Description
On this week's Around B-Town, City Manager Jamie Verbrugge shares information on a possible charter change allowing new liquor establishments like brew pubs. There are also updates on streetscape improvements at 98th and Lyndale and possible changes to the chicken ordinance.
A
Hi
I'm
Jamie
for
Bujji-
and
this
is
a
round-
beat
out
three
updates
from
the
City
Council
in
just
60
seconds.
First,
a
new
question
is
going
on
the
ballot
in
November
and,
if
it's
passed,
it
will
allow
for
new
types
of
liquor
establishments
in
Bloomington.
The
question
asks
voters
to
decide
whether
to
remove
a
section
of
the
Charter
that
makes
liquor
regulation
stricter
than
state
law.
If
the
amendment
is
approved,
the
City
Council
will
be
able
to
adopt
ordinances,
allowing
more
types
of
establishments
like
Tap,
Room's
and
cocktail
rooms.
A
Next,
the
City
Council
approves
streetscape
improvements
right
here
at
98th
in
Lindale.
This
intersection
is
one
of
the
busiest
in
town
and
it
needs
a
facelift.
The
improvements
will
include
new
trees,
larger
planting
beds,
new
street
lights
and
LED
lighting.
The
money
for
this
project
was
set
aside
a
couple
years
ago.
This
intersection
is
expected
to
see
further
renewal
in
the
near
future
and
finally,
the
council
held
a
public
hearing
on
an
ordinance
related
to
urban
chickens
and
possibly
making
it
easier
for
people
to
have
them.
A
The
proposed
changes
would
reduce
a
setback
from
50
feet
to
10
feet,
allowing
most
residential
properties
to
have
chickens.
The
limit
would
also
increase
from
4
to
6
chickens
per
household.
Instead
of
voting
on
these
changes
to
the
ordinance,
the
council
decided
to
have
a
little
bit
more
discussion
on
the
issue
more
to
come
on
this
topic
in
the
months
ahead.
Time's
up
enjoy
the
rest
of
your
week
around
beat
out.
