A
B
Welcome
to
bloomington
today,
I'm
kailyn
cockrell
thanks
for
joining
us
now,
it's
time
to
bring
you
the
buzz
on
Bloomington
today
for
the
week
of
December
nineteenth
through
the
25th,
an
important
transportation
connection
from
the
south
metro
to
Bloomington
was
recently
unveiled.
The
use
of
alternative
transportation
is
becoming
a
more
popular
means
of
travel
and,
in
turn
becoming
more
convenient.
It
was
evident
when
the
Metropolitan
Council
in
coordination
with
Dakota
County
and
the
Minnesota
Valley
Transit
Authority
unveiled
plans
for
the
new
metro
system
in
early
December
coming
in
the
spring
of
2013.
B
The
red
line
will
link
apple
valley,
transit
station
to
the
mall
of
america,
using
bus
only
shoulders
and
minimal
stops
between
the
two
stations.
The
red
line
is
the
second
corridor
to
be
completed
in
the
metro
transit
way
system,
the
first
being
the
Metro
blue
line,
Hiawatha
LRT,
according
to
a
statement
released
by
the
Metropolitan
Council
connecting
transit,
jobs,
housing
and
community
amenities
is
a
key
goal
of
the
overall
vision
for
the
Twin
Cities
region.
B
Once
the
red
line
corridor
is
complete,
someone
in
the
South
Metro
could
travel
all
the
way
to
Minneapolis
using
mass
transit.
One
bloomington
non-profit
organization,
dedicated
to
financially
supporting
crime
prevention
initiatives
in
our
community
recently
gave
out
thousands
of
dollars
in
grants.
On
november,
seventh,
the
bloomington
crime
prevention
association
presented
a
total
of
120
thousand
dollars
to
various
community
organizations.
The
funds
are
made
possible
by
the
annual
bookham
fundraiser,
which
raised
more
than
140
thousand
dollars
this
year.
This.

B
D
As
a
reminder,
after
school
activities
are
really
important
for
kids,
not
only
a
school,
a
safe
place
for
them
to
be,
but
the
positive
benefits
of
students
being
involved
with
activities
are
great,
from
keeping
them
out
of
trouble
away
from
drugs
away
from
alcohol
to
also
helping
them
increase.
Their
test.
Scores
attendance
at
school
and
just
feeling
a
sense
of
pride
other
grant.
B
Recipients
included
cornerstone
advocacy
services,
bloomington
tree
house,
along
with
city
parks
and
recreations
playground,
partnership
program,
just
to
name
a
few.
Drivers
in
bloomington
might
have
taken
notice
to
hennepin
county
traffic
signal
crews
working
around
the
city.
The
past
few
months,
hennepin
county
owns
54
of
the
145
signals
in
bloomington
and
by
February.
All
54
of
those
traffic
lights
will
be
outfitted
with
new
low
powered
LED
modules.
B
Bloomington
traffic
maintenance
began
converting
the
71
city-owned
signals
to
leds
in
2001
and
is
now
about
ninety-eight
percent.
Complete
LED
lights
are
more
visible
to
motorists
and
they
last
much
longer
than
incandescent
bulbs.
This
will
result
in
decreased
maintenance
costs
and
significant
energy
savings.
Is
they
only
use
about
one
sixth
of
the
energy
and
incandescent
bulb
uses,
and
that
is
the
buzz
on
Bloomington
today
for
the
week
of
December
nineteenth
through
the
25th
thanks
for
joining
us.
