Hello bloomington, I'm mayor tim busse, and this is the council minute for the week of.

A

October 25th, at our council meeting this week we continued our discussion about city facilities.

A

And we moved forward on two very important facilities that will shape the future.

A

Of bloomington, first, a bit of quick background. Most of the facilities in the city of bloomington.

A

Were built in either the 1960s or the 1970s, you've heard me talk about this before.

A

That puts the age of most of those facilities at almost 60 years old.

A

And when a building gets to that age, it either needs a lot of rework renovation or replacement.

A

And that's what we're faced with now in the city of bloomington, our facilities have changed over.

A

The past few years and our needs of our facilities have changed over many years. City, council and city.

A

Staff have worked together to develop a plan to try and address this facility need in the city.

A

Of bloomington, one of the first things we did talk about was fire station number four. This is.

A

The second of our five fire station replacement projects. This week we approved the site plan and.

A

Development plan the site plan will be right here on the existing site of fire station number. Four.

A

Which is just to the south of 84th street and just to the west of france, avenue construction should.

A

Begin sometime next year, with completion in 2023 stay tuned. Look forward to cutting the ribbon with.

A

Everyone and celebrating that the city council also took action to purchase an industrial area.

A

On 96th street, just to the north of our current public works facility, we'll use that site for.

A

A new fleet maintenance facility for the city of bloomington, the current fleet, maintenance.

A

Facility that the city is in it was built in 1966. The city has been in there since 1985.

A

And we've done a few studies on it and the studies keep telling us. The current facility is too small.

A

It's inefficient and it poses a number of safety concerns that we just can't overlook.

A

We purchased the new site for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was that the fact that it's.

A

For sale, it's also the right size that we need and it's adjacent to our current public works facility.

A

Just because we bought the site doesn't mean this is a done deal. We still have to make the decision.

A

On the fleet maintenance facility and be on the lookout for that, we'll have more information.

A

Coming soon, one of the most important things we do as a city is to keep you the residents of.

A

Bloomington informed to keep you up to date as to what's going on and what's happening in the city.

A

Of bloomington, we are committed to communicating and not just communicating but communicating.

A

Really really well recently, we learned that the city of bloomington communications division.

A

Received four awards in a national competition for communications in this year's city, county.

A

Communications and marketing association award competition bloomington received a first place.

A

Savvy award for the 2021 state of the city a year like no other, we took a second place award for our.

A

2020 corporate report to the community and for the mascot bloomington social media campaign.

A

And we took a third place award of excellence for the bloomington briefing.

A

Folks, those are national awards, out of more than 800 entries submitted by cities and counties from.

A

Across the united states of america, the city of bloomington also did really well at the state.

A

Level bloomington received five awards from the minnesota association of government communicators.

A

Annual northern lights awards topping the list for bloomington. Was the video buckthorn bust? How to.

Which received a first place, northern lights award and a best in show nomination.

The bloomington briefing, which has won a ton of awards over the years, was awarded second.

Place in the publications category third place, honors went to the mascot bloomington.
