Description
On this week's The Buzz on Bloomington Today we take a look at the newest component now complete on the I-494/169 Interchange Project. We'll also take a look at the continued spread of Emerald Ash Borer and let residents know how they can help keep the insect from moving.
A
Welcome
to
Bloomington
today,
I'm
kailyn
real
thanks
for
joining
us
now,
it's
time
to
catch
up
on
city
news
with
the
buzz
on
Bloomington
today
for
the
week
of
August,
twenty-eighth
through
September.
Fourth,
if
you've
been
traveling
in
Bloomington
recently,
odds
are
you've
encountered,
one
of
min
dots,
mini
closures
along
the
I
494
corridor.
This
is
a
part
of
the
improvement
project
happening
right
now
and
to
keep
you
informed
about
which
exits
and
ramps
are
open
and
which
are
closed
until
when
MnDOT
has
created
a
graphic
to
illustrate
this.
A
The
ramp
from
southbound
35,
w
to
westbound
494
and
the
on
and
off
ramps
from
494
at
Penn
Avenue
will
remain
closed
until
mid-september.
The
following
ramps
will
remain
closed
until
early
November,
portland
avenue
to
494
west
for
94
west
to
nicollet
avenue
and
the
loop
from
northbound
france
avenue
to
westbound
I
494.
The
new
Xerxes
Avenue
Bridge
will
be
built
and
opened
sometime
in
spring
or
summer
of
2013.
A
These
ramp
closures
are
needed
to
construct
the
auxiliary
Lane
that
will
extend
between
thirty
fourth
Avenue
and
highway
100.
The
Minnesota
Department
of
Transportation
expects
this
project
to
improve
traffic
flow,
reduce
maintenance
needs
that
will
ultimately
match
future
development
goals
for
the
area.
Just
keep
in
mind.
All
these
reopening
dates
are
estimates,
weather
or
other
conditions
could
slightly
alter.
Construction
schedules
will
speak
more
in
depth
with
MnDOT
public
affairs
personnel
on
a
future
episode
of
Bloomington
today
to
find
out
more
about
the
accelerated
project
along
the
I
494
corridor.
A
Another
milestone
recently
finalized
on
the
169
I
494
reconstruction
project
as
it
nears
its
late
fall
completion
deadline.
The
washington
avenue
bridge
remains
closed
to
motorists,
but
in
mid-august
the
roundabout
at
the
bridges
south
side
open
to
motorists,
MnDOT
representatives
want
to
remind
residents
how
to
maneuver
around
about
when
entering
yield
to
all
vehicles.
Already
in
the
roundabout,
when
safe
merged
into
your
appropriate
lane,
always
move
counterclockwise
through
the
roundabout.
A
When
exiting
the
circle
signal,
your
turn
and
look
for
any
pedestrians
or
bicyclists
in
the
crosswalk
crews
are
continuing
to
work
on
the
reconstruction
of
the
southbound
lane
of
169
the
frontage
road
systems
around
the
interchange
and
work
on
the
fly
over
bridges
and
ramps.
The
project
is
slated
for
completion
sometime
in
November
of
this
year,
emerald
ash
borer
has
been
found
on
bloomington's
doorstep
on
August
fifteenth,
the
Minnesota
Department
of
Agriculture
found
a
new
infestation
of
EAB
at
Fort.
Snelling
golf
course,
which
is
along
the
northern
border
of
Bloomington.
A
A
The
insect
does
little
damage
as
an
adult,
however,
in
its
larvae
stage,
they're
destructive
to
ash
trees,
the
insect
burrows
beneath
the
bark
and
essentially
drains
the
tree
of
needed
nutrients,
ultimately
killing
it.
Hennepin
and
ramsey
counties
are
under
a
quarantine
that
prohibits
the
movement
of
items
like
firewood
ash,
trees,
ash
chips
or
tree
bark
and
any
ash
limbs
or
logs.
The
insects
are
not
capable
of
traveling
long
distances
without
human
assistance.
So
do
your
part
to
help
stop
this
beetle

taking

seems
like
a
great
way

visit
