchange,
which
is
basically
a
very
large
round
about
the
design,
will
eliminate
short
merge
areas
from
competing
high
volume
ramps.
There
would
be
a
new
ramp
access
for
people,
traveling
northbound
on
35,
w
to
westbound
494
city
manager,
Jamie
verbrugge
II
was
at
the
event,
along
with
Mayor
Jean
Winstead,
who
spoke
about
the
proposal
I
just.
C
Would
like
to
commend
the
governor
for
really
putting
forth
a
plan
that
does
identify
then
and
prioritize
the
needs
of
the
state
of
Minnesota,
so
I'm
glad
to
see
that
coming
forward
and
I.
Think
what's
on
the
table.
Now
is
something
that
can
work
for
the
city
of
Bloomington,
for
the
city
of
Richfield
and
really
for
the
whole
region.
Winstead.
A
Added
american
boulevard
is
a
great
alternative,
but
doesn't
solve
the
problem
entirely.
The
project,
along
with
many
others
throughout
the
state,
will
only
be
possible
if
the
bill
passes
that
congested
interchange
isn't
the
only
project
the
city
is
looking
to
secure.
Funding
for
the
east
bush
lake
road
interchange
on
494
and
Mall
of
America
transit
station
are
also
part
of
the
city's
legislative
initiative.
Each
project
would
cost
about
20
million
dollars.
A
As
a
now,
drivers
can't
travel
westbound
on
494
from
East
Bush
lake
road
because
of
a
railroad
to
fix
that
the
city
wants
to
build
a
westbound
ramp
that
would
go
over
four
94
and
under
the
existing
Bush
Lake
Road
bridge
and
railroad,
you
can
see
the
unique
loop
design
in
this
graphic
over
at
the
Mall
of
America.
A
proposal
would
reconstruct
the
transit
station.
It's
the
most
heavily
used
station
in
the
state.
Improvements
would
provide
better
service,
with
a
presence
on
24th
Avenue
and
in
close
connection
to
the
mall
for.
D
Many
years
I
think
both
the
nation
and
the
state
have
been
under
investing
in
transportation.
It's
very
much
tied
to
our
economic
stability
and
if
you
look
at
the
amount
of
jobs
in
Bloomington
and
in
the
494
strip,
that
rivals
and
actually
is
more
than
downtown
Minneapolis
and
so
having
a
good
transportation
system
that
connects
all
those
jobs
and
commerce
to
the
region
and
to
the
rest
of
the
nation
is
very,
very
important.
These.
A
Projects
will
only
be
possible
if
legislators
approve
funding.
The
city
of
Bloomington
was
designated
a
heart
safe
community
at
the
februari
23rd
council
meeting.
That
means
Bloomington
meets
the
criteria
to
help
victims
who
suffer
cardiac
arrest.
More
than
180
Sr
in
public
places.
Around
town,
Public
Health
has
also
trained
3,500
people
in
CPR,
since
2012
the
supervisor
of
the
heart
safe
communities
program
at
allina,
health
gave
out
the
award
at
the
council
meeting,
but
first
a
cardiac
arrest,
survivor
shared
her
story.
A
E
Is
something
that
can
happen
to
anybody?
No
matter
what
age
you
are
no
matter
where
you
are
and
lucky
enough.
I
was
in
bloomington
at
the
Mall
of
America,
where
people
are
trained
in
CPR
and
AED
use,
whether
it
be
the
Bloomington
police
officers
or
the
mall
security
guards.
They
were
trained
and
they
knew
what
to
do
so.
Thank
You
Bloomington,
for
all.
You
do
to
make
sure
that
people
like
me
who
have
medical
emergencies,
that
anybody
can
have
are
saved
the.
A
Heart
Safe
Communities
program
is
a
collaborative
effort
between
Public
Health
police
fire
and
EMS
in
Bloomington,
and
edina
folks
had
a
chance
to
play
a
part
in
theater
production
out
at
the
Minnesota
Valley
Wildlife
Refuge.
These
story
swap
sessions
will
inspire
a
walking
theatre
coming
to
the
refuge
this
summer.
It's
part
of
the
creative
placemaking
initiative
meant
to
bring
art
at
a
pedestrian
level
to
the
south
loop
place-based
productions
is
putting
together
the
show
that
will
be
at
the
refuge
and
they
will
use
stories,
ideas
and
themes
collected
and
shared.
At
these
sessions.
A
F
A
Of
the
stories
told
up
this
session
was
about
how
Minnesota
got
its
name
from
the
Minnesota
River.
Other
people
shared
stories
about
the
accessibility
of
the
refuge
and
wildlife
inside
it.
The
angelika
cantante
youth
choir
had
its
read
a
doctor
scholarship
concert
last
month.
It
raises
money
for
kids
who
need
financial
assistance
to
pay
tuition.
Here's
a
short
clip
from
one
of
the
performances.
G

A
You

That
is
the
buzz
on
Bloomington
today
for
the
week
of
march,
for
through
the
10th.
If
you
would
like
to
watch
other
stories
from
the
show
go
to
this
week's
playlist,
there
you'll
find
a
story
on
the
first
creative
placemaking
project.
