Description
Council Minute: Mayor Tim Busse reviews the March 2 City Council Meeting. The brief recap includes highlights about watershed management, the 2020 Census and Bloomington’s Strategic Plan.
A
Hello,
everyone,
Mayor
Tim
Boise
here
with
your
council
minute,
our
recap
of
the
council
meeting
from
Monday
March,
2nd
2020.
We
had
a
number
of
items
on
the
agenda.
Last
night,
one
happened
even
before
the
meeting
started.
We
had
our
annual
meeting
with
the
Richfield
Bloomington
water
management
organization.
You
might
not
even
know
it
exists.
It's
an
organization
that
was
formed
back
in
the
1980s
to
protect
the
bodies
of
water
in
Richfield
and
Bloomington.
In
this
particular
watershed,
the
two
main
bodies
of
water
would
be
wood,
Lake
and
Smith.
A
Park
Lake
and
the
group
gets
together
once
a
year
works
throughout
the
year
to
protect
those
water
bodies
and
in
particular
this
year
in
2020,
they're
gonna
be
working
very
closely
with
Hennepin
County,
to
identify
and
to
limit
the
amount
of
salt
that
goes
into
the
bodies
of
water
in
both
Richfield
in
Bloomington.
2020
is
a
census
here
and
very
soon,
every
household
in
Bloomington
will
receive
from
the
federal
government
a
US
census,
and
we
really
need
you
to
fill
it
out
every
10
years.
A
The
United
States
does
a
census
and
it
affects
everything
from
number
of
seats
in
Congress
to
funding
for
things
like
specifically
here
in
Bloomington,
our
HRA,
our
police
and
our
fire
school
district
funding
is
also
affected
by
the
census.
So
last
night
the
City
Council
passed
a
resolution
that
the
school
board
will
also
be
passing
at
their
next
meeting
in
support
of
getting
everybody
in
Bloomington
involved
in
the
census
census.
2020,
you
count.
We
really
need
you
to
be
counted.
A
The
City
Council
amended
its
five-year
strategic
plan
to
include
engagement
and
transparency
as
specific
pillars
of
that
five-year
strategic
plan.
Now
that's
important
because
we
plan
to
include
that
in
everything
that
we
do
as
we
look
forward
in
2020.
There
are
two
specific
initiatives
where
that's
definitely
going
to
come
into
play.
A
The
first
is
a
long-range
community-based,
community-wide
visioning
process
trying
to
decide
exactly
what
we
want
the
community
of
Bloomington
to
be
it's
going
to
include
elected
officials,
community
leaders,
members
of
the
public,
a
wide
variety
of
people
to
put
together
a
core
team
to
figure
out
exactly
what
we
want
Bloomington
to
look
like
in
the
future.
It's
an
exciting
opportunity
and
it's
coming
up
and
there
will
be
more
information
available.
The
second
initiative
is
called
the
better
government
demonstration
project.
Bloomington
is
going
to
take
part
in
this.
A
It's
a
long
term,
look
at
how
Bloomington
does
its
business
as
a
city,
and
this
includes
using
online
tools
to
improve
transparency
in
financial
reporting
and
transparency
in
government
and
just
how
we
go
about
our
business
as
a
city
government.
It's
an
exciting
opportunity
really
looking
forward
to
it.
There
will
be
more
information
coming
forward
on
that
very
soon.
That's
your
council
minute
recapping,
our
meeting
on
Monday
March,
2nd
2020
thanks
so
much
for
watching
have
a
great
day.
