Description
What’s buzzin’ in Bloomington? The old Thunderbird hotel is being bought by the Port Authority and will be taken down. May is Older Americans Month and several events are taking place to celebrate. Plus, Kite Day is coming up on May 7!
A
Welcome
to
Bloomington
today,
I'm
Laurie
Schulte
thanks
for
joining
us.
First,
we
bring
you
the
buzz
for
the
week
at
April,
27th
tomb,
a
third
and
we're
starting
off
in
front
of
the
Ramada,
better
known
to
many
as
the
old
Thunderbird
hotel.
This
property
is
being
purchased
by
the
Port
Authority
and
will
be
redeveloped
to
better
fit
south
loop
city
staff,
say
the
sale
will
close
mid-may
and
the
hotel
will
be
demolished
in
September.
The
city
has
an
agreement
with
the
Mall
of
America
to
work
together
on
redeveloping
the
site.
A
B
If
you
go
online
and
look
about
things
that
happened
at
the
Thunderbird
and
you
know,
in
addition
to
all
that
and
there's
lots
of
proms
and
other
conventions
that
happened
there
and
it
was
a
big
hotel
for
a
long
time,
and
it
also
had
a
very
unique
theme
in
that
the
owner,
prior
to
the
last
two
owners,
actually
had
a
really
extensive
Native
American
artifact
collection.

Part
of
south
loop
and
south
loop
generally
I
think
we'll
see
a
lot
of
change
over
the
next
five
or
ten
years,
and
we've
been
planning
for
that
for
a
long
time,
but
with
the
economy
how
it
is
and
the
development
cycles
that
are
currently
happening.
I
think
there
will
be
a
lot
of
change
in
south
loop
while.
A
Longevity
is
being
celebrated
all
month,
long
at
Creekside
community
center,
because
may
is
older
Americans
month.
This
designation
is
meant
to
celebrate
older
adults
and
the
contributions
they
make
in
our
community
here
at
creekside.
There
are
many
programs
specific
for
people
50
and
older,
but
in
May
there
is
even
more
going
on
here
and
throughout
Bloomington.
A
There
will
be
an
event
sharing
tips
on
arthritis
and
nutrition
management,
a
spring
planting
and
birdhouse
do-it-yourself
workshop
a
bingo
and
birthday
bash,
a
class
where
you
can
make
a

a
flower
arrangement
and
an
ice
cream.

Finally,
if

you
might
want
to
head
here
to
Valley

where
the
sky
will
be
filled
with
color.
That's
because
kite

is
taking
place,
a
free
event
for
people
of
all
ages.
That
includes
live,
entertainment
and
other
activities.
