Description
Oasis for Youth and Mall of America celebrated the one year anniversary of their partnership. Learn more about how the two groups are working together to help stabilize young employees.
A
A
Oasis
for
youth
was
started
in
2010
by
a
group
of
community
members
who
saw
a
need
for
young
people
in
the
suburbs
who
are
experiencing
homelessness
or
housing
instability.
It
provided
opportunities
for
young
people
to
have
easy
access
to
assistance
and
support
in
connections,
so
they
don't
end
up
completely
lost
or
on
their
own.
It's.
A
The
Mall
of
America
is
a
significant
partner
in
in
our
community
right,
they're,
a
major
employer,
and
they
are
naturally
where
young
people
want
to
be
so
for
years,
I've
personally
been
been
wanting
to
be
part
of
their
fold
like
how
do
we
have
a
gate?
The
Mall
of
America
to
partner
I
was
sitting
in
my
office
and
I
get
this
call
and
Sue
and
Jeanette
are
on
speakerphone
and
they
say
hi
were
gone
from
the
Mall
of
America.
A
A
What
would
you
think
about
us
being
on
site
to
help
provide
services
to
your
employees,
because
our
clients
are
working
with
you
I
think
they
were
maybe
calling
to
see
if
they
could
do
a
food
drive
or
a
donation
drive
or
something,
and
then
maybe
weren't
expecting
that
request
right
away
and
I
didn't
think
they
would
say
yes
and
really.
The
truth
is,
the
Mall
of
America
has
been
an
outstanding
partner.
C
It
was
just
Providence,
it
worked
out
perfectly.
It
was
a
perfect
opportunity
for
them
to
connect
with
us
and
the
opportunities
that
we
have
as
well.
As
you
know,
for
Mall
of
America
to
be
able
to
fill
some
of
our
staffing.
It
wasn't
me,
you
know.
Looking
back,
you
know,
it's
been
just
a
little
over
a
year
now
and
we've
had.
C
You
know,
28
of
our
own
employees
that
have
connected
with
these
resources
and
the
need
is
even
greater
than
what
we
can
provide
and
there's
been
over
30,
more
individuals
that
have
connected
to
other
resources.
True
oasis,
a
lot
of
them
are
outside
of
the
Oasis
age
range.
So
I
think
this
is
a
huge
need
and
being
able
to
leverage
our
facility,
and
you
know
just
the
the
location
and
where
people
are
at
to
meet
them,
where
their
needs
are
for.
D
This
mom
match
is
going
to
be
a
smile
and
a
high-five
okay,
ready,
happy
welcome,
I've
been
at
the
mall
for
a
year
and
five
months,
I
work
in
gift
service
as
a
guest
service
representative,
so
I
this
guest
with
finding
things
around
the
mall
I
like
meeting
the
people,
it's
so
fun
to
be
here.
You
meet
all
kinds
of
people
and
then
I
like
working
with
my
team
is
fun.
D
Oasis
has
helped
me
sign
apartment
and
helped
me
with
some
of
my
goals
that
I
have
I
heard
about
always
possess
one
of
our
quarterly
meetings
and
then
I
had
a
discussion
with
Jess,
and
she
told
me
about
the
housing
program
for
Oasis.
We
found
my
apartment
within
two
weeks.
I
had
always
go
and
look
at
the
apartment.
For
me,
while
I
was
out
of
the
states
and
I
just
never
been
there
for
me
and
supporting
the.
B
Past
year,
I've
been
the
MLA
case
manager
and
than
our
primary
person
out
at
the
mall
working
with
with
young
people,
I
think
it's
exceeded
my
expectations,
you
know
going
into
it.
We
didn't
know
exactly
what
to
expect.
We
knew
it
was
a
brilliant
idea
and
felt
confident
that
we
were
going
to
be
able
to
do
good
work.
B
The
opportunities
that
have
been
available
to
connect
with
people
and
the
ability
to
provide
services
meet
with
people
who
haven't
really
connected
to
any
resources
before
and
have
that
opportunity
to
help
people
helping
opportunities
and
get
insured
and
avoid
housing
crisis,
and
just
those
relationships
have
been
really
meaningful.
If
someone
has
supports
in
place
outside
of
work,
whether
that's
housing
or
they
know
they
have
someone,
they
can
talk
to
their
performance.
At
work
is
going
to
be,
is
going
to
be
better
and
it's
going
to
be
more
consistent.
People.
C
Should
be
able
to
just
focus
on
the
work
and
you
know
being
able
to
go
about
their
daily
lives
without
stressing
about
how
am
I
going
to
get
to
work
the
next
day,
let
alone
what
am
I
going
to
eat
tonight
or
where
am
I
going
to
stay,
to
not
have
a
safe
place
to
go.
Those
are
things
that
are
just
a
complete
distraction
and
you
know
shouldn't
be
part
of
everyday
stress.
If
we
can
remove
those
barriers,
then
that
gives
them
more
opportunity
to
grow
as
individuals
working.
B
Within
people,
it's
all
about
like
celebrating
how
great
they
are,
the
young
people
that
we
are
connecting
with
are
already
great,
like
they're,
doing,
wonderful
things,
and
they
are
capable
people.
They
have
amazing
strengths,
and
so
our
approach
and
next
thing
with
them
and
working
with
them
is
really
building
on
those
yeses.
D
B
The
relationships
that
I
developed
with
with
people
stay
with
me
for
a
really
long
time
and
I
think
that's
a
critical
piece
of
doing
good
youth
work
and
ensuring
that
this
partnership
is
successful
is
making
sure
that
whoever's
in
that
position
can
develop
early
good
relationships.
Oftentimes
people
don't
feel
comfortable
reaching
out
for
help.
So
having
someone
that
people
can
feel
safe
talking
to
and
can
rely
on
and
feel
like
you
got
their
back.
