Description
The City’s new organics drop-off program starts April 21. For more info, visit blm.mn/organics.
A
Did
you
know
some
of
your
trash
could
be
turned
into
treasure?
The
city's
new
free,
organics
drop-off
program
will
take
your
food
scraps
and
non
recyclable
paper
items
and
create
nutrient-rich
soil.
Now,
that's
what
I
call
going
green
to
help?
Keep
it
green,
Wow
saving
green.
Not
only
does
composting
help
plants
grow,
it
could
save
you
money
on
trash
services.
If
you
reduce
your
cart
size
about
one-third
of
what
is
being
thrown
in
the
trash
can
be
composted.
Turning
organics
into
compost
is
also
better
for
the
environment
than
burying
or
burning
it.
A
That's
because
it
reduces
greenhouse
gases
at
landfills
and
increases
energy
efficiency
at
garbage
incinerators.
So
how
do
I
get
started?
First,
sign
up
online
at
BLM,
MN,
slash,
organics
you'll,
get
a
welcome
kit,
complete
with
compostable
bags,
and
more
details
on
how
to
recycle
organics
after
that
set
up
your
home
for
success.
Put
an
organics
recycling
container
in
a
convenient
location
in
your
home
and
line
it
with
a
certified
compostable
bag.
Then
fill
it
up
with
all
that,
compostable
goodness
all
food
counts
from
fruits
to
veggies
to
me
and
dairy
products.
A
You
can
also
compost
food
soiled
paper
like
pizza
boxes,
napkins,
paper,
towels
and
egg
cartons.
Don't
forget
about
things
like
coffee
grounds,
houseplants
tea
bags
and
toothpicks
too.
Once
your
compost
bin
is
full
drop
it
off
at
one
of
three
locations.
There
are
two
city
sites:
the
Ivy
Park
and
West
Bush
Lake
Park,
or
you
can
visit
the
Hennepin
County
drop
off
site
for
details
on
locations
and
hours
head
to
BLM
MN,
slash
organics,
let
the
trash
to
treasure
transformation,
begin
April,
21st,.
